The teams have split the first two games of the series with the Nuts claiming a 3-1 victory on Friday before the Giants rallied for a 9-8 win last night. Domenic Mazza (3-5, 3.94 ERA) is slated to make the start on the mound for San Jose today. The series versus Modesto will close out the season for the Giants. The Giants San Jose is 1-4 during their current homestand (0-3 vs. Stockton, 1-1 vs. Modesto) and have lost eight out of their last 10 games overall. Walk-Off Win Last night s victory was the Giants eighth walk-off win this season. Five of the eight walk-off win came in April. Johneshwy Fargas hit a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning yesterday San Jose s third walk-off home run of the year (Jalen Miller April 14 vs. Stockton, Gio Brusa April 15 vs. Stockton). Last night was also the Giants league-leading fifth victory this season when trailing after eight innings. Inside The Record The Giants have clinched the worst overall record in the California League this season. It s the second consecutive year that San Jose will finish with the worst record in the league (62-78 in 17). Prior to last season, the Giants posted the worst record in the league only once in their first 29 years (1997). San Jose is (.328) since July 1 and (.345) since the beginning of June. The Giants are only in their last 41 home games dating back to June 2 (after starting the season at home). For the first time in team history ( ), San Jose will finish with a sub-.500 overall record for three straight seasons (62-78 in 2017, in 2016). Team Awards The Giants will recognize their Pitcher of the Year in a ceremony before today s game. Award winners this season include Wander Franco and Heath Quinn (co-offensive Players of the Year), Bryce Johnson (Defensive Player of the Year), Patrick Ruotolo and Nolan Riggs (co-relief Pitchers of the Year) and Dylan Rheault (Good Guy Award). San Jose will honor their team MVP before tomorrow s season finale. League Leaderboard Several Giants hitters currently rank among the California League leaders. Heath Quinn is fifth in the league in batting average (.300) and sixth in OPS (.866). Wander Franco is second in doubles (39) and fifth in hits (142). Jalen Miller is tied for fourth in doubles (35) and fifth in extra-base hits (51). Gio Brusa is tied for fourth in home runs (19) and ninth in RBI s (70). Johneshwy Fargas leads the league in stolen bases (45) while Bryce Johnson is fourth (30). Miller Named Postseason All-Star Jalen Miller has been named to the postseason California League All-Star team. Miller was San Jose s lone selection to the team. The former third round draft pick is batting.274 with 35 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 62 RBI s and 11 stolen bases in 121 games. Miller is currently rated the #23 prospect in the San Francisco organization by MLB.com and was also a midseason California League All-Star. Miller entered 2018 with a career.224 batting average over his first three professional seasons.
