Hofstra features one of the top heavyweights in the country in No. 9 Michael Hughes, who went 3-0 last weekend and sports a 24-2 record this season. GROSS, FIRESTONE COLLECT TITLES AT SHORTY HITCHCOCK Razohnn Gross (HWT) and Zach Firestone (133) collected individual titles to highlight action for No. 17 Rutgers wrestling at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic last Saturday afternoon in Millersville, Pennsylvania. In total, eight Scarlet Knights earned top-three finishes, with Kyle DiNapoli (133), John Van Brill (157) and Joseph Grello (174) all collecting runner-up performances after advancing to their respective title bouts. No. 2 Nick Suriano (125) also captured an individual win against the Buckeyes, who feature 10 wrestlers within the Top 15 of their weight class. DeLuca took the mat against No. 5 Ke-Shawn Hayes. Hayes led DeLuca, 5-0, midway through the third period before DeLuca connected on a six-point throw to make it 6-5. Hayes escaped to tie the match, but DeLuca added another throw in the closing seconds to secure the 12-7 decision. Hayes entered the match with a 17-1 record and a 6-0 mark in dual 4

5 action this season. Lewis closed out the dual with No. 11 Te Shan Campbell, a two-time NCAA qualifier. Tied 1-1 with Campbell in the third period, Lewis landed a takedown with 35 seconds left for a 3-1 advantage. His takedown at the end of the period made it a 5-2 decision over Campbell, who was 13-2 and 5-0 in dual action heading into Sunday. DELUCA NAMED NCAA WRESTLER OF THE WEEK Eleazar DeLuca (149) was named NCAA Wrestler of the Week, claiming 41-percent of all votes from the NCAA Wrestling Twitter poll on Jan. 10. The redshirt senior earned the designation after he registered a come-from-behind victory over Ohio State s No. 5 Ke-Shawn Hayes on Sunday at the RAC. DUAL WITH NO. 1 PENN STATE SOLD OUT Rutgers Athletics announced that No. 16 Rutgers wrestling s Big Ten Conference dual with No. 1 Penn State at the RAC on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. is sold out to the general public. The sellout marks the first for the program at the RAC in its history. In its first dual match at the RAC this season against then No. 7 Iowa on Dec. 8, Rutgers wrestled in front of a program-record 6,754 fans. #RUWR SECOND AT MIDLANDS CHAMPS BEHIND SURIANO S TITLE In an iconic night for the program, No. 17 Rutgers wrestling finished second at the 55th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships from Dec in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Nick Suriano (125) became the first individual champion ever for the Scarlet Knights at the tournament, while Scott DelVecchio (133), John Van Brill (157) and Richie Lewis (165) recorded third-place results and Nicholas Gravina (184) finished sixth to help RU secure its best team result in program history. In total, Rutgers collected 16 bonus-point victories seven pins, five major decisions and four tech falls and defeated six ranked Intermat foes at the Midwest tournament. In his five matches, Suriano outscored his opponents, 55-16, with two tech falls and two decisions to lead Rutgers with 24 team points during the two-day tournament. #RUWR FALLS TO NO. 7 IOWA IN FRONT OF RECORD CROWD In front of a record crowd of 6,754 fans, No. 16 Rutgers wrestling was edged by No. 7 Iowa, 23-15, on Dec. 8 at the RAC. Suriano has outscored his opponents, , with three tech falls, two major decisions and two decisions in his first seven dual matches at RU. Overall, Suriano has outscored his opponents, , in his first 16 matches of LEWIS CLAIMS GOLD AT U23 WORLD S Redshirt senior Richie Lewis captured the 70kg freestyle gold medal at the U23 World Championships this Sunday in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Lewis defeated Kumar Vinod (India) by decision, 3-1, in the title bout to secure his first international championship. The 70kg gold medal capped an impressive championships run for Lewis, who was competing in his first international tournament of his career and finished U23 s a perfect 5-0. In his five matches, Lewis outscored his opponents, 45-11, with three decisions and two tech falls. CORRENTI FINISHES SECOND AT WILKES Redshirt freshman Matthew Correnti finished runner-up at heavyweight to highlight action for No. 17 Rutgers wrestling at the 85th annual Wilkes Open in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on Dec. 22. In total, six Scarlet Knights placed at the tournament wrestling unattached. Correnti finished 4-1 at the event, which included three consecutive pins to start the tournament. In his semifinal bout with Brett Dempsey (American), Correnti recorded a takedown in the first period, an escape in the second and added the riding time point for a 4-0 victory. Dempsey is currently ranked as the No. 22 heavyweight nationally by TrackWrestling. com. Correnti took a medical forfeit in the finals to finish second in his weight class. TOUGH RESULT AT THE HAVEN Despite wins in five individual matches, then-no. 11 Rutgers wrestling fell to Lock Haven, 22-16, on Dec. 1 at a sold-out Thomas Fieldhouse. Tied heading into the final match of the night at heavyweight, Haven s No. 15 Thomas Haines recorded a pin to secure the dual victory for the Bald Eagles. 125-pounder Nick Suriano registered his first major decision of the dual season, while 133-pounder Scott DelVecchio, 174-pounder Joseph Grello, Jordan Pagano (184 pounds) and Nicholas Gravina (197 5

6 pounds) all picked up decisions. Gravina and Pagano both wrestled up a weight class last Friday night. PAGANO CAPTURES TITLE AT MAT-TOWN OPEN Jordan Pagano secured the 174-pound title wrestling unattached for Rutgers at the 12th annual Mat-Town Open on Nov. 26 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Pagano went 3-0 at the tournament, which included a 7-0 decision over Jared Siegrist (Lock Haven) to win his bracket. SURIANO, GRELLO CLAIM BLACK KNIGHT TITLES 125-pounder Nick Suriano and 174-pounder Joseph Grello captured individual titles at the Black Knight Invitational, hosted by Army, on Nov. 19 in West Point, New York. In total, 12 of 14 Scarlet Knights placed in their respective weight classes at the tournament. Along with Suriano and Grello s individual championships, the RU finished the invite with two runner-ups 174-pounder Jordan Pagano and heavyweight Razohnn Gross and two third-place finishers in 141-pounder Michael Van Brill and 197-pounder Kevin Mulligan. JOURNEYMEN DUALS SWEEP Rutgers earned a pair of victories over No. 19 Oklahoma (22-9) and Virginia (21-9) on Nov. 11 at the 2017 Journeymen Northeast Duals in Clifton Park, New York. In total, the Scarlet Knights secured 14 of 20 possible individual bouts last weekend. Redshirt senior 149-pounder Eleazar DeLuca, sophomore 125-pounder Nick Suriano and redshirt freshman Michael Van Brill all picked up decisions over ranked foes. Six RU grapplers DeLuca, Suriano, Van Brill, redshirt senior 133-pounder Scott DelVecchio, redshirt senior 184-pounder Nicholas Gravina and senior heavyweight Razohnn Gross picked up multiples wins during the duals. GROSS SHINES AT JOURNEYMEN CLASSIC Razohnn Gross went 3-0 at the Journeymen Classic in Troy, New York on Nov. 12. The senior defeated Virginia s Robert Scherer, 7-4, to complete his perfect weekend. Gross now leads RU in wins with five this season. Four other Scarlet Knights - Alex Mackall (133), Peter Lipari (141), Willie Scott (174) and Kevin Mulligan (197) - competed in the tournament. SEVEN PLACE AT ESU OPEN Ten Scarlet Knights wrestled unattached at the 51st Annual East Stroudsburg University Open on Nov. 12. RU left the tournament with seven placewinners in 133-pound runner-up Zach Firestone, 141-pound runner up Robert Cleary, 149-pound runner up Nick Santos, 125-pound third-place finisher Shane Metzler, 133-pound third-place finisher Kyle DiNapoli and heavyweight third-place finishers Matthew Correnti and Ralph Normandia. LIGHTWEIGHT DOMINANCE In Rutgers first three duals of the season, RU s first four weights (Suriano -125, DelVecchio -133, Michael Van Brill -141, DeLuca -149) combined for a 11-1 record and 3-1 mark against ranked foes. The quartet has outscored its opponents, , against Maryland, No. 19 Oklahoma and Virginia. A RETURN TO THE BIRTHPLACE For the second consecutive season, Rutgers hosted a dual match outside at High Point Solutions Stadium, as the Scarlet Knights defeated Maryland, 27-9, on Nov. 4. RU had seven individual victories against the Terrapins, including tech falls from Nick Suriano and John Van Brill, and major decisions from Richie Lewis and Kevin Mulligan. Dubbed the Battle at the Birthplace last season, the Scarlet Knights defeated Princeton, 19-16, in front of 16,178 at HPSS. The event drew the second-highest crowd in NCAA dual history RECRUITING CLASS SIGNED Rutgers wrestling head coach Scott Goodale introduced five wrestlers Nicolas Aguilar, Jake Benner, Billy Janzer, Kyle Lighter and Malcolm Robinson who all signed National Letters of Intent (NLI s) to compete for the Scarlet Knights beginning in the fall of Janzer (No. 5, 182 lbs), Robinson (No. 7, 145 lbs), Aguilar (No. 9, 120 lbs), and Benner (No. 18, 145 lbs) are all rated within the top 20 of their respective weight classes, according to Intermat. Benner, Janzer and Lightner all collected NJSIAA state titles in BEST FOOT FORWARD Rutgers has won 10 consecutive duals to open a season. SAM CALI $100K SEASON TICKET CHALLENGE Rutgers wrestling sold 2,000 season tickets for , reaching its goal in memory of Sam Cali, a Scarlet Knight wrestler who passed away last summer. An anonymous donor will now donate $100,000 back to the program towards the naming of a Rutgers wrestling assistant coach s office at the new RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center in Cali s honor. This marks the third-straight year Rutgers wrestling has sold the most season tickets in program history, surpassing the 1,000 season tickets sold mark in each of the last three seasons. 6

7 HISTORIC HOME SLATE Rutgers will host USA Today/NWCA preseason No. 1 Penn State, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 6 Minnesota, No. 7 Iowa and No. 22 North Carolina this season at the RAC. Those five programs produced 41 NCAA qualifiers, 21 All-Americans, 10 championship finalists and seven NCAA individual champions last season. NO. 12 PRESEASON RANKING For the second consecutive year, Rutgers wrestling is the No. 12 team in the nation, according to the USA Today/National Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I Preseason Coaches Poll, released Tuesday afternoon. The No. 12 position to begin a season ties the highest ranking in program history, as the Scarlet Knights also appeared at No. 12 to start RU (12-5, 6-3) closed out last season tied for 12th in the final NWCA Coaches Poll, as the program recorded a 6-3 mark in Big Ten Conference action. The six Big Ten victories were the most for Rutgers since it joined the conference in 2014, while the Scarlet Knights also finished a perfect 6-0 at the RAC last season. WELCOME HOME, NICK SURIANO 125-pounder Nick Suriano, who competed last season at Penn State, enrolled at Rutgers University as a transfer student on Sept. 6. Suriano is immediately eligible to participate in for Rutgers wrestling, and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. Competing at 125 pounds, Suriano finished 16-3 as a true freshman for the Nittany Lions in , which included a 12-2 mark in dual action and an 8-1 record in Big Ten duals. Suriano was seeded third at the 2017 NCAA Championships in St. Louis at 125 pounds, but was unable to compete in the tournament due to injury. Two of Suriano s losses were the result of injury, while his other defeat came against Iowa s Thomas Gilman, who was the 2017 Big Ten champion and NCAA runner-up in his weight class. The Paramus, New Jersey, native enrolled at PSU after he produced one of the greatest high school careers in Garden State history. Suriano earned four NJSIAA State Championships at Bergen Catholic and finished his scholastic career a perfect Suriano was just the fourth four-time New Jersey state champion alltime and is the only wrestler in state history to match his four individual titles with four team championships. ASHNAULT SIDELINED 141-pounder Anthony Ashnault will miss the first part of the season after undergoing surgery in the offseason. Ashnault, the only three-time All- American and two-time Big Ten champion in program history, owns 91 career victories during his time in Piscataway. finished fifth overall in average home dual attendance for the season, the TheOpenMat.com announced. The Scarlet Knights concluded their home dual schedule 6-0, as the program averaged 4,706 fans per home event. RU drew the biggest dual crowd of the season nationally when it had 16,178 fans attend the Battle at the Birthplace at High Point Solutions Stadium last November against Princeton. It was also the second-biggest crowd in NCAA dual history. Rutgers finished within the top-six in home attendance for the third-straight season, with only Iowa (1st - 9,860), Penn State (2nd ), Ohio State (3rd ), and Oklahoma State (4th ) drawing more. In total, 28,236 fans watched Rutgers wrestle in Piscataway in AS SEEN ON TV Rutgers wrestling is set to appear in two nationally televised matches this season, which will both take place at the RAC. JERSEY STRONG 89 percent (26 of 29) of RU s roster hails from the Garden State. Eight of Rutgers 10 starters against Maryland in its season opener are New Jersey natives. 14 Eleventh-year head coach Scott Goodale has brought the Scarlet Knights to the forefront of collegiate wrestling in his tenure On the Banks. After dominating at the high school ranks at Jackson Memorial, Goodale, joined by assistant coach John Leonardis, took over Rutgers wrestling in with a new vision for the program. Over the past four seasons, Rutgers has achieved six All-Americans. Since 2009, RU has earned two top-10 finishes and six top-25 finishes in the USA Today/ NWCA Division I Coaches Poll. Under Goodale s watch, RU has produced six All-Americans, three conference champions (Two Big Ten, One EIWA), 58 NCAA Championship bids, 18 Big Ten Conference Championships placewinners and 42 placewinners at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships. The program has tallied an impressive record during his first 10 years On the Banks. Rutgers has had All-Americans in each of the last four seasons, as Anthony Ashnault (141) became the first three time All-American in program history when he finished sixth at the 2017 national championships in St. Louis. Ken Theobold also appeared on the podium at 149 in 2017, giving the program back-to-back seasons with two or more All-Americans for the first time ever. In 2014, the program earned its first All-American since 2002, as 157-pounder Anthony Perrotti finished eighth at NCAAs. Perrotti closed his career on the national podium at 165 pounds in 2016 in front of a local crowd at MSG, becoming the third two-time All-American in RU history. The six conference wins were the most since Rutgers joined the league in 2014, while RU concluded its dual season ranked within the top-25 for the sixth time during Goodale s tenure. Rutgers also hosted the historic Battle at the Birthplace this past season, in which it defeated rival Princeton, 19-16, in front of 16,178 fans at High Point Solutions Stadium on Nov. 19, The event drew the second-highest crowd in NCAA dual history. The season was undeniably the most successful in Rutgers wrestling history. The Scarlet Knights sent all 10 weight classes to the NCAA Championships for the first time and finished 15th in the nation. Ashnault won the Big Ten title at 141 pounds to become Rutgers first ever Big Ten champ, as the squad wrestled to a fifth-place finish at the 2016 Big Ten Championships. RU (16-5) closed the dual season ranked No. 10 in the final USA Today/ NWCA Coaches Poll, defeating seven ranked opponents and three in the top-10, culminating with an win over No. 7 Lehigh in the NWCA National Duals Championship Series. Rutgers national prominence soared to new heights in in its first season in the Big Ten Conference. The Scarlet Knights tallied a new single-season attendance mark and posted the sixth-best attendance total (18,877) and average (2,697) in the nation, according to a report released Roby Publishing. RU ended its inaugural Big Ten Conference campaign No. 21 in the nation in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll after a 14-7 campaign that featured a pair of ranked wins and five NCAA Championships selections. Goodale had his first grappler breakthrough on the national scene in , as 157-pounder Anthony Perrotti became the program s first All-American wrestler since 2002 by placing eighth at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City. Perrotti made NCAA Championships history on his consolation run, recording the second-fastest win by fall all-time at the national tournament with a 10-second pin over Oregon State s Roger Pena. After dropping his first match of the tournament, Perrotti rattled off four consecutive victories, including three in a row against top-15 opponents. In RU s (11-5, 7-2) final season in the EIWA before joining the Big Ten Conference, the squad finished third with 91 points at the 2014 EIWA Championships in Philadelphia. Three Scarlet Knights received automatic bids to nationals, while an additional at-large selection gave Goodale at least four NCAA qualifiers in five of his first seven seasons On the Banks. In total, five Scarlet Knights represented RU at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. Rutgers additionally played host to one of four regional sites of the 2012 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals, continuing to boost the Scarlet Knight grapplers national prominence. Rutgers finished at No. 22 in the final NWCA/USA Today Division I Team Coaches Poll after posting a record. Seven Scarlet Knights earned NCAA bids. The No. 22 ranking was the highest in school history at that point. The Goodale-led squad put together a 15-match unbeaten streak from early December to late February which was the longest streak in school history. In , Rutgers broke the then-school record for victories in a single season with a 20-7 mark in dual action. Goodale maximized his strong high school coaching background and brought in a recruiting class ranked nationally by W.I.N. Magazine (No. 3) and InterMat (No. 4). Goodale s first recruiting class included InterMat s No. 2 overall senior recruit in Scott Winston, InterMat s 17th-best recruit in Trevor Melde and USA Wrestling s 19th-best 171-pound wrestler in Dan Rinaldi. Goodale was a three-time New Jersey Coach of the Year at Jackson Memorial High School in Jackson, N.J., before becoming the sixth coach in Rutgers wrestling history. The Jackson, N.J., native took over the Rutgers program following an impressive seven-year stint as head coach at his alma mater, Jackson Memorial High School. In seven seasons, Goodale compiled an overall record of , leading his squad to the top ranking in the state in 2006 and The legendary Jersey high school wrestling coach was inducted into the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame on Nov. 7, Goodale was named the New Jersey State Coach of the Year three times, while also earning District 21 and Region VI Coach of the Year accolades three times during his tenure with the Jaguars. Goodale coached four New Jersey State Champions and five New Jersey State runner-ups, along with 16 additional state placewinners. In total, he has coached a total of 41 District 21 Champions and 10 Region VI Champions. Goodale led his teams to two Group IV State Championships, as well as four Central Jersey Group IV Sectional titles. Each season Goodale spent with Jackson Memorial, the Jaguars were crowned District 21 Team Champions, as well as winning four Class A-South Shore Conference titles. During the season, the Jaguars finished ranked No. 10 in the country. The following year, Goodale and the Jaguars improved that performance, finishing the year ranked seventh nationally. In every year Goodale was at Jackson Memorial, he led his team to a top-10 finish in the New Jersey wrestling polls. Prior to being named head coach at Jackson Memorial, Goodale served as a top assistant for the wrestling program, while also working as the offensive coordinator for the football team. During his time with the Jaguars football squad, he was a part of three state championship teams. On a national level, he spent 12 years as the Junior and Cadet State Team Coach for national wrestling tournaments held in Fargo, N.D. Following the season, he served as the head coach for Team New Jersey at the Junior National Duals. Goodale wrestled for Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, earning his bachelor s degree in Health and Physical Education in He then went to New Jersey City University where he earned a certification in Special Education in As a collegiate wrestler, Goodale made three trips to the NCAA Championships, as well as placing second at the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Tournament twice in his career. 16 COACHING STAFF Associate Head Coach Donny Pritzlaff Associate head coach Donny Pritzlaff, a two-time national champion, world medalist, and Big Ten Conference veteran as a coach and wrestler, enters his fourth season with Rutgers wrestling in Pritzlaff arrived at RU before its inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference and has helped usher in a new era for the program. Five All- America honors were achieved over his first three seasons. In , the Scarlet Knights finished in the top-25 of the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll for the sixth time since level. A decorated collegiate and freestyle wrestler, Pritzlaff owns more than 11 years of collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA Division I Prior to Rutgers, the Lyndhurst, N.J., native spent three seasons at the University of Michigan ( ) as an assistant wrestling coach after spending five years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as the associate head wrestling coach. Pritzlaff mentored four Wolverine All-Americans in his time in Ann Arbor, Mich., working closely with Kellen Russell, who captured his second NCAA title and fourth Big Ten title to finish a stellar collegiate career in Russell became just the 11th four-time Big Ten Champion in league history. Two Wolverine grapplers reached the national podium in 2014, as Pritzlaff and the staff helped lead Michigan to a 17th-place finish at NCAAs in Oklahoma City. An experienced recruiter, Pritzlaff has done nothing short of drawing top talent, securing a top-10 recruiting class in 2012 ranked No. 5 by The Open Mat, No. 7 by InterMat and No. 8 by W.I.N. Magazine. Prior to arriving at Michigan, Pritzlaff served five seasons as an assistant coach at Wisconsin ( ), including the last two as associate head coach. He helped lead the Badgers to top-10 team finishes at the NCAA Championships in each of the last three seasons, including a fourth-place finish in Pritzlaff was instrumental in developing the Badger middleweight wrestlers, battle-testing notable performers under his tutelage such as NCAA champion and threetime All-American Andrew Howe, NCAA finalist Craig Henning and All-Americans Tyler Turner, Zach Tanelli and Kyle Ruschell. In all, 36 Badgers qualified for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in his tenure, a list that included 15 All-Americans, five Big Ten Champions and 19 Academic All-Big Ten members. As Wisconsin s recruiting coordinator, Pritzlaff also oversaw and contributed to the development of the program s future. He helped rally three top-20 recruiting classes according to InterMat, including the nation s No. 2 class in 2008 and the No. 4 class in Pritzlaff previously served as an assistant coach at Hofstra University ( ) and as a volunteer assistant at Wisconsin ( ). While at Hofstra, Pritzlaff worked with three-time All-American Jon Masa and two-time All-Americans Mike Patrovich and Chris Skretkowicz, helping guide the Pride to three-straight Colonial Athletic Association titles and an 11th-place NCAA finish in As a collegiate wrestler at Wisconsin ( ), Pritzlaff compiled one of the most impressive careers in the program s history. Pritzlaff was a two-time NCAA 165-pound champion (2000, 2001) and four-time NCAA All-American, placing fifth as a junior at 165 pounds in 1999 and sixth as a freshman at 150 pounds in He became the 12th NCAA champion in Badger program history with a 4-2 sudden-victory decision over Iowa State s Joe Heskett in the championship final. The following season, he again used an overtime takedown to edge Heskett, 3-1, en route to his second-straight NCAA title, becoming Wisconsin s fourth multiple champion and one of just three four-time All-Americans in program history. A 2001 NWCA All-Star selection, Pritzlaff claimed three-straight Big Ten Conference 165-pound titles ( ). He posted a career collegiate record, including a 43-1 mark as a senior, ranking fourth among Wisconsin s all-time winningest wrestlers. His.894 career winning percentage ranks third in Badger program history. Pritzlaff was inducted into the University of Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame in Pritzlaff s success continued on the international scene, as the experienced grappler completed a successful eight-year career in the 74 kg/163-pound freestyle division. He captured the bronze medal at the 2006 World Championships and earned medals at the Pan American Championships (silver, 2006), New York Athletic Club Holiday International Open (gold, 2001; silver, 2005; bronze, 2002, 03, 04), Henri Deglane Challenge (bronze, 2002), Dave Schultz Memorial International (gold, 2002, 05) and Sunkist Kids International Open (gold, 2002; silver, 2004). While in college, Pritzlaff captured the 1998 Junior World championship at 70 kg. In Pollard s time at Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights have produced six All-Americans, three conference champions, 46 NCAA Championship bids, 18 Big Ten Conference Championship placewinners, and 28 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA)?Championships placewinners. RU set a school record in duals won (21) and tied Rutgers best total for NCAA qualifiers (eight) in Pollard joined the Scarlet Knights after spending seven seasons as an assistant coach at The College of New Jersey under legendary coach Dave Icenhower. While at TCNJ, Pollard helped the Lions reach new heights as 18 wrestlers earned All-America honors under Pollard s tutelage. For his successes at TCNJ, Pollard was named NCAA Division III National Assistant Coach of the Year in Prior to accepting the position at TCNJ, Pollard was a three-year varsity starter at Rider University.
