Chase Johnson (3-3, 3.55) is slated to make the start on the mound for San Jose tonight. Modesto has won the first two games of the series claiming a 5-2 decision on Thursday before a 4-3, 10-inning victory last night. Three Straight Losses The Giants enter tonight s contest having lost three games in a row. San Jose suffered a loss in the final game of the first half last Sunday (vs. Inland Empire) before consecutive defeats to Modesto over the last two nights to open the second half. The Giants last dropped four straight games from May 4-7 when they were swept in a four-game series by the Lake Elsinore Storm at Municipal Stadium. Struggling Versus Nuts Pitching The Giants are batting just.215 as a team and averaging 2.7 runs per game against Modesto this season. San Jose is 5-6 overall versus the Nuts, LAST GAME June (10) - R H E Modesto San Jose WP: Carasiti (2-5) LP: Slania (2-3) S: None Modesto s Raimel Tapia hit a go-ahead RBI triple with two outs in the top of the 10th inning as the Nuts earned a 4-3 victory over the Giants last night. San Jose battled back from an early 3-0 deficit and tied the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth before Modesto reclaimed the lead in the 10th. Seth Harrison (3-for-4, 3B) had three hits, including a key triple during the eighth-inning rally, to lead the Giants offensively. Tyler Horan (2-for-5, 2B) also finished with a multi-hit game. Dan Slania, who pitched the top of the 10th for San Jose, suffered the loss. All four Nuts runs in the game (and all nine of their runs in the series) came on two-out hits. The Giants were just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. including a 3-2 mark at Municipal Stadium. The Giants have scored three runs or fewer in nine out of 11 games against Modesto this season. San Jose hasn t scored more than four runs in any game versus the Nuts in Extras San Jose fell to 5-6 in extra-inning games this season with last night s defeat. Cole Promoted To Richmond All-Star Outfielder Hunter Cole was transferred to Double-A Richmond yesterday. Cole joins outfielder Jesus Galindo and second baseman Austin Slater as Giants players to earn promotions to the Flying Squirrels this week. Cole leads the Giants and is fifth in the California League with a.313 batting average this season. He s also tops on San Jose in triples (5), home runs (6 tied), RBI s (37), on-base percentage (.373) and slugging percentage (.493). Cole joined the Giants on April 22 after beginning the season with Class-A Augusta. He was a 26th round pick in the 2014 draft. Against The North The Giants are just (.316) against North Division teams this season. By comparison, San Jose is (.529) versus the South Division. The Giants will play their first 21 games of the second half against North Division opponents. Villalona Returns First baseman Angel Villalona was added to the Giants roster yesterday from Richmond (AA). In 28 games for the Flying Squirrels this season, Villalona was batting.143 (8-for-56) with two doubles, no home runs and six RBI s. Villalona, 24, spent all of last season in Richmond and hit.227 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI s in 101 games. He earned midseason California League All-Star honors with San Jose in 2013 after clubbing 14 home runs to go with 16 doubles, 42 RBI s and a.229 batting average in 73 games. Villalona also played in 74 games with the SJ Giants during the 2009 season (.267 AVG, 9 HR, 42 RBI).
