3 NEWS AND NOTES LEADING THE WAY: Now in his sixth season with the Trail Blazers, Terry Stotts was hired as the franchise s 14th head coach on August 7, Stotts led the Trail Blazers to a record in and has compiled a record in five-plus seasons with Portland. Stotts is the fourth-winningest coach in franchise history, and the first Trail Blazers head coach since Mike Dunleavy ( ) to reach the playoffs in four consecutive seasons (fourth overall in franchise history). Stotts was named the Western Conference Coach of the Month in March 2017 after guiding Portland to an NBA-best 13-3 record for the month. With Stotts at the helm, the Trail Blazers have ranked in the top-10 in scoring for each of the past four seasons ( to 16-17). ALL THAT BAZZ: Shabazz Napier scored a season-high 23 points (7-14 FG, PT, 7-9 FT) against the 76ers on Dec. 28. Napier has scored 20-plus points in three straight games and is averaging 18.0 points (51.3 FG%, 42.3% 3-PT), 3.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists over the last six games (three starts). It was the second 30-point game and 20th game of 20+ points for McCollum this season, tied for the 17th most in the NBA (34, Harden). McCollum scored 20-plus points in six consectutive games from Dec. 12 to Dec. 18, the second-longest streak of his career (10, 12/26/16-1/13/17). FREE THROW FEAST: Portland made a season-high 36 free throws on a season high 47 attempts against Philadelphia on Dec. 28. CJ McCollum (14-of-14 FT) and Jusuf Nurkic (11-of-16 FT) both set career highs for free throws made and free throws attempted. HARK ATTACK: Maurice Harkless scored a season high 22 points (9-16 FG, PT, 2-3 FT) to go with six rebounds and two blocks at the L.A. Lakers on Dec. 23. Harkless scored 13 of his points in the fourth quarter, including a threepoint play with 21.4 seconds remaining that gave the Trail Blazers the lead. ROOKIE WATCH: Zach Collins set career highs of 11 points and three assists at the L.A. Lakers on Dec. 23 after scoring 10 points against Denver on Dec. 22. Caleb Swanigan got the first start of his career on Nov. 13 against the Nuggets, recording six points, five rebounds and a season-high two blocks. DOUBLE-DOUBLE DAME: Damian Lillard had a double-double of 17 points and 13 assists to go with eight rebounds against the Timberwolves on December 18. It was the fifth double-double of the season for Lillard and the 50th of his career. Lillard recorded a double-double in two straight games from Dec. 16 to Dec. 18, the sixth time in his career he has done so in consecutive games. AL-FAROUQ ON FIRE: Al-Farouq Aminu made at least three 3-pointers in five of the eight games from Dec Aminu shot 23-of-45 (51.1%) from deep during that span. He has made five 3-pointers in four games this season after accomplishing the feat only twice previously in his career. Aminu is shooting 41.2% from the three point line for the season which is 31st in the NBA. LILLARD AT THE LINE: With his seventh free throw against the Heat on Dec. 13, Damian Lillard (2,081 career free throws) passed Jeromke Kersey (2,071) for fourth on Portland s all-time list. Lillard has made 193 free throws this season, the sixth most in the league (Harden, 302), and ranks sixth in the NBA in free throw percentage (92.8%). ROAD WARRIORS: The Trail Blazers were 3-2 on their five-game road trip from December 11 through 18. Portland previously completed a five-game trip spanning November 20 to 27 with a 4-1 record. Overall, the Trail Blazers are 10-7 on the road, the fourth-best road record in the league. DAME DROPPING 30: Damian Lillard scored 39 points against the Warriors on Dec. 11. It was Lillard s 10th game of 30-plus points this season, which is tied for the eighth most in the NBA (James/Harden - 14). Lillard scored 30-plus points in four straight games from Oct. 30-Nov. 5, the second longest streak of his career (five, 2/8/16-2/23/16). DOING IT ALL: Damian Lillard had 17 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists against at Minnesota on Dec. 18. It was the eighth game this season that Lillard has had seven-plus rebounds and seven-plus assists, the most such games in a season he has had in his career (5, / ). Lillard is one of four NBA players avergaing 25+ points, 5+ rebounds and 6+ assists this season. MAKING A MARK: Pat Connaughton averaged 11.0 points (72.2% FG, 71.4% 3-PT), 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 25.9 minutes per game in his first three starts of the season. He had the third-highest scoring game of his career on Nov. 27 against the Knicks, finishing with 17 points (7-9 FG, PT). DAME FROM DEEP: Damian Lillard matched his own franchise record with nine three-pointers (of 16) against the Rockets on Dec. 9. It was the fourth time in his career that Lillard has made nine three-pointers, making him one of five players in NBA history to accomplish the feat four or more times. BIG BENCH PERFORMANCE: The Trail Blazers bench combined for 49 points against the Pelicans on Dec. 2. Meyers Leonard scored a season-high 17 points (7-9 FG, PT, 1-1 FT) while Shabazz Napier added 15 points and tied his career high with seven rebounds. It was the first game this season that two Portland reserves scored 15-plus points. NURK S NIGHT: Jusuf Nurkic led Portland with 25 points and 11 rebounds against the Bucks on Nov. 30, while adding three steals and one block. Nurkic was the sixth NBA player with with 25-plus points, 11-plus rebounds, 3-plus steals and 1-plus blocks in a game this season, and the first Trail Blazers player to record that line since CJ McCollum on Dec. 27, DROPPIN DIMES: With fi ve assists agianst the Knicks on Nov. 27, Damian Lillard (2,644 career assists) moved past Rod Strickland (2,573 assists) for fourth on Portland s all-time assist list. Lillard is one of three players (Drexler, Porter) to rank in the top-10 on the franchise scoring list and in the top-five on the franchise assist list. MOVING ON UP: With a 26-point performance against the Magic on November 15, Damian Lillard passed Mychal Thompson for eighth place on the Trail Blazers all-time scoring list. 4 NEWS AND NOTES THREE-JAY MCCOLLUM: CJ McCollum is shooting 40.8% from the three-point line this season, the 34th-best mark in the league. McCollum (78 3-PT made) is 28th in the NBA in 3-pointers made and has made at least three 3-PT shots in 15 games, tied for the 19th most in the NBA (Harden - 25). BLOCK PARTY: The Trail Blazers blocked a season-high 13 shots against the Nets on Nov. 24, becoming just the fifth team in the NBA with 13 or more blocks in a game this season. Jusuf Nurkic led the way, tying his season high with four blocks, while Maurice Harkless blocked three shots for the second time in three games and Jake Layman tied his career high with two blocks. In all, seven Portland players recorded a blocked shot. TRIPLE THREAT: With a combined 89 points against the Nets on Nov. 24, Damian Lillard (34 points), Jusuf Nurkic (29 points) and CJ McCollum (26 points) became the first Portland trio to each score 25+ points in a game since Clyde Drexler, Cliff Robinson and Rod Strickland accomplished the feat in NOAH S NIGHT: Noah Vonleh recorded his fi rst double-double of the season against the Grizzlies on Nov. 20. Vonleh finished with 11 points (4-8 FG), 18 rebounds and three blocks. Each of those totals marked a season high, and the 18 rebounds were one shy of Vonleh s career high (19, 4/12/17 vs. NOP). RAINING THREES: CJ McCollum made at least three 3-pointers in six consecutive games from Nov. 2 - Nov. 15, the longest streak of his career. McCollum shot 25-of-45 from deep during that span. With six threes against the Thunder on Nov. 5, McCollum (542 3-pointers) passed Steve Blake and Cliff Robinson (492 3-pointers) for sixth on Portland s all time made 3-point list. BOSNIAN BEAST: Jusuf Nurkic had 29 points (12-19 FG, 5-10 FT), 15 rebounds, three assists and four blocks against the Nets on Nov. 24. Nurkic is the first player in Trail Blazers history to record that stat line in a non-overtime game. CJ SHINING: CJ McCollum scored a season-high 36 points (14-26 FG, PT, 4-5 FT) to go with a season-high three steals against the Grizzlies on Nov. 7. The 14 field goals tied the third-most McCollum has made in his career (16, twice) and were the most made by a Trail Blazer in a game this season. LOCKDOWN D : The Trail Blazers held five consecutive opponents to 94 or fewer points from Nov. 13 to Nov. 20. Portland has held its opponent below 100 points in 17 games this season, the fifth most in the league. The Trail Blazers are 13-4 in those contests. MORE DEFENSE: The Trail Blazers are holding their opponents to 44.7% FG shooting and 35.5% 3-PT shooting for the season. That is the fifth-lowest opponent field goal percentage and the eighth-lowest opponent 3-PT percentage in the NBA. Portland has the fifth-best defensive rating in the league overall (102.0) and the best defensive rating in the league on the road (99.7). CONNECT FORTY-NINE: Damian Lillard made 49 consecutive free throws from Oct. 30 to Nov. 10, the third-longest streak in Trail Blazers history. The longest streak of Lillard s career is 54 (March 8-24, 2016) while the longest streak in team history belongs to Damon Stoudamire (57, Jan Feb. 16, 2005). MCCOLLUM MILESTONE: With 22 points against the Lakers on Nov. 2, CJ McCollum recorded the 100th 20-point game of his career. Playing in his 268th game, McCollum was the sixth fastest Trail Blazer to score 20+ points in 100 games. BAZZ BALLING: In the eight games from Nov. 7 to Nov. 22, Shabazz Napier averaged 11.9 points (54.8% FG, 64.7% 3-PT, 80.0% FT), 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals. Playing against the Magic on Nov. 15, Napier became the third player in Trail Blazers history to make at least five 3-pointers off the bench while shooting 100% from deep (Wright, Crabbe). CAPITAL COMEBACK: The Trail Blazers trailed the Wizards by 17 points with 8:14 remaining in the fourth quarter on Nov. 25. Portland closed the game on a run, including scoring the game s final 10 points to beat Washington on the road, CJ McCollum scored seven of his 13 fourth quarter points in the final 1:30 of the game to clinch the Trail Blazers victory. TWO-BY-TWENTY: After scoring 28 points against the Lakers on Nov. 2, Jusuf Nurkic poured in 25 points (11-15 FG, 3-5 FT) to go with eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks against the Thunder on Nov. 5. It is the fi rst time in his career that Nurkic has scored 20+ points in consecutive games. TRIPLE DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Three Trail Blazers recorded a double-double during an overtime loss to the Jazz on Nov. 1. Damian Lillard finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds, Jusuf Nurkic logged 19 points and 11 rebounds, and CJ McCollum had 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was the first double-double of the season for Lillard and McCollum and the third of the season for Nurkic. NORTH OF 9,000: Playing in game number 402 for his career, Damian Lillard scored the 9,000th point of his career against the Phoenix Suns on October 28. Lillard became the fastest player in Trail Blazers history to reach 9,000 points in terms of games played (Geoff Petrie, 405). BIG ON THE BOARDS: Portland is 11th in the league in offensive rebound percentage (22.8%), 11th in defensive rebound percentage (78.6%) and third in total rebound percentage (51.4%). AMONG THE BEST: Through 35 games, the Trail Blazers rank near the top of the NBA in a number of statistical categories. Portland is eighth in free throw percentage (79.4%), seventh in rebouding average (44.9 rpg), sixth in blocks per game (5.2) and is allowing the fourth-fewest points against (100.7 ppg). MR. 3,000: Damian Lillard s second field goal of the game against the Pelicans on October 24 was the 3,000th field goal of his career. Achieving the feat in his 400th career game, Lillard was the third-fastest Trail Blazer to reach 3,000 career field goals (Geoff Petrie, Sidney Wicks). MAKING HISTORY: With a victory over the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 18, the Trail Blazers set the NBA record for the largest margin of victory in a season-opening game, besting Denver s 46-point margin over the LA Clippers on Nov. 6, The 48-point win is tied for the second-largest margin of victory in franchise history (50, vs. Cleveland 11/21/82). PATTY JUMP SHOT: Pat Connaughton scored 12 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting in the first quarter against Phoenix on Oct. 18 before finishing with a career high 24 points (9-14 FG, PT).
