10 MLB.com Reynolds notches career-high five hits for San Jose William Boor Bryan Reynolds came up just short of a cycle, but he still put together quite a day at the plate as Class A Advanced San Jose topped Modesto, The Giants' No. 3 prospect collected a career-high five hits as he finished 5-for-6 with four RBIs and a run scored. "I didn't hit it where they were standing this time," Reynolds told MiLB.com. "I've been doing that a lot recently. I tried to make an adjustment and hit it where they aren't standing." Box score Reynolds, a second-round pick from the 2016 Draft, gave the Giants an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the first. The 22-year-old singled again in the third and drove in three with a triple that highlighted a five-run fourth. He then doubled in the sixth, and with two more chances to complete the cycle, Reynolds singled in the eighth and grounded out in the ninth. "It feels great. I've been struggling a bit as of recently and it feels nice to hit it somewhere nobody's at," Reynolds said. "We only did BP in the cage before the game. I was just trying to get loose. It wasn't like I had an epiphany before the game. It was just one of those days that happens." After hitting.313 in 56 games across two levels last season, Reynolds is batting.281 through 37 games in his first stint with San Jose. Reynolds got off to a bit of a slow start, hitting.253 in 21 games games during April, but he has picked it up lately by going 13-for-30 (.433) over his past seven games and is batting.318 in the month of May.

11 Stratton outdueled in Sunday matinee Despite bounce-back start by Stratton, River Cats bats fall flat against Sounds Sacramento River Cats (16-26) starter Chris Stratton took the mound Sunday afternoon at Raley Field looking to bounce back after a rough last outing. The former first-round pick did just that, throwing his first quality start of the year. Unfortunately, Nashville Sounds (20-20) starter Jharel Cotton was even better and the River Cats fell 4-0 Sunday. Stratton looked great all afternoon other than a brief hiccup in the third. With two outs in the inning, Stratton gave up a walk followed by back-to-back hits to give Nashville two runs. He settled in after that, allowing just one more run in the seventh frame before turning things over to the bullpen. Nashville's Cotton outdueled Stratton though, shutting out the River Cats over seven innings. He walked one and struck out nine in the outing while Sacramento managed just three hits against him, one of them a double by Tim Federowicz. Tomorrow's finale between the River Cats and Sounds will features Dan Slania (0-5, 8.65) against RHP Daniel Gossett (1-2, 4.31). Postgame Notes Stratton: Chris Stratton had his first quality start of the season allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks over 6.1 innings struck out five threw 100 pitches (66 strikes) in the outing, the most by a River Cats starter this season. Day Baseball: The River Cats are now 6-5 in day games this season, including 4-3 at home. Quiet Bats: Sacramento managed fewer than four hits for the fifth time this season were shutout for the fourth time this year, including the second in this series against Nashville. Gillaspie: Conor Gillaspie played six innings at first base and went 0-for-3 at the plate is 2-for-10 in three games with Sacramento has logged 13 innings at third base and six at first. Hill: Aaron Hill went 1-for-3 while playing seven innings at second base in two games with Sacramento, is 2-for-5 since starting his rehab with San Jose, is hitting.307 (4- for-13) in five games.

12 Senators Snub Squirrels In Series Finale Richmond Grabs Nine Hits, Only One Run RVA - The Flying Squirrels struggles in day contests continued on Sunday afternoon as Richmond (17-24) dropped the series finale to the Harrisburg Senators (18-23) 8-1 at The Diamond. Harrisburg pulled away with a four-run seventh inning and starting pitcher Jaron Long limited the Squirrels to only one run on nine hits. The loss pushed Richmond to just 2-10 in contests played during the day. The Squirrels continue the current homestand on Monday night with a Bark in the Park celebration at 6:35 p.m. Jordan Johnson took the mound for Richmond in the rubber match of the series. Johnson faced the minimum in the first inning, throwing 14 pitches to start off the contest. Stephen Perez singled with one out in the inning and Johnson picked him off of first to end it. The Senators took advantage of a Johnson defensive miscue to grab an early 2-0 lead. With runners on second and third, Yadiel Hernandez tapped a ball back to the mound. Johnson moved to the third base side to field it, grabbed the ball with his bare hand and threw it down the first base line. The error scored Drew Ward and allowed Khayyan Norfork to bring in a second run with a sacrifice fly. Richmond put up a run in the third inning, after having runners on base in the first two frames. Slade Heathcott drilled an inning-opening double and came around to score on a twoout single off the bat of Chris Shaw. Shaw's 28th RBI of the season made it a 2-1 contest. Johnson allowed another run, this time earned, in the top of the fourth inning. Spencer Kieboom doubled to right center field and Yadiel Hernandez advanced him to third on a bunt base hit. Norfork thengrounded into a double play, scoring Kieboom from third for a 3-1 Harrisburg lead. Johnson finished the inning with a ground ball and used 63pitches over the first three frames. Long pitched though the middle innings and dodged trouble at every turn. Richmond put at least one runner on base in all seven innings of Long's innings. The righty allowed just the one run on nine hits to earn the win The Senators pulled away in the seventh inning and forced Johnson from the game. Three consecutive one-out hits ended the day for Johnson. Rodolfo Martinez then entered to try and stem the tide, but allowed all three inherited runners to score. Drew Ward and Isaac Ballou doubled toscore another run for a 7-1 lead. Luis Pino tossed the final two innings for Richmond and allowed the eighth and final run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Flying Squirrels individual tickets, mini plans and group packages are on sale by contacting the Richmond box office at FUNN or online at Giants Outfield Trio Ignites 12-8 Comeback Win Reynolds, Quinn and Brusa combine to go 10-for-14 with two homers and nine RBI's MODESTO, CA -- Bryan Reynolds knocked out five hits, three San Jose players homered and the Giants overcame an early five-run deficit in a 12-8 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Sunday afternoon at John Thurman Field. San Jose (17-27) rallied from 6-1 down scoring 11 straight runs in the contest to pick-up their first win of the series. Reynolds (5-for-6, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI), who finished a home run shy of the cycle, matched a San Jose Giants single-game record with his five hits. Reynolds also drove in four runs. Heath Quinn (3- for-3, HR, 2 RBI) added three hits, including a key go-ahead home run while reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. Gio Brusa (2-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) and Jose Vizcaino Jr. (1-for-4, HR, RBI) also homered for the Giants. The outfield trio of Reynolds (CF), Quinn (RF) and Brusa (LF) combined to go 10-for-14 with five runs scored and nine RBI's. San Jose trailed 6-1 after two innings on Sunday before using a five-run top of the fourth to tie the game. Quinn started the frame with a single before Brusa stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to straightaway center. The homer, Brusa's sixth of the season, brought the Giants to within 6-3. Matt Pare was then hit by a pitch before taking second on a wild pitch. A one-out passed ball moved Pare to third before Vizcaino, Jr. drew a walk. Jalen Miller was up next and he singled sharply up the middle to plate Pare with the third run of the inning. Following a Ryan Howard fly out, Reynolds belted a triple to deep left center bringing home both Vizcaino Jr. and Miller to tie the game 6-6. San Jose sent all nine batters to the plate during their five-run top of the fourth. Quinn then gave the Giants a 7-6 lead when he drove the first pitch of the top of the fifth over fence in center for a solo homer. The home run was Quinn's second this year with San Jose. Meanwhile, Giants starter Jake McCasland settled down after early struggles to finish his outing strong. McCasland allowed six runs on eight hits over the first two innings before tossing three straight scoreless frames. The right-hander worked back-to-back innings in the fourth and fifth and retired seven Nuts batters in a row to end his start. With the score still 7-6, Yordy Cabrera entered from the bullpen to begin the bottom of the sixth and pitched around a two-out single to keep San Jose ahead. The Giants then extended their lead with a run in the top of the seventh as Quinn drew a leadoff walk before a two-out RBI double into the left center gap from Jonah Arenado made the score 8-6.

14 In the bottom of the seventh, Cabrera (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO) issued a one-out walk to Eric Filia before Ricky Eusebio doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third. Cabrera though settled down to strikeout Joe DeCarlo before Daniel Torres grounded out to end the inning with the potential tying runs stranded in scoring position. San Jose kept the pressure on with three more runs in the top of the eighth to stretch their lead to The first six batters of the inning reached base safely for the Giants. A single from Miller started the rally before Howard walked. Reynolds then grounded an RBI single into left - his fifth hit of the afternoon. Following a walk to Aramis Garcia which loaded the bases, Quinn and Brusa delivered back-to-back RBI singles for an 11-6 cushion. Vizcaino Jr. then completed the San Jose scoring for the day with an opposite field solo homer to right in the top of the ninth. The homer, Vizcaino's second of the season, extended the lead to Caleb Simpson (2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO) pitched the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings for the Giants to close out the victory. DeCarlo smacked a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Nuts within 12-8, but Simpson quickly retired the next batter, Torres, to end the game. McCasland (1-4) earned his first win of the season despite allowing six runs (all earned) on 10 hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out two. Jose Santiago (0-1) was saddled with the loss out of the Modesto bullpen. Santiago was charged with four runs (all earned) in two innings of work. Notes * The Nuts have still won two out of the first three games of the home-and-home series. Modesto won on Friday and Saturday at Municipal Stadium before San Jose's Sunday victory at John Thurman Field. * The Giants matched their largest deficit overcome in a win this season. San Jose also rallied from five runs down to defeat the Nuts on May 2 at Muni (11-7 win). * Both teams finished with 15 hits on Sunday. The Giants were 7-for-16 (.438 AVG) with runners in scoring position. * San Jose improved to on the road this season (6-16 at home) * Reynolds became the 36th player in the 30-year history of the San Jose Giants to record five hits in a game. There has never been a six-hit game in team history. Reynolds grounded out to third base in the top of the ninth on Sunday in his bid for a sixth hit. * Brusa's six home runs this season is tied for the team lead (Garcia, Dillon Dobson). He has two home runs in his last three games. * Quinn is batting.364 (8-for-22) with two home runs in six games with the Giants this season. * Sunday marked the beginning of a seven-game road trip for San Jose. * The Giants are now tied with Rancho Cucamonga for the league lead in home runs (40 HR). * Pitcher Caleb Smith was activated off the disabled list before the game on Sunday. Pitcher Heath Slatton was placed on the 7-day DL.
