4 PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 2013 NBA SUMMER LEAGUE NOTES Following a 4-1 mark in the 2012 NBA Summer League, the Trail Blazers are now (.556) in seven Las Vegas Summer League appearances, having also played in 2010 (4-1), 2009 (1-4), 2008 (3-2), 2007 (2-3), 2006 (3-2) and 2005 (3-3). Portland s 4-1 marks in each of its past two NBA Summer League entries are tied for its best records in seven appearances. The Trail Blazers will play Phoenix in the team s first Summer League contest. Portland s two NBA Summer League wins over Phoenix all-time are tied for the team s second-most wins over any team in the NBA Summer League (New Orleans, 3-0; Washington, 3-0). Reigning Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard garnered co-mvp honors at last year s NBA Summer League, posting averages of 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists in four games (all starts). Will Barton and Meyers Leonard both played on the Trail Blazers NBA Summer League squad last year. Barton averaged 15.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.00 steal in five games (four starts). Leonard posted averages of 10.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.50 blocked shots in four games (all starts). Portland s 2013 NBA Summer League roster includes five players who played for the Trail Blazers last season. Damian Lillard, Meyers Leonard, Will Barton, Victor Claver and Joel Freeland all logged significant minutes for Portland in The Trail Blazers acquired two players on the summer league roster via the 2013 NBA Draft. Portland selected guard CJ McCollum out of Lehigh with the 10 th overall pick, and traded for guard Allen Crabbe out of California, who was picked with the 31 st overall selection. Portland acquired Thomas Robinson from the Houston Rockets in exchange for the NBA rights to Kostas Papanikolaou and Marko Todorovic along with two future second round picks on July 10. Selected by Sacramento with the fifth overall pick in last year s NBA Draft, Robinson averaged 4.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 43.0 percent from the field his rookie year with the Kings and Rockets. The Kansas product posted averages of 13.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists with the Kings at last year s NBA Summer League. The Trail Blazers acquired Robin Lopez and Terrel Harris from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for the draft rights to Jeff Withey, a future second round pick and cash considerations on July 10. Lopez, a five-year NBA veteran, statistically had his best year in with New Orleans, averaging career highs in points (11.3), rebounds (5.6), blocks (1.56) and minutes (26.0) in 82 games (all starts). Harris has played two NBA seasons, and was part of Miami s squad that won the 2012 NBA Championship. The Trail Blazers signed veteran free agent guard Earl Watson on July 11. Watson owns career averages of 6.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.02 steals and 22.6 minutes in 12 NBA seasons with Seattle, Memphis, Denver, Oklahoma City, Indiana and Utah. Portland s 2013 NBA Summer League roster consists of seven players who played in the NBA last season, three players out of college, three players who spent last season overseas and one who played in the D-League. Cedric Jackson, 27, is the oldest member of the team. Allen Crabbe, 21, is the youngest member of this year s team. Robin Lopez played on the Phoenix Suns NBA Summer League team in Lopez averaged 14.0 points and led the team in rebounds (7.8) and blocks (1.8). Terrel Harris was a member of Miami s 2012 NBA Summer League squad, where he averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3.50 steals and 26.3 minutes in four games (all starts). Two-time All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge finished second in rebounding during the 2007 NBA Summer League with 11.0 boards per game. Former Trail Blazers guard Jerryd Bayless earned the 2008 NBA Summer League MVP Award Other Trail Blazers to garner all- Summer League honors include Brandon Roy (2006), Martell Webster (2006), Travis Outlaw (2005) and Sebastian Telfair (2005). Despite missing the playoffs in , Portland remained in the playoff hunt through most of the season, ultimately finishing with a record. Damian Lillard, the unanimous Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, led all rookies in scoring (19.0) and assists (6.5) as he became the fourth Trail Blazers rookie to take home the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy. LaMarcus Aldridge was named to his second consecutive NBA All-Star Game, finishing the season ranked ninth in the NBA in scoring (21.1) and averaged career highs with 9.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Portland was the only team during the regular season to have five different 1,000 points scorers (Aldridge, Nicolas Batum, JJ Hickson, Lillard, Wesley Matthews). One of the youngest teams in the NBA, Portland had five rookies on its roster at the end of the season, while 12 players have five years of NBA experience or fewer.
