1 Minor League Report August 21, 2018 Organizational Record: (.485) SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE RAILRIDERS REC.: PLACE: 2nd GB: -9.0 TRIPLE-A INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE The RailRiders went 4-3 last week. Scranton batters combined to hit.312 (62-for-199) with 19 extra-base hits (11 doubles, 1 triple, 7HR) in 7G last week. Nestor Cortes Jr. earned the win on 8/15 vs. Indianapolis with 7.0IP (4H, 1ER, 1BB, 3K, 1HR) improved to 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA (19.1IP, 16H, 4ER, 5BB/1IBB, 15K, 2HR, 1HP) over his last three starts. RHP Michael King improved to 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA (20.2IP, 4ER) in three starts at Triple-A this season after his complete game win on 8/18-G1 vs. Norfolk (7.0IP, 7H, 1ER, 0BB, 4K, 1HR) has gone at least 6.0IP in each of his starts and has not allowed more than 2R has limited opponents to a.087 BA (2-for-23) with 6K with runners on base at Triple-A. C Wilkin Castillo has hit safely in his last nine games, batting.448 (13-for-29) with 4R, 2 doubles and 5RBI over the span (since 7/29). INF Luke Voit reached base safely in all 7G last week, hitting.364/.440/.591 (8-for-22) with 2R, 2 doubles, 1HR, 3RBI and 3BB. INF Gio Urshela has hit safely in his last five games and in 11-of-12, batting.349 (15-for-43) with 8R, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1HR, 5RBI and 1BB over the longer span has seen time at 2B (1G), 3B (11G) and SS (3G). INF Rey Navarro tied a season high with 4H (second time, also on 6/30 vs. Pawtucket) on 8/19 vs. Norfolk, going 4-for-5 with 2R, 1HR and 2RBI. TRENTON THUNDER REC.: PLACE: 2nd GB: -2.5 DOUBLE-A EASTERN LEAGUE Trenton went 3-5 in their last eight games won a 4G series vs. New Hampshire (3-1) after losing five straight games. RHP Jonathan Loaisiga returned from his D.L. stint to start on 8/17 vs. New Hampshire (1.1IP, 1H, 1ER, 2BB, 2K, 1HP) was his first appearance since pitching with the Yankees on 7/2 vs. Atlanta. RHP Garrett Whitlock allowed 2R/1ER on 7H across 5.2IP (2BB, 4K) on 8/18 vs. New Hampshire in his first start after being promoted from Single-A Tampa has allowed 2ER-or-fewer in all but three of his 20GS this season is a combined 8-5 with a 1.84 ERA (117.2IP, 91H, 24ER, 119K, 36BB, 9HP) this season between Single-A Charleston, Single-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton. Prospect Profile INF Dermis Garcia Last week with Single-A Charleston in 6G:.364/.481/.636 (8-for-22) 2R, 3 doubles, 1HR, 6RBI, 5BB Hit.364/.481/.636 (8-for-22) with 2R, 3 doubles, 1HR, 6RBI and 5BB in six games last week recorded two multi-hit efforts. Tied a career high with 3RBI on 8/15 at Delmarva (2-for-4, 1R, 1 double, 1HR). Has hit safely in each of his last eight games, batting.355/.444/.581 (11-for-31) with 2R, 4 doubles, 1HR, 10RBI and 5BB over the span (since 8/10). Has seen time at first base (33G), third base (20G) and designated hitter (20G) this season in 20G at DH, is hitting.315/.398/.589 (23-for-73) with 10R, 5 doubles, 5HR, 13RBI and 10BB. In 2017, with Rookie-level Pulaski and Single-A Charleston, combined to hit.249/.357/.542 (56-for-225) with 36R, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 17HR, 45RBI and 38BB in 63 games. The 20-year-old from Santo Domingo Centro, Dominician Republic, was ranked by MLB.com as the top interantional prospect for the 2014 signing period was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on 7/2/14. Dermis Garcia has always shown the ability to hit for tremendous power, but he s now starting to show that he s more than just a one dimensional player. Our coaches and coordinators have done a tremendous job in teaching Dermis how to use the whole field, work deep counts and is more than just an all or nothing power hitter at this point in his career. On defense, Dermis has an easy plus arm from 3B and we ve decided to utilize that tool and have him throwing bullpens and sides off the mound during early work. He shows big promise on both sides of the ball, and the thought is to have him pitch and hit with the potential to be a two way player in the future. OF Estevan Florial is riding a five-game hitting streak and has hit.450 (9-for-20) with 4R, 1 double, 1HR, 3RBI and 4BB over that stretch has at least two hits in six of his last eight games played. INF Hoy Jun Park had multi-hit games in four-of-seven games this week, batting.357 (10-for-28) with 4R, 1RBI and 1BB has a.440 OBP when leading off an inning this season (22-for-78; 19BB). RHP Hobie Harris tallied two saves in three appearances (4.2IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 5K) has a 0.87 ERA over his last six appearances dating back to 8/3 (10.1IP, 6H, 1ER, 4BB, 12K, 1HR). CHARLESTON RIVERDOGS 2H REC.: PLACE: 4th GB: -9.0 SINGLE-A SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE Charleston went 3-4 over their last seven games RHP Janson Junk, RHP Austin DeCarr and RHP Daniel Alvarez combined to throw the first nine-inning no-hitter for Charleston since 1994 on 8/16 at Delmarva. RHP Janson Junk was named SAL Pitcher of the Week for 8/13-19 threw 5.0 hitless innings (1R/0ER, 1BB, 6K, 2HP) on 8/16 at Delmarva to improve to 6-4 this season has allowed 1R-or-fewer in four of his last six starts since 7/14 and seven of his last 11 starts since 5/29. SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Staten Island went 5-1 over their last six games finish a 3G series vs. Lowell on 8/22 before hitting the road for 3G at Aberdeen. INF Kyle Gray reached safely in his last six games, batting.211/.360/.579 (4-for-19) with 6R, 1 double, 2HR, 6RBI, 5BB and 1SB.
