The Dustdevils are led by the trio of senior Eliza Cezario, senior Desiree Arredondo and sophomore Michelle Casteaneda, which all received All-Heartland Conference Honors. Cezario currently leads the team with 322 kills - averaging 3.58 kills per game to go along with 67 total blocks - averaging.74 blocks per game. Desiree Arredondo is currently leading the Dustdevils with 993 assists - averaging assists per game - to go along with.267 hitting percentage. Michelle Castaneda is ranked second on the squad with 307 kills - averaging 3.53 kills per game. As a team, the Dustdevils are out-hitting their opponents by a.238 to.184 percentage and are averaging 13.4 kills per game. One of the strongest points of the Dustdevils squad comes at the net where they have recorded blocks compared to 41.0 for their opponents. The Dustdevils have three players on their roster that have recorded a total of 50 or more blocks this season. In Their Last Meeting Texas A&M-International captured the victory in the last match with the Lady Broncs on its home court in four sets (22-30, 30-21, 30-27, 30-18) en route to the victory on September 4th. In that match, Bravo finished with a match-high 16 kills while Chelsea Blakely led all players with 43 assists to go along with 16 digs. Eliza Cezario was one of four Dustdevils players to post 10 or more kills in the match as she finished with a team-high 15 kills. Michelle Casteaneda and Juliana Gusmao each finished with 11 kills while Nicole Gipson added 10 for the Dustdevils. Lady Broncs Look to Get Back into Win Column The Lady Broncs have a rough Month of October as they have lost all of their eight games, and are currently in a nine game losing streak. The Lady Broncs have been swept in nine of 10 matches while dropping a five-set heartbreaker on the road to The University of Texas at San Antonio. Lady Broncs Among Tops in Independent Ranks Senior Heather Bravo is one of the top offensive threats for the Lady Broncs this season, and the UTPA outside hitter is listed third among all NCAA Division I Independent players in kills per game with a 3.92 average. A career-high in kills per game, Bravo is ranked second in kills as she has recorded a career-high 349 kills. Sophomore Chelsea Blakely has posted one of her best seasons in her short career with the Lady Broncs as she has dished out a career-high assists per game, which ranks her fourth among all NCAA Division I Independent Players. Senior Karen Lyons is listed sixth among all NCAA Division I Independent players with an average of 4.25 digs per game, which is also a career-high for the Lady Bronc libero.

Bravo is currently ranked second on the all-time total attacks rankings as she has posted 3,773 for her career and possesses second place in the kills category as the Las Vegas, NV, native has collected 1,257 kills for her career. Bravo has recorded double-digit kills in the last five matches, including a pair of 20- plus kill performances against The University of Texas at San Antonio (Oct. 10) and TCU (Oct. 14). During that stretch, Bravo has averaged 16.0 kills per match and 4.71 kills per game for the Lady Broncs. Phillips Finds Herself Ranked in Program History Within the last few weeks, UTPA sophomore Kellie Phillips has begun to hit her stride as the Lady Bronc outside hitter has averaged 13.3 kills per match and 4.04 kills per game during the last seven matches. Phillips has rocketed up the career record chart as she is the program s all-time leader in attacks per game with an average and is also ranked second in career kills per game with a 3.24 average. This season, Phillips leads the team in total attacks (1010) and total attacks per game (11.47) and ranks second in kills (282) and kills per game (3.20). The UTPA outside hitter currently ranks 10th in total kills with 635 as well as 10th in total hitting percentage with a mark of.134 during her career. Blakely Flourishes at Quarterbacking UTPA Offense Sophomore Chelsea Blakely has been steady at the setter s position this season for the Lady Broncs as the UTPA sophomore has dished out 935 assists, averaging a career-high assists per game. Currently, she is ranked fourth among all NCAA Division I Independent players in assists and fifth in assists per game. Blakely has posted 30 or more assists in 11 of the last 13 matches for the Lady Broncs, averaging assists per match and assists per game. The UTPA sophomore is on-pace to become only the second player in UTPA history to record at least assists per game during a season as she would join Katie Burke (11.03 / 2002) in earning that achievement. The UTPA setter is currently ranked third on the all-time assists record as she has collected 1,781 assists for her career and possesses an 8.95 assists per game average throughout her two-year stay with the Lady Broncs. Lyons and Schneyer Rewarded in the Classroom Karen Lyons and Deanna Schneyer were rewarded this past week as Academic All- Independent award recipients following nominations for the Sports Information Director. In order to be nominated, student-athletes must have possessed at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average; had reached at least sophomore athletic standing and have been a starter or key reserve for their respective squad. Lyons became a two-time Academic All-Independent selection as the UTPA senior has posted a 3.46 cumulative grade point average in biology while Schneyer is a firsttime award winner with a 3.82 cumulative grade point average in marketing. Lyons and Schneyer became the first two UTPA Lady Bronc student-athletes to earn Independent honors this season, which is the first time in seven years that the Lady Broncs haven t had an award winner in the first seven weeks of the season.

Now - the Valley native is reaping the rewards of a long-standing four-year career as she is currently ranked in the top 10 in several categories. Lyons came into the season ranked second on the program s all-time assists rankings and currently still possesses the runner-up spot with 1,979 for her career. She is also listed fifth on the all-time digs records with 1,065 and needs only 27 digs to claim fourth place on the all-time list. She is listed sixth in all-time digs per game (2.72) and eighth in all-time assists per game (5.06). The UTPA defensive specialist is also ranked seventh in the records books in service aces (97) and games played (392). She is also on-place to become the second player in program history to collect over 1,500 assists and 1,000 digs for her career as she would join former UTPA standout Marie Velasquez - who recorded 2,492 assists and 1,024 digs over her career. This season, Lyons leads the Lady Broncs with 357 digs - which is a career-high for the senior - while also averaging a team-high 4.25 digs per game. She is on-pace to become only the fourth player in program history to average over 4.0 digs per game for an entire season as she would join Carol Marcengo (twice) and Chrissie Carrigan. Currently, Bravo sits at 1,217 digs, while Lyons stands at 1,065 digs for her career. Schaal Makes Impact in Middle of the UTPA Lineup Junior college-transfer Monique Schaal is currently ranked third on the team in kills (183), kills per game (2.15), total attacks (584) and total attacks per game (6.87). At the net, the Lady Bronc middle blocker has helped the squad as she is listed second in total blocks with 32, including 12 block solos. Schneyer Begins to Heat Up for Lady Broncs UTPA sophomore Deanna Schneyer continues to be one of the Lady Broncs top players in the middle as she has blocked a team-high 52 attempts, leading the team with 36 block assists and 16 blocks solos. Schneyer has posted at least 1.0 total blocks in 23 of 25 matches this season with the only two matches where she didn t record a block coming against Wyoming and Utah Valley State. For her career, she is ranked first in program history in total blocks per game (0.75) and seventh in block assists (116). The UTPA sophomore has an opportunity to make a move up the rankings as she only needs seven block assists to surpass Cathi Netemeyer and nine block assists to move up to fifth place behind Mindy Hubik.
