Shaun Anderson (0-1, 8.10) is slated to start on the mound for San Jose tonight. Winning Ways Despite last night s loss, the Giants enter this evening s contest having won four out of their last five games. San Jose is also 7-3 in their last 10 games overall following a 7-15 stretch. In The Standings The Giants (19-22) are only one game behind Modesto (20-21) and Visalia (20-21) for the top spot in the second half North Division standings. San Jose was six games out 11 days ago. The Giants were last in first place in the North Division on April 19 (7-5 first half record). Including tonight, 29 games remain in the regular season. Struggling With The Sixers Yesterday s loss dropped the Giants to 0-5 against Inland Empire this season at Municipal Stadium. The 66ers swept a four-game series against San Jose LAST GAME August R H E Inland Emp San Jose WP: Pena (6-10) LP: McCasland (5-11) S: None The Giants saw their season-high tying four-game win streak snapped with a 5-1 loss to the Inland Empire 66ers on Thursday evening at Municipal Stadium. Sixers starting pitcher Luis Pena tossed seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts to lead Inland Empire to the series-opening victory. The 66ers scored all five of their runs over two frames a two-run top of the third and a threerun fifth inning. Jonah Arenado (3-for-4) singled three times to lead San Jose offensively in defeat. The Giants only run of the contest came on a Dillon Dobson eighth-inning RBI single. San Jose finished with nine hits, but went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base. Jake McCasland (5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER) suffered the loss. from May at Muni before knocking off the Giants last night. League Leaderboard The Giants boast two out of the top five hitters in the California League in Ryan Howard (2nd.320) and Bryan Reynolds (5th,.316). Howard is also second in the league in hits (132). At Muni The Giants saw their season-high five-game home winning streak snapped with last night s setback. Prior to the five-game streak, San Jose hadn t won more than two straight contests at Municipal Stadium this year. The Giants have a league-worst home record this season, but are at Muni in the second half (10-25 first half). San Jose s road record is second-best in the league. In The Pen The San Jose bullpen owns a cumulative 3.42 ERA this year (starters ERA 5.12). The Giants seven blown saves this season are the fewest in the California League. Individually, Dylan Rheault is tied for first in the California League with 17 saves. Rheault has collected the save in 11 out of San Jose s last 15 wins. The Giants (45-0) are one of only two teams (Visalia) that has yet to lose this season when leading after eight innings. Rodolfo Returns 2016 California League All-Star Rodolfo Martinez returned to the Giants yesterday. Martinez has been limited to eight relief appearances with Double-A Richmond this season (5.63 ERA over eight innings) due to shoulder and oblique injuries. Martinez last pitched for the Flying Squirrels on May 29. He made two rehab appearances with the AZL Giants (Rookie) over the last week before joining the Giants. Last year in San Jose, Martinez fashioned a 0.88 ERA over 30 2/3 innings. He led the California League with 21 saves despite spending the final two months of the season in Double-A. Garcia Promoted Aramis Garcia was promoted to Double-A Richmond on Tuesday. Garcia currently ranks fifth in the California League in batting average (17), fifth in RBI s (65) and fifth in slugging percentage (.497). He was batting.272 over 81 games with San Jose. Garcia is rated the #8 prospect in the SF Giants organization according to MLB.com.
