SoCal Road Trip The Giants have posted a 3-2 record thus far during their season-opening Southern California road trip. San Jose won three out of four games at Inland Empire to begin the trip before suffering a loss to Lancaster in the opener of the current series last night. Yesterday s defeat snapped the Giants three-game winning streak. At The Plate San Jose s 42 runs scored through five games this season (8.4 per game) lead the California League. The Giants have scored at least seven runs in four consecutive games and plated 10 or more runs twice already this year. Individually, four San Jose hitters rank among the top ten in the league in batting average: Bryan Reynolds (3rd,.421), Aramis Garcia (4th,.409), Michael Bernal (5th,.400) and Jalen Miller (10th,.381). LAST GAME April R H E San Jose Lancaster x WP: Schlitter (1-0) LP: Krook (0-1) S: None The Lancaster JetHawks scored eight runs over the first three innings and then withstood a furious comeback effort from the Giants to secure an 11-7 victory over San Jose on Monday night at The Hangar. The Giants rallied from an early 8-1 deficit to pull within one run only to see Lancaster extend their lead late and hang on for the win. Jalen Miller (3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI) had three hits and drove in two runs to lead San Jose offensively in defeat. Aramis Garcia (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Bryan Reynolds (2-for-5) added two hits apiece. Giants starter Matt Krook was tagged for seven runs (all earned) on five hits and four walks over 1 2/3 innings to take the loss in his California League debut. Struggles At The Hangar Following last night s loss, the Giants are now 7-20 at The Hangar since the beginning of the 2012 season. San Jose hasn t won a series in Lancaster since sweeping a four-game set from August 11-14, Busy Bullpen After working 6 1/3 more innings last night, Giants relievers have thrown 31 innings over the first five games of the season (3.48 ERA). By comparison, San Jose starters have thrown just 19 2/3 innings this year (5.95 ERA). Extra, Extra Last Thursday s season-opening 16-inning loss was San Jose s longest game since playing an 18-inning contest on May 16, 2011 versus the Stockton Ports (10-9 win). Home Opener On Deck Following the current series in Lancaster, the Giants return to the South Bay to open their home schedule. San Jose's home opener at Municipal Stadium is scheduled for Thursday night against the Stockton Ports. The San Jose franchise is celebrating its 75th year at Municipal Stadium in 2017 (oldest facility in the California League). The Giants will host the Ports and Visalia Rawhide during their opening homestand (April 13-20).
