Stockton posted a 5-4 victory over the Giants in the series opener last night. Raffi Vizcaino (3-3, 5.11 ERA) is slated to make the start on the mound for San Jose tonight. Lost 7 Of 9 The Giants enter this evening s contest having lost seven out of their last nine games. Last night s loss dropped San Jose (32-32) to.500 overall this season. The Giants haven t been below the.500 mark since after the third game of the season (1-2). All-Stars Four San Jose Giants infielders Jalen Miller and Wander Franco and pitchers Sandro Cabrera and Logan Webb were named midseason California League All-Stars this week. The quartet will play for the North Division in the California League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 19 in Lancaster. Miller is fourth in the league in batting average (.313), first in runs scored (44), second in hits (78) and eighth in RBI s (36). Franco leads the league with 20 doubles while batting at a.288 clip. Cabrera s six wins is tied for the league lead and his 3.34 ERA ranks eighth-best. Webb owns a 1.80 ERA in 40 innings this season. Inside The Season Series Last night s defeat was the Giants fourth straight loss to Stockton. The Ports swept a three-game series at Municipal Stadium last week (June 5-7) the first time San Jose had been swept at home since June 15-18, 2017 (Visalia). The Giants are now 5-6 against Stockton this season (3-4 at Municipal Stadium, 2-2 at Banner Island Ballpark). San Jose is batting just.227 versus Ports pitching this year. Close Calls Yesterday s 5-4 loss was San Jose s 25th one-run game of the season (11-14 record). The Giants have played the second-most one-run games in the California League this year (Inland Empire 26 games). Following last night s defeat, San Jose has lost their last five games that have been decided by one run. Brusa Named Cal League Offensive Player Of The Week Gio Brusa was named California League Offensive Player of the Week yesterday. In six games played last week, Brusa hit.348 (8-for-23) with four home runs and 10 RBI s. Brusa matched a San Jose Giants single-game record with three home runs last Sunday in Modesto. He became the fourth player in the 31-year history of the San Jose Giants to hit three home runs in a game (Adam Witter 2007, Hector Sanchez 2011, Dillon Dobson 2017). Brusa finished the contest with five runs scored and six RBI s. Since coming off the disabled list on June 3 (concussion), Brusa is batting.355 (11-for-31) in eight games with five home runs and 11 RBI s. Brusa ranks fifth in the league in RBI s (38), tied for sixth in home runs (10), seventh in slugging (.521) and tenth in OPS (.851).
