1 Arizona Cardinals Football Club Game Release Game #11 THIS WEEK S GAME For the fourth consecutive season, the Cardinals and 49ers meet on Monday Night Football as Arizona hosts San Francisco at University of Phoenix Stadium. The game marks the beginning of a three-game home stand for the Cards. Both teams enter the game with 3-7 records and remain two games behind Seattle (5-5) in the NFC West. The Cardinals will be looking to end their current five-game slide while the 49ers seek their fourth win in the last six games. Last week, the Cardinals fell to the Chiefs in Kansas City. Despite outgaining the Chiefs in total yardage (382 to 352), penalties and lack of third down production halted a number of Arizona scoring opportunities as they were forced to settle for FGs on their first two scoring drives. The Cards only TD came on the game s final play a 3-yard TD reception by Larry Fitzgerald. Both Fitzgerald and Breaston surpassed 90 yards receiving on the day while RBs Tim Hightower (12 for 62, 5.2 avg.) and Beanie Wells (8 for 39, 4.9 avg.) were both productive on the ground. Kansas City got two TDs each from WR Dwayne Bowe and RB Thomas Jones. San Francisco is coming off a 21-0 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers. San Francisco was shut out at home for the first time since 1977 and QB Troy Smith suffered his first loss as the 49ers starting quarterback. For Tampa Bay, QB Josh Freeman threw a pair of TD passes and Cadillac Williams provided a 6-yard TD run. The Cardinals are home against a divisional opponent next week as they host the St. Louis Rams. San Francisco travels to Green Bay. The statistical battle was much closer than the final score. However, the Cardinals were hampered by a lack of efficiency on 3 rd down (4-15), penalties (11-96) and a handful of missed opportunities. The Chiefs, who were led by former Cardinals assistant Todd Haley, improved to 6-4 with the victory in a game that featured no turnovers by either team. Arizona opened the contest by taking the opening drive and moving 51 yards to the KC25 but was forced to settle for a 36-yard Jay Feely FG that gave the visitors a 3-0 lead. After the teams traded a pair of punts, the Chiefs went ahead early in the 2 nd quarter when Matt Cassel hit Dwayne Bowe with a TD pass on 3 rd -n-goal from the one. The score was set-up when the pair connected on a 37-yard pass to the one yard line three plays earlier. The KC lead grew to 14-3 on the next Chiefs possession when RB Thomas Jones capped a 5 play, 69-yard drive with his 1-yard scoring run. It remained that way at intermission. Kansas City opened the 2 nd half with another long scoring drive (9 plays, 80 yards) and Jones picked up his rushing 2 nd TD of the afternoon with a 3-yard run. Arizona s next drive reached the KC11 but again resulted in a Feely FG, this one a 29-yarder that made it 21-6 with 4:55 remaining in the 3 rd quarter. The AZ defense sent the Chiefs 3-n-out on the next two drives but offensively the Cards could not cut into the lead. With 8:12 to play, Ryan Succop s 23-yard FG extended the KC advantage to The next drive saw the Cards turn it over on downs when they couldn t convert a 4 th -n-1 from their own 43 but the defense appeared to have the game s first takeway on a Jamaal Charles fumble. However, KC successfully challenged that he was down by contact. On the next play after the reversal, Cassel hit Bowe with a 38-yard scoring pass. Arizona did not give up and closed the game with a 14-play, 83-yard drive that culminated in a Derek Anderson TD pass to Larry Fitzgerald. CARDINALS CHIEFS Team Qtr. Prior to that, Breaston s previous career-high was 132 yards, established in week one of 2010 at St. Louis. In addition to his two 100-yard games this season, Breaston has posted 98 and 92 yards receiving in the last two games. Breaston 2010 Notes Has at least 92 yards receiving in four of seven games played. In the game against the Bucs, Breaston had three receptions of 30+ yards, catching passes of 33, 37 and 36 yards. Breaston has six of the Cardinals 10 receptions of 30+ yards this season. After recording 100 receiving yards in a game just three times in his first 51 career games (including postseason), Breaston has three 100-yard performances in his last nine games dating back to the Cardinals Wild Card matchup vs. Green Bay. In addition to his 147 yards receiving, Breaston added a 14- yard run on a reverse against the Bucs. It was the eighth rushing attempt of his career, good for 84 rushing yards. Threw his first NFL pass in week nine against Minnesota, a 17-yard strike to TE Jim Dray. IN THE LAST FOUR In the last four weeks, WRs Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston have been two of the NFL s most prolific receivers and Breaston has been one of the NFL s premiere big-play threats. In the four games since returning from the knee injury that sidelined him for three games, Breaston has totaled 20 receptions for 365 yards, including an NFL-high six receptions of 25+ yards. Fitzgerald has hauled in 26 receptions for 360 yards and three TDs, averaging 6.5 receptions and 90.0 yards per contest. Breaston s 365 receiving yards over the last four games rank as the third highest total in the NFL over that span while Fitzgerald s 360 yards have him ranked fourth. 7 CARDS UNDER THE WHIZ Head coach Ken Whisenhunt has had an impressive run in his first three-plus seasons with the Cardinals, earning him a four-year contract extension with a team option for a fifth. Including the postseason, Arizona has posted 34 wins under Whisenhunt, the fourth-highest total among head coaches in franchise history. In becoming one of the NFL s top head coaches, Whisenhunt has put together an impressive list of achievements in his first three-plus seasons: The Cardinals earned NFC West titles in 2008 and 09, earning their first back-to-back division titles since Another NFC West title in 2010 would give the franchise an unprecedented third consecutive division crown. Arizona s win over Green Bay in the 2009 Wild Card matchup gave the Cardinals wins in the postseason in backto-back years for the first time in franchise history. The Cardinals have won twice as many playoffs games under Whisenhunt (4) as they had won in their total playoff history (2) entering his tenure. Under Whisenhunt, the Cardinals have appeared in six playoff contests between , after appearing in seven total postseason games in the franchise s history prior to his arrival. Arizona finished with a 10-6 record in 09, giving the Cardinals 10+ wins in the regular season for the first time since 1976 (10-4). Whisenhunt is the first head coach in franchise history with a.500 record or better in each of his first three seasons. The Cardinals were 8-8 in 2007, 9-7 in 2008 and 10-6 this season. If the Cardinals post a record of.500 or better in 2010, Whisenhunt will join Don Coryell ( ) as the only head coaches in franchise history with a.500 record or better in four consecutive seasons. The Cardinals finished with a 4-4 record at University of Phoenix Stadium in 09, making Whisenhunt the first Cardinals coach to post a.500 record or better at home in three straight seasons since Don Coryell posted four consecutive seasons above.500 between Whisenhunt is the first head coach since Charley Winner ( ) to post a.500 record or better at home in each of his first three seasons. The Cardinals started the 2009 season with a 5-0 record on the road for the first time since The Cardinals have posted a 14-7 record against NFC West opponents under Whisenhunt. Led the Cardinals to the NFC West title in 2008, their first division title since Led the Cardinals to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance in 2008 and more wins in a single season (12) than any coach in franchise history. The Cardinals win over the Atlanta Falcons in the 2008 Wild Card Game was the first home playoff victory in 61 years. With the win over Seattle in the 2008 regular season finale, the Cardinals finished the 2008 regular season with a 9-7 record, matching their best regular season record since the franchise moved to Arizona in With the Cardinals win over Oakland in week three of 10 at University of Phoenix Stadium, the team improved to 6-1 at home against teams from the AFC. With a 3-7 record this season, the Cards are just two games back of Seattle in the NFC West with six games (four at home) remaining. CHASING WINNER Ken Whisenhunt has 34 victories (regular and postseason) as the Cardinals head coach. That total is good for fourth-place on the franchise career wins list. With 34 wins, Whisenhunt needs one more to tie Charlie Winner for the third-most wins by head coach in franchise history. Most Wins By A Cardinals Head Coach Wins Coach (Years) 42 Don Coryell ( ) 39 Jim Hanifan ( ) 35 Charley Winner ( ) 34 Ken Whisenhunt (2007-present) 29 Vince Tobin ( ) With nine wins in 2010, Whisenhunt would become just the fourth head coach in franchise history to post three consecutive seasons with a winning record. The extension keeps Graves in Arizona through the 2013 season. The most significant tool used by Graves to assemble Arizona s roster has been the NFL Draft. Arizona currently has 24 players on the 53-man roster that were drafted by the Cardinals. Recent drafts have not only produced Pro Bowlers in Larry Fitzgerald, Adrian Wilson, Darnell Dockett and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but also scores of other full-time starters and contributors. Of the 22 starters on both sides of the ball, 13 were either drafted by the Cardinals or signed by the team as rookie free agents. Rookie free agents are another area of success for the Cardinals under Graves watch. The Cardinals current 53-man roster includes seven players that originally entered the league when Arizona signed them as rookie free agents. The 2010 rookie class alone consists of three free agents. Graves has made it clear that the organization wants to identify a core group of players to build the team around and keep that core intact. Wilson (2004, 2009), Dockett (2006, 2009), Gerald Hayes (2006), and Fitzgerald (2008) have all signed contract extensions. Dockett signed his second, and most recent, contract extension with the Cards on 9/1/10. Cardinals vs. 49ers 7 of 39

Under NFL rules, teams are permitted to wear their alternate uniform as many as three times per season once in the preseason and twice in the regular season (not permitted in the postseason). NEXT WEEK On Dec. 5 the Cardinals will host St. Louis in the second of three consecutive home games at University of Phoenix Stadium. Arizona defeated St. Louis in week one at the Edward Jones Dome. 9 THE RETURN MAN RB LaRod Stephens-Howling made franchise history with his 96-yard KOR TD in week nine against Minnesota, his second KOR TD of the season and third of his career. The first Cardinals kickoff return of every home game is billed as the Lennar Take it the House Kickoff. If the Cards return that kickoff for a TD, one selected registrant will win a brand new home, courtesy of Lennar. Johnson, along with numerous Lennar representatives, were at the Cards facility on Wednesday (9/29) for a meet-and-greet with Stephens-Howling. I wish I could win a house for somebody every time I touched the ball, but that is great, Stephens-Howling said after making Johnson the first-ever winner of the contest. That is amazing. BIG CONTRIBUTIONS Second-year RB LaRod Stephens Howling was one of the league s most dynamic special teams performers as a rookie in This season, the 5-7, 185-pound back is again filling that role, having produced a number of big kickoff returns and providing coverage. He has tied the franchise record with two KOR TDs this season and he also has an NFL-high 1,112 KOR yards in 10. In addition to his role on special teams, Stephens-Howling has also been a bigger part of the Cards offense in Through his first nine games, he has totaled 17 carries for 94 yards (5.5-yard avg.) and a TD. He has also added 11 receptions for 85 yards. That marks a significant jump in production on offense compared to his rookie campaign in 09. Last year, Stephens-Howling totaled six rushing attempts for 15 yards and had 10 receptions for 83 yards on the season. Against the Buccaneers in week eight, Stephens-Howling had a career game as a RB. He totaled four carries for 41 yards (10.3-yard avg.), including a 30-yard TD run in the third quarter. The 30-yard run marked his first career rushing TD and the longest run of his career. ONE OF FIVE OVER 1,000 During the offseason, the Cardinals signed K Jay Feely to a two-year contract, bringing in one of the five NFL players who have eclipsed 1,000 points since 2001, the year Feely entered the league. Feely has tallied 1,067 points, the second-highest total in the league dating back to 01 behind only Eagles kicker David Akers (1,138). Feely joins Akers, former Broncos and Falcons kicker Jason Elam, Minnesota s Ryan Longwell and Indy s Adam Vinatieri as the only NFL players with 1,000+ points in that span. His only miss of the season was a 54-yarder in week two at Atlanta. Feely s 91.7 FG percentage is the second-best in the NFL. Only Tennessee s Rob Bironas (95.0%) has a better FG percentage than Feely this season. Feely s 29-yard FG last week against the Chiefs (his second of the day) was his 10th consecutive FG made this season, tying Al Del Greco (1989) and Jim Bakken (1975, ) for the fifth longest streak in franchise history. Feely s career notables: Has five game-winning field goals on his resume. Two have come with no time remaining in regulation and three have come in overtime. Has successfully converted 256 consecutive PATs dating back to 11/9/03 at the NY Giants. Reached the 100-point plateau in six of his nine NFL seasons and led all NFL kickers in points during the 2002 (138) and 2005 (148) seasons. Reached or topped the 80-percent mark for FG accuracy in six of his nine seasons, including each of the last five. Cardinals vs. 49ers 9 of 39
