Cucamonga, 7:05 Visalia at Stockton, 7:10 Sweep Avoided The Giants avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the visiting Visalia Rawhide yesterday afternoon scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 4-3 victory. It marked San Jose s ninth walk-off win of the season. Visalia won the first two games of the series by the scores of 6-4 (11 innings) on Tuesday and 6-0 on Wednesday. The Giants have still not been swept in a series since dropping four straight games to the Lake Elsinore Storm from May 4-7 at Municipal Stadium. Angel Villalona s two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Christian Arroyo with the winning run to lift the Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Visalia Rawhide yesterday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. San Jose rallied late from a 3-2 deficit as Andrew Susac tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh before Villalona s hit in the ninth gave the Giants the walk-off win. Villalona (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Arroyo (2-for-4, 2B) had two hits apiece to lead San Jose offensively. Tyler Rogers picked-up the win out of the bullpen after holding the Rawhide scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings. Giants starter Jason Forjet matched a career-high with seven innings and allowed three runs (2 ER). Offensive Woes The Giants have been shutout in two out of their last four games (Sunday at Lake Elsinore and Wednesday vs. Visalia) picking-up just two hits in both contests. Over their last 16 games (7-9 record), San Jose is batting just.205 as a team and averaging 3.2 runs per contest. Lost Six Of Eight The Giants are 2-6 in their last eight games after going 21-6 in their previous 27 games. Tim Hudson Rehab Start San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Hudson is scheduled to make the start on the mound tonight for San Jose as part of a rehabilitation assignment. Hudson is currently on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder having last pitched on July 26. In 17 starts for San Francisco this season, Hudson is 6-8 with a 4.80 ERA. Hudson was also on the DL from June 27-July 19 with a shoulder injury. The 40-year old right-hander leads all active major leaguers with 220 wins. Over his 17-year major league career (Oakland , Atlanta , San Francisco ), Hudson is with a 3.50 ERA and has recorded 2,069 strikeouts. League-Leading Pitching Staff San Jose currently boasts the lowest team ERA in the California League at The Giants also lead the league in strikeouts (1107) and are second in shutouts (10). San Jose owns a 2.39 team ERA (90 ER/338.2 IP) in their last 35 games (23-12 record). Christian Arroyo Shortstop Christian Arroyo ranks fourth in the California League with a.318 batting average. Arroyo has hit two home runs in his last five games and now has eight homers overall this season. The former first round pick hit.300 in the first half (27 games) and owns a.330 batting average in the second half (42 games). Dominant Bullpen Since the beginning of July, the Giants bullpen has fashioned a stellar 1.98 ERA. Jake Smith (8th, 103) and Ian Gardeck (18th, 88) are the only two relievers in the California League to rank among the top 20 in strikeouts. Second half ERA s of San Jose relievers: Gardeck (2.27), Jones (2.18), Rogers (0.94), Slania (4.18), Smith (1.93) and Soptic (1.98). San Jose is the lone team in the league to have not lost a game this season when leading after eight innings (47-0). Andrew Susac Rehab Assignment San Francisco Giants catcher Andrew Susac began a rehabilitation assignment with San Jose last Tuesday. Susac is recovering from a sprained right thumb ligament sustained while sliding into third base on July 18 in Arizona. Susac is batting.241 with three home runs and 11 RBI s in 112 at-bats with the SF Giants this season. Susac, one of 14 former SJ Giants on San Francisco s World Series roster last year, played in the California League during the 2012 season (.244, 9 HR, 52 RBI). He s 2-for-10 with a double and an RBI over his first three games with San Jose this week. Today s Opponent: Lancaster JetHawks The Lancaster JetHawks, an affiliate of the Houston Astros, are this season and have a one-game lead over Inland Empire (57-57) in the South Division Wild Card race.
