Last year, OSU won its first 11 games to open. The Cowgirls won their first eight contests to begin the and campaigns. WELCOME ADDITION Junior college transfer Marisha Wallace was selected as the Big 12 s Preseason Newcomer of the Year as voted on by the league s head coaches. The Midwest City, Okla., native will be looking to become the third Cowgirl in the history of the league to be named its top newcomer, joining Nina Stone (2004) and Whitney Pegram (2006). NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS The Cowgirls have had considerable success over the past nine seasons at home against non-conference foes. During that span, OSU has posted an 80-4 mark and has gone undefeated seven times. The Cowgirls had a 48-game non-conference winning streak, which came to an end in 2010 against No. 5 Duke. OSU has currently won 32 consecutive games at home against non-league foes. Year Record Noteworthy Average margin of victory was Extended non-league home win streak to All six WNIT wins came at home Lone loss was to No. 5 Duke Started 0-3 before winning the last five SWISS ARMY KNIFE Sophomore Brittney Martin has proven to be as versatile as the multi-tool knife since her arrival. She ranked in the top five among league freshmen in points, rebounds, steals, blocks and assists a year ago. This season, she ranks among the top 20 in the Big 12 in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals. RANDOM FUN FACT Since her sophomore season, Tiffany Bias has logged 25 steals on inbound plays, swiping 16 as a sophomore, seven last season and two this season. GAME-BY-GAME STARTERS SHOOTING THE LIGHTS OUT Against UMass Lowell, Brittney Martin set a new OSU single-game record for shooting accuracy, connecting on 15 of her 18 shots. Her sharpshooting set a new Cowgirl standard for a player with at least 15 attempts, surpassing Tari Cummings 14-of-18 effort on Dec. 19, 1999 at Washington. KID CLUTCH Roshunda Johnson logged a career-high 15 points against Baylor to earn her first career start at TCU. The freshman responded with 10 points and the game-winning jumper with seven seconds left. SHE S A 10 This season is the 75th for Gallagher-Iba Arena, which has served as the home for Cowgirl basketball since One of several activities to honor the historic venue will take place on Feb. 16 when Andrea Riley becomes the fourth Cowgirl to have her jersey retired. Riley s No. 10 will join Clinette Jordan (23), Stacy Coffey (30) and Liz Brown (40). WORTH THE WAIT The start of Brittany Atkins college career was delayed by a year due to injury. Despite the year off, she has shown little rust this season. Atkins has given the Cowgirls an additional offensive threat, logging four double-figure scoring outings, including five in her first seven Big 12 games. She broke into the starting lineup at Kansas State on Jan. 8. STARS AND STRIPES Brittney Martin capped a remarkable rookie season with an invite to USA Basketball s U19 World Championship Team Trials. Martin s participation marked the first by a Cowgirl at a USA Basketball event since Andrea Riley competed for the 2010 Select Team. SUPER SENIOR SUB Kendra Suttles started 12 of OSU s first 13 games before moving into a reserve role and has remained a key contributor. Against K-State, Suttles scored 11-straight points to key a second-half run in OSU s win. The senior logged a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds, in the victory at Iowa State and scored 10 points against Texas Tech. In the final two minutes of play, Bias has hit 13 of her 15 (87 percent) free throws, helping seal wins against Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Texas, Kansas State, Iowa State and TCU. She also had final-minute baskets against Tech, K-State and Iowa State. IS IT IN YOU? The Cowgirl roster is stocked with Gatorade state high school players of the year with four having earned the honor five times, collectively. Tiffany Bias was tabbed as a senior at Andover Central High School in Kansas, while Brittney Martin achieved the distinction her final year at Syracuse High in Utah. A pair of OSU freshmen have the honor to their credit as well with Lakota Beatty being named Oklahoma s top player last year while attending Anadarko High School and Katelyn Loecker receiving the honor as a junior and senior at McPherson High in Kansas. COMING INTO HER OWN It took just four games for LaShawn Jones to match her number of double-figure scoring outings from the previous two seasons combined. Shaq had three in OSU s first four games. She logged three such outings in 47 career games prior to this season. Jones also currently ranks fourth in the Big 12 in fieldgoal percentage at 57 percent. POINT OF EMPHASIS Tiffany Bias spent much of last season ranked among the nation s top 10 nationally in assists before ultimately finishing 12th. If she can finish in the top 10 this season, it would mark four out of the last six years an OSU point guard has ranked in the top 10. DIALING 911 As a sophomore, Liz Donohoe made a bit of OSU history, becoming the first Cowgirl to make at least 90 percent of her free-throw attempts. Her 91.1 percent success rate surpassed the previous school record of 89.1 percent set by Julie Moser in The Edmond, Okla., native s career percentage of.890 is also the best in school history. Two years ago, OSU won a school-record 18 home games. The Cowgirls will play at home 17 times this year and are 9-1 thus far. COWGIRLS SIGN THREE The Cowgirls signed three prep standouts to National Letters of Intent in November. A 6-3 forward from Stockton, Calif., Mandy Coleman averaged 17.2 points, 12 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.8 steals per game as a junior at McNair High. A 6-4 post player from Genoa, Neb., Kaylee Jensen averaged 24.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as a junior for Holy Family. Sydney Walton, a 5-8 guard from Perryton, Texas, was an all-state selection and district MVP this past season after averaging 22.2 points per contest. LIZSANITY FOR 1,000, PLEASE Against UMass Lowell, Liz Donohoe became OSU s 21st 1,000-point scorer. With her reaching the plateau, she gives the Cowgirls two 1,000-point scorers on the roster. Tiffany Bias hit the 1,000-point mark last season. BLAZING HER OWN TRAIL Tiffany Bias arrived in Stillwater with the unenviable task of replacing one of the best players in Big 12 history in Andrea Riley. The Andover, Kan., native has filled those shoes admirably and is on pace to pass Riley as the school s all-time leader in assists. Bias began her senior campaign with 580 for her career and needing just 127 to catch Riley. The world s oldest basketball tournament was an All-Orange doubleheader with the Cowboys taking on Louisiana Tech before the women s historic game against South Florida. IMMEDIATE SUCCESS Third-year head coach Jim Littell began his career with consecutive 20-win seasons, making him the first of OSU s seven head coaches to achieve the feat. In , he will be aiming to give OSU its third consecutive 20-win campaign since Dick Halterman posted three consecutive 20-win seasons from During that stretch, Halterman won 67 games, which stands as the winningest threeyear run in school history. Littell would equal that mark with a 24-win campaign. 20 X 3 OSU has put together consecutive 22-win seasons that resulted in a WNIT title in 2012 and a second-round NCAA Tournament berth in The Cowgirls will be looking to make a bit of history with a third consecutive 20-win campaign. The only other time in program history they have achieved the feat was a three-year stretch from THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD To say Tiffany Bias was a workhorse during the second half of her junior season would be an understatement. 7 Tiffany Bias All-America Candidate A big part of being a successful point guard isn t just wanting to be the leader, but also not buckling when that weight gets heavy. Tiffany Bias has the natural personality to lead, and she accepts the responsibility. Her game has evolved and gotten sharper, and so have her leadership skills. Mechelle Voepel, ESPN.com Tiffany Bias is a north/south point guard with 94/50 court vision. She knows the 3Ws of a point guard: who, when and where to deliver the ball. Her hoops IQ, mental prep and high level skill set allow her to play analytically and instinctively in an up tempo offense. Underestimated and underrated on the national scene, however that will change this year if you pay attention! Debbie Antonelli, National Women s Basketball Analyst Tiffany Bias uses her speed and quickness as a tenacious on-ball defender and pushing the ball in transition. Throughout her career, she has proven to be an excellent facilitator and can hit big shots from mid-range or beyond the arc. She is a fiery competitor on the court and an articulate spokesperson off the court. Brenda VanLengen, National Women s Basketball Analyst I think she is a very, very nice point guard. I think she really did a nice job of running the ball club. I think they would have problems winning if they didn t have her. From that standpoint, I would say she was probably the most valuable player on the court. Hall of Fame Coach Eddie Sutton I thought Tiffany Bias was probably the difference in the game. She knows the answers that point guards are supposed to know. Who to get the ball to at the right time, when to take shots at the right time. She s a playmaker. I think the significant thing with her is she knows how to read defenses and when to take a particular shot. That puts a lot of heat on your defense all the time. She puts pressure on your defense every single possession. Texas Head Coach Karen Aston I think they have great presence up top with Bias. I think her and Smalls are two of the most fun young point guards to watch in the league, as far as their pressure up top. Alabama Head Coach Kristy Curry I really felt like she was the key tonight for us to control. We couldn t have her passes lead to eight assists tonight. I was concerned about her coming in. She s one of my favorite players to watch in the league. TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie She s a great player. I told her that after the game. After watching film, I thought, She s one of the best point guards in the country. West Virginia Head Coach Mike Carey She is really just a tough kid to guard because of the repertoire of skills that she brings to the floor. Kansas State Head Coach Deb Patterson She s a great player. She s a kid that does everything for their team. She s the person that handles the ball, she never takes a bad shot. She s quicker than quick, so she s hard to stay in front of. She s an All-Big 12-caliber player and everyone knows it. There s a reason she s the No. 1 player on the scouting report. I love watching her play, except when I play against her. The kid can play the game and she does it the right way. She leads her team. You can tell her teammates trust her; the coaches do. She very rarely makes a bad decision. Exactly what you want. I am so impressed by the way she does things and she has been doing that for a long time. I think the rise of their program recently really correlates to her growth as a player and as a person. I am just very impressed. Iowa State Head Coach Bill Fennelly She s a good point guard. She drives it to the hole. She s very fast. She s bouncy. We d stop her, but then she d get it to the open guy. She just pushed. Former Kansas Guard Angel Goodrich Bias was probably the best point guard we ve played against all year. James Madison Head Coach Kenny Brooks
