Jason Forjet (6-4, 4.27) is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants tonight. Final First Half Series This matchup against the Quakes marks the final series of the first half for the Giants. Following this series, San Jose will enjoy a three-day All-Star break before opening the second half next Thursday, June 23 in Stockton. Technically, the Giants won t end the first half until July 14 when they play a make-up game in Lancaster as part of a doubleheader. The second game of the twinbill on 7/14 is a make-up for the April 10 rainout at Municipal Stadium and will count towards the first half standings. Standings Update The Giants (37-28) are currently in second place in the North Division 7 1/2 games behind first half champion Visalia (45-21). Reyes (6-1) LP: Grendell (0-1) S: Martinez (19) Steven Duggar hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the bottom of the seventh before relievers Reyes Moronta and Rodolfo Martinez closed out Inland Empire late for a 5-4 Giants victory yesterday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. San Jose rallied from a three-run deficit in the contest to take the rubber game of the series. Duggar (2-for-3, RBI) and Jonah Arenado (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) had two hits apiece while Daniel Carbonell (1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) delivered a key game-tying two-run double in the sixth inning to lead the Giants offensively. Mark Reyes won his fourth consecutive start after pitching seven innings with four runs allowed. Moronta then struck out the side in a perfect eighth inning before Martinez worked a top of the ninth to pick-up the save. Giants moved into a tie for first with the Rawhide after defeating Visalia on June 3. Since, San Jose has lost seven out of 11 games while the Rawhide have won 12 straight. The Giants last won a first half title in San Jose claimed a leaguerecord seven consecutive first half championships from June Swoon The Giants are only 6-8 in June after posting a league-best 21-9 record during May. San Jose has yet to win more than two games in a row this month. The Giants are only batting.237 as a team in June after hitting at a.260 clip in April and.261 in May. Four Giants Named To California League All-Star Team Four San Jose Giants starting pitcher Sam Coonrod, shortstop C.J Hinojosa, relief pitcher Rodolfo Martinez and first baseman Chris Shaw were named to the California League All-Star team last week. The quartet will participate in the California-Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 21 in Lake Elsinore. Coonrod is second in the league with a 1.98 ERA over 11 starts this season (5-3 record). Hinojosa ranks third in the Cal League in batting average (.313) and fourth in on-base percentage (.396). Martinez boasts a league-best 19 saves to go with a sparkling 0.65 ERA. Shaw is third in home runs (13), fifth in slugging (.526), fourth in RBI s (47) and fourth in doubles (19). Hinojosa (SS) and Shaw (1B) have been named All-Star Game starters. Late Innings The Giants have suffered only one defeat this season when leading after seven innings (34-1) tied for the fewest losses in the league (Rancho Cucamonga). Conversely, San Jose is one of only two teams in the league (Inland Empire) that has not won a game this year when trailing after seven innings (0-24). Hitting Streaks Outfielder Ronnie Jebavy (nine games) and infielder Jonah Arenado (seven games) bring hitting streaks into tonight s action. Jebavy is batting.333 (12-for-36) during his streak with one home run and four RBI s. Jebavy hit just.177 in April this season before improving to a.266 clip in May while he s currently batting.321 in June. Arenado owns a.357 average (10-for-28) during his current hit streak. San Jose s longest hit streak this season is 10 games (Chris Shaw). Close Calls San Jose s last four games have all been decided by one run (3-1). Today s Opponent: Rancho Cucamonga Quakes The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, are two games behind High Desert for the top spot in the South Division with four to play in the first half. The Quakes have lost their last two games after winning six straight. Rancho Cucamonga is third in the league in batting average (.268) and tied for first in ERA (3.64). This series marks the Quakes first visit to Municipal Stadium since defeating the Giants in the Championship Series last September.
