6 2011/12 Hall of Fame Inductee Dan Makosy Hammond /Damascus Dan graduated from Saint Francis University (Loretto, PA) where he played football for 4 years as a linebacker and was captain his senior year. He started his 24 year career in 1988 as Offensive Line coach and Linebackers Coach at Damascus HIgh School under Al Thomas. From 1994 to 1997, Dan took over as the Defensive Coordinator at Damascus. In 1998 he became the Head Coach at Damascus. As the Head Coach for 10 years, Dan s teams won several County, Regional and State Championships. In 2008, he left Damascus and became the offensive coordinator of Albert Einstein High School. In 2009 to date, Dan is the head coach at Hammond High (Howard County). Since 2003, Dan has been involved in the NFL High School Development Camps. As site manager for the camps he has organized and run these camps for over 500 youth football players during the summer. Dan has been a very active speaker on the circuit, speaking at many prestigious clinics. Here are a few : University of Maryland Football Clinic, Nike Clinics, Glazier Mega Clinic and 1st Team Sports Clinics. 7 2011/12 Hall of Fame Inductee Steve Turnbaugh Hereford Steve has just completed his 30 th year of coaching football in Baltimore County, and his 17 th year as the head coach at Hereford High School. Prior to returning to his alma mater as head football coach Steve toiled 13 years as an assistant coach at Owings Mills, Towson and Hereford before ascending to the head position. Steve took over the perennial doormat program in 1995 and managed a 5-5 record, the first non-losing record in years. Beginning in 1996, the Turnbaugh led Bulls ran off nine straight 10+ win seasons as well as nine straight play-off appearances. Under Turnbaugh, the Bulls have qualified for the state playoffs in 14 of 17 seasons. Three times a state champion, the Bulls have lost to the eventual champion or Finalist in every playoff year but one. In 17 seasons as head coach at Hereford High School, Steve has a career record of His teams have won three state football titles (1A-1997, 2A-2001, 2A-2002), two State Finalist appearances (2A-2004 & 3A-2007), eight Region Titles and 12 Baltimore County Championships. Steve has turned the Hereford High School Football program into one of the models of excellence in the state of Maryland. During his long coaching career,steve has also coached baseball, wrestling and lacrosse. 8 2011/12 Hall of Fame Inductee Ben Wright Thomas Johnson A graduate of DuVall High School in Prince Georges County,Ben played various positions including running back, linebacker and defensive back. After an injury when trying out for Maryland s football team, his interest became weightlifting. During the off season, Ben used to drop by College Park and watch Maryland s football team work out in the weight room. He got to know the coaching staff and worked at the Terps coach, Jerry Claiborne s camp. Wright saw how Maryland s emphasis on weightlifting helped produce ACC titles and therefore Bigger, Faster, Stronger became his basic coaching philosophy for the past 44 years of coaching. Ben started his 44 year football coaching career in PG County where he was an assistant for Duvall High School for 3 years and Head Coach at Eleanore Roosevelt High School for 7 years where he compiled a record. In 1984, Ben became the Head Coach at Thomas Johnson HS in Frederick County. In his 26 years at TJ, Ben compiled a record of After taking over at the start of the 1984 season, TJ made five straight state playoff appearances from ; including a trip to the Class 3A state title game in 1997, where the Patriots fell, 7-0, to Wilde Lake. TJ also ripped off a 34-game Central Maryland Conference winning streak during that span. His teams have won 4 regional and 8 league championships. Ben is the third winningest coach in Frederick County history, his 168 wins trail only Coaches Tim Ambrose and Dave Carruthers, both Hall of Fame members.

Voight Award 2011/12 Wayne Boor Wheaton Wayne, a graduate of Keyser High School in 1945, attended Potomac State College Mississippi State and the University of Tulsa where he graduated in In 1964, he earned his Masters from George Washington University. Wayne was a three sport athlete in High School playing Football, Basketball and Track. At Potomac State, he played Football & Basketball in , and in the 27th Infantry Division in In 1948 he attended Mississippi State on a football scholarship, then transferred to Tulsa University where he played for 3 years. He started his coaching career at Fort Ashby High School (West Virginia ) in 1953 as a Basketball Coach. In 1954, he joined the football staff at Fort Hill High as an assistant coach. Wayne moved to Wheaton High School in 1959 where he stayed until During that time Wayne was the Defensive Coordinator for Football, Head Track Coach and Athletic Director. 10 Defensive Player of the Year STEFON DIGGS Senior Good Counsel Defensive Back Da QUAN DAVIS Senior Calvert Hall Repeat All-State & All-Met was a threat on nearly every play as Falcons went 12-0 and won third consecutive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. At cornerback, Diggs was seventh on the team with 31.5 tackles (5.5 for losses), intercepted four passes, broke up 10 passes and forced three fumbles. On offense, he caught 36 passes for 770 yards and eight touchdowns, while rushing 17 times for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Also returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns. Of his 13 touchdowns, 10 were on plays that were at least 37 yards. College: Maryland Defensive Back KENDALL FULLER Junior Good Counsel Rangy 5-11, 175- pound technician at cornerback; fundamentally sharp in coverage. Had 38 tackles, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, nine pass breakups. Blocked three field-goal or extra-point attempts Two-way standout intercepted three passes and made 25.5 tackles. Also caught 26 passes for 527 yards and five TDs. College: West Virginia Defensive Back DONOVAN RILEY Senior Poly Active shut-down 6-foot, 192-pound cornerback; second-team selection last season. Had 48 tackles 18 solo, five interceptions; 16 career interceptions; career-high three picks vs. Edmondson. At wide receiver caught 18 passes for 340 yards, five touchdowns; 14 career touchdowns Defensive Back DEON-TAY McMANUS Senior Dunbar Year pick for All- State and All-Met. Had 12 tackles in the state playoffs; finished with 102. 11 Linebacker SAM LEBBIE Senior DeMatha Linebacker MARCUS NEWBY Junior Quince Orchard The rangy West Virginia recruit had 79 tackles (15 for loss) and eight sacks. Also forced seven fumbles. 2 time all-county first teame performer for county s stingiest defense; he is also one of Maryland s top prospects, with scholarship offers from Division I programs such as University of Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers, among others. College: West Virginia Linebacker SHAWN PETTY Senior Eleanor Roosevelt Linebacker MICAH KISER Junior Gilman U-Md. recruit had 51 tackles, five sacks. Forced three fumbles for 10-1 team. At QB, passed for 1,244 yards, 15 TDs. Smart 6-2, 215-pound middle linebacker; defensive quarterback for No. 1 Greyhounds. Run stopper who can get into pass coverage. Had six sacks, four interceptions, a fumble recovery, 91 tackles Offers from Florida, Auburn, Virginia, South Carolina, among others College: Maryland Linebacker TYLER THOMPSON Senior Linganore Defensively (102 total tackles, 19 for loss, eight sacks, one interception, seven pass breakups, eleven hurries) and offensively (1,087 rushing yards, 15 (touchdowns), Defensive Line ROMAN BRAGLIO Senior McDonogh foot-3, 230-pound defensive end excels at rushing passer. 12 Defensive Line RODERICK CHUNGONG Senior Good Counsel Defensive Line KENNETH GOINS Senior Gilman This 6-foot-3, 245-pound first-team All-WCAC selection collected 26.5 tackles, a pair of sacks and 6 1/2 tackles for a loss on a Falcons defense that allowed just 10.3 points per game this fall. College: Georiga Tech Baltimore All- Metro Team Defensive Player of the Year. This fall, Goins had 15 sacks and 61 tackles. He finished his career with 41 sacks, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. Defensive Line COLTON KMETZ Senior Urbana College: Maryland Defensive Line MICHAEL MOORE Senior DeMatha A 2 Year All-State Player. This Highly-touted Division I recruit, despite constant double teams and being the focus of every offensive line, led Hawks in sacks The defensive end had 91 tackles (21 for loss), 11 sacks, six forced fumbles College: Kent State College: Virginia Offensive Player of the Year ROB CHESSON Senior Old Mill The speedster enjoyed one of the finest seasons ever by an area player, setting a Maryland single-season record with 49 touchdowns. Led the region in rushing with 2,701 yards, including a stretch in which he rushed for more than 200 yards in five consecutive games. Rushed for 312 yards and seven touchdowns in a Maryland 4A semifinal victory over Catonsville and then had the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime of the championship game as the Patriots beat Quince Orchard, 36-35, to win their second state title in three seasons
13 Quarterback THOMAS STUART Senior Calvert Hall Running Back WES BROWN Senior Good Counsel Repeat first-team All- Met pick; excellent arm, completed 216 of 302passes for 2,620 yards, 38 touchdowns. Threw seven touchdowns in triple-overtime win over McDonogh, five in double-overtime MIAA A Conference final loss to Gilman Despite being hampered by injury, this highly-sought FBS Division I college recruit ran over and through opponents to the tune of 1,381 yards and 22 touchdowns, averaging yards per contest this fall. College: Maryland Running Back MARK GREEN Senior Quince Orchard All-Purpose Back CYRUS JONES Senior Gilman Workhorse averaged 24 carries and made countless key plays for Md. 4A finalists. Rushed for 2,057 yards, 28 TDs. He totaled 2,365 yards and scored 24 touchdowns. He rushed 109 times for 948 yards and 13 touchdowns, caught 39 passes for 635yards and six touchdowns, gained 354 yards on kickoff returns and had 428 yards on punt returns. At cornerback, he had five interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. College: Alabama Wide Receiver BILLY BROWN Senior Gathersburg Wide Receiver TAIVON JACOBS Junior Suitland Big target caught 40 passes for 935 yards, 13 TDs. At defensive end, had 20 sacks and 75 tackles. Caught 35 passes for 921 yards and 13 TDs. On defense, had 72 tackles and six interceptions. Had nine returns for TD
14 Wide Receiver BEN LEWIS Senior Middletown College: Syracuse Offensive Line PAUL FEDERINKO Senior Atholton College: Lafayette Offensive Line Syracuse University commit looked like best player on field in Class 2A championship game, where he scored long touchdowns on the ground and through the air. Led team with 874 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns. Strong, agile 6-5,. 310-pound tackle excelled in a complex zone scheme. Paved the way for running game that averaged 242 yards and offense that posted 36.5 points. Played two years in England; 28 tackles as defensive tackle MIKE MADARAS Senior Good Counsel Wide Receiver TREVOR WILLIAMS Senior Calvert Hall Durable 6-2, 190-pound two-way player; can run any route; great hands, strong blocker. Caught 99 passes for 1,180 yards, 15 touchdowns. As a defensive back, had 31 tackles, four interceptions, six pass breakups College: West Virginia Offensive Line Brian Gaia Senior Gilman Led team in pancake blocks with 22; plowed the way for 2,727 rushing yards; repeat first-team pick. Doubled as defensive tackle with 8 eight sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 43 tackles. College: Penn State Offensive Line GREG PYKE Senior Boys Latin Outstanding blocker was leader up front as Falcons rushed for 236 yards per game and averaged 37 points Intimidating 6-foot-6, 305-pound tackle with exceptional athleticism. Record Ranked #1 in the Washington Post 3 years in a row. Signed 6 division 1 players this year, 3 going to Maryland, 1 Georgia tech, 1 Purdue and 1 Albany. Ranked #4 to #6 in 7 national polls: Rivals, Max-Preps, USA Today, ESPN, Fox Sports On a 18 game winning streak. Placed 6 players on Maryland all-state team, 2011 Season Started off 2-2 and overcame some key injuries to go on a 10 game winning streak to win the 3A state championship. We had a big victory over Atholton in the 3A East Region championship game, Went on to win the two state playoff games by a combined score of Aberdeen was 41-7 and Thomas Johnson was in the State Final.
