Luis Rojas (7-5, 4.81) is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants today. San Jose is 11-2 against Inland Empire this season, including a perfect 6-0 mark in games played at Municipal Stadium. The Giants open the playoffs on Saturday with Game One of the best-of-five North Division Series against the winner of the Mini-Series between Modesto and Visalia. Last Game The Giants earned their third straight win over Inland Empire to begin the series with a 6-2 victory yesterday afternoon. San Jose starter Adalberto Mejia matched a career-high with nine strikeouts and allowed just two runs over the first seven innings to pick-up the win. Trevor Brown (2-for-4, 2 2B) and Bobby Haney (2-for-3, RBI) had two hits apiece, Elliott Blair (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) smacked a two-run homer while Mac Williamson (1-for-3, 2 RBI) added a pair of RBI s to lead the Giants offensively. Won 14 Of 16 San Jose enters today s contest having won 14 out of their last 16 games. The Giants won a season-high 10 straight games from August San Jose swept three straight series (vs. Inland Empire 3, at Stockton 3, at Bakersfield 4) during the streak. The Giants began the current homestand with back-to-back losses to Visalia before defeating the Rawhide on Thursday and then taking three straight from Inland Empire over the last three days. Top Overall Record With San Jose s win and Lancaster s loss yesterday, the Giants (83-56) clinched the top overall record in the California League this season. San Jose has now posted the top overall record in the league four times in the last six seasons (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013). By virtue of finishing with the best overall record in the North Division, the Giants secured homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. Walk-Off Magic Four of San Jose s last eight home wins have come in their last at-bat, including three against Inland Empire. The Giants have eight walk-off wins this season. Leading Man In nine games since moving into the leadoff spot in the batting order, third baseman Myles Schroder is batting.436 (17-for-39) with six doubles, one triple, one home run and three RBI s. He s raised his season batting average from.270 to.293 during the nine-game stretch. Over the first three games of the current series against Inland Empire, Schroder is 7-for-12 with two doubles, a triple and a home run. League-Leading Pitching Staff The Giants pitching staff has compiled a stellar 3.64 ERA this season to lead the California League (Modesto next-closest at 3.91). San Jose has led the California League in ERA seven times over the last nine seasons. Individually, Ty Blach is first in the league in ERA (2.90) and tied for first in wins (12) while Clayton Blackburn is fourth in ERA (3.65) and fourth in strikeouts (138). As a staff, the Giants are first in the league in strikeouts (1275) and fewest home runs allowed (102). Dynamic Duo Outfielders Mac Williamson and Devin Harris have both produced impressive power numbers over the course of the season. Williamson is tied for third in the league in home runs (25) to go with 89 RBI s and a.295 batting average. He s batting.332 with 19 homers and 69 RBI s since June 1 (June.320, July.321, August.356). Over his last 15 games, Williamson owns a.463 batting average (25-for-54) with five home runs and 21 RBI s. Harris leads the league in doubles (40), is tied for fifth in home runs (22), has 83 RBI s and is batting.256 this year. Williamson is tied for third on San Jose s single-season home run list while Harris is tied for seventh. Adam Duvall (2012) holds the team single-season record with 30 home runs. First Half North Division Champions San Jose won their eighth first half North Division title in the last nine years ( , 2013) earlier this season. The Giants finished the first half with a record four games ahead of the secondplace Visalia Rawhide (39-31). By virtue of winning the division crown, San Jose has clinched a spot in the playoffs and earned a first round bye.
