7 2014/15 Hall of Fame Inductee Chuck Markiewicz Arundel Chuck played football for Jerry Mears while being coached by Buddy Hepfer in wrestling and baseball at Arundel. A graduate of Salisbury State University, Chuck became assistant football coach at Arundel High School. His first full-time job was in the Anne Arundel County school system, replacing future Towson State football coach Gordy Combs as physical education teacher at Glen Burnie Park Elementary. He got a chance to be a head coach for the first time at Chesapeake High in 1983, and so began a long and successful run. Three decades later, Coach Markiewicz is the all-time winningest football coach in Anne Arundel County history having compiled a remarkable career record of (.719) in 28 seasons. He is the winningest coach in the history of both North County (79-39, 11 seasons) and Arundel (119-35, 15 season). Coach Markiewicz was one of the most innovative coaches in Maryland history having pioneered the Run-and-Shoot offense. That high-powered passing attack, which Chuck now calls the Spread, has set 26 state records for offensive production. In 1994, North County reached the pinnacle by capturing the Class 4A state championship. That is one of five state football titles in Anne Arundel history along with Arundel (1975), Annapolis (1978) and Old Mill (2009, 2011). Chuck realized a lifelong dream when he became head coach at his alma mater and has led Arundel High to the most successful era of football in school history. The Wildcats have captured six county championships under his direction and were Class 4A state runner-up in 2007 while breaking many of the state passing records set by North County. I ve been very, very fortunate over the years to have been able to coach really good players and to be surrounded by outstanding assistants, Chuck said. I believe in discipline and attention to detail. You have to be true to a system and make sure you do all the little things right on a daily basis.

Nick Lynch and Coach Zack established the PG vs. SMAC All-Star game in The game is now called the Chick-fil-A Challenge and with the support of the coaches of P.G. County and SMAC the game continues to be a huge success. Coach Zack attributes his success to the support and sacrifices of his family, friends, assistant coaches, and student athletes. Coaching is truly a family affair and all are affected. The great assistant coaches did a tremendous job preparing the players and the commitment their families made 12 months a year and his student/athletes made great sacrifices in meeting the standards set by the coaches in order to maintain a successful program.
