Jordan Johnson (5-5, 4.13) is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants today. Second Half Underway This series against Stockton marked the beginning of the second half for the Giants. The Ports posted back-to-back victories of 5-0 and 6-4 to open the series before San Jose earned a 7-4 win last night. The Giants will play their first 19 games of the second half against North Division teams. Giant Woes Since climbing to a season-high 12 games above.500 on June 3 (33-21), the Giants have posted just a 7-11 record. June Swoon The Giants are 9-12 in June after a league-best 21-9 record during May. San Jose has yet to win more than two games in a row this month. Chris Shaw (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) hit a go-ahead two-run home run as part of the decisive fifth-inning rally to lead the way offensively for San Jose. Jose Vizcaino, Jr. (2-for-3, RBI), Daniel Carbonell (2- for-5) and Ty Ross (2-for-4, RBI) also finished with multi-hit games. Jason Forjet picked-up the win after pitching the first five innings with four runs allowed. Tyler Cyr (2 IP), Reyes Moronta (1 IP) and Rodolfo Martinez (1 IP) then combined for four scoreless innings of relief with just one hit surrendered..238 as a team and averaging 3.5 runs per game in June (.260 April,.261 May). San Jose has scored over five runs just three times in 21 games this month. The Giants have been held to three runs or fewer in 12 out of 21 games in June. Versus The Ports San Jose has won 11 out of 13 games against Stockton this season. The Giants were a perfect 10-0 versus the Ports during the first half. San Jose swept three series against Stockton in the first half while amassing a +44 run differential (71-27). Today marks San Jose s final game at Banner Island Ballpark in Shaw Among League Leaders All-Star first baseman Chris Shaw currently ranks among the league leaders in several offensive categories. Shaw is second in the California League in home runs (15), third in doubles (21) and tied for third in RBI s (50). Closer Rodolfo Martinez leads the California League with 21 saves to go with a sparkling 0.88 ERA. Conversely, San Jose is one of only two teams in the league (Inland Empire) that has not won a game this year when trailing after seven innings (0-28). On Deck The Giants return to Municipal Stadium tomorrow night to begin a three-game series against the Bakersfield Blaze. Bakersfield swept a four-game series from San Jose when the clubs last met (June 4-7 at Muni). It marked only the second time in the last five seasons that the Giants had been swept in a four-game series at home. First Half Review The Giants posted a record during the first half and finished in second place in the North Division 6 1/2 games behind Visalia (46-24) for the top spot. San Jose moved into a tie for first with the Rawhide after defeating Visalia on June 3. The Giants then went 6-9 to close the half while the Rawhide posted a sizzling 13-3 record. Officially, San Jose still has one first half game remaining this season on July 14 in Lancaster (second game of the doubleheader make-up of April 10 rainout at Municipal Stadium). Today s Opponent: Stockton Ports The Stockton Ports, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, went in the first half and finished in fourth place in the North Division. Stockton s season-high four-game winning streak was snapped last night. The Ports are still 9-4 in their last 13 games overall. Stockton is at home this year (17-18 road).
