WHAT 2 WATCH 4 Oklahoma State s women s basketball team will put its four-game winning streak on the line on Wednesday when it heads to Norman, Okla., to face in-state rival Oklahoma at 7 p.m. OSU has shot 50 percent from the floor in its last three outings. The Cowgirls have held seven of their last 10 opponents under 50 points. OSU has held six of its nine Big 12 opponents under 50 points thus far, surpassing its total of five for its entire conference slate a year ago. OSU has held its opponents to single-digit point totals in 11 quarters, including eight in Big 12 play. Brittney Martin enters play having logged doubledoubles in each of the squad s last six games. Brittney Martin ranks as the nation s No. 13 scorer at 21.3 points per game, while Roddricka Patton ranks second with her 7.7 assists per game. Martin ranks 20th nationally with her 2.9 steals per contest and is 15th with her 11.0 boards per game. Martin enters play as the league s leader in scoring, rebounding and steals. Martin is four rebounds away from becoming the fourth player in program history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during her career. Patton has recorded double-digit assist totals in each of the past three games, tallying a total of 37. OSU has had at least 20 assists in each if its past four games, tallying 90 on 120 field goals during that span. KNOW THE FOE The Sooners have won two in a row after picking up a road win at Iowa State on Jan. 30. OU is 8-1 at home this season with its lone loss coming against North Texas on Nov. 16. Kaylon Williams is 10th in the league in scoring (13.8 ppg), sixth in rebounding (8.0 rpg) and sixth in field goal percentage (.558). OSU VS. OU... THE SERIES OU Leads the overall series by a count. The Cowgirls took the first meeting this year, picking up a win on Jan. 16 in Stillwater. The Cowgirls last win in Norman came on Feb. 7, 1998, a victory. LAST TIME OUT The Cowgirls snapped a two-game losing streak against TCU and moved to 7-4 in the all-time series with the Horned Frogs. The Cowgirls dished out 23 assists on 32 made field goals against TCU, giving them their fourth consecutive game with more than 20 assists. A LEAGUE OF HER OWN Brittney Martin ranks first among current active leaders nationally with 312 career steals. Martin s 2.66 steals per game average for her career ranks seventh nationally among active players, her 969 boards rank 10th, her 29 double-doubles rank 24th and her 1,533 points are 38th. Martin currently leads the Big 12 in scoring at 21.4 points per game, is first in rebounding at 11.1 boards per game, first in steals at 2.9 per contest and ninth with her 1.2 blocks per game. NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS The Cowgirls have had considerable success over the past decade-plus at home against non-conference foes. During that span, OSU has posted an 96-4 mark and has gone undefeated nine times. The Cowgirls had a 47-game non-conference winning streak, which came to an end in 2010 against No. 5 Duke. Since that time, the Cowgirls have reeled off 48 consecutive non-conference wins inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. Year Record Noteworthy wins in a row is the second-longest current streak Fourth undefeated non-league home slate in a row Average margin of victory was Extended non-league home win streak to All six WNIT wins came at home Lone loss was to No. 5 Duke Started 0-3 before winning the last five MARCH MADNESS The Cowgirls are in the midst of a program-record nine consecutive postseason appearances. That string is comprised of six NCAA Tournament berths (2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015) and three WNIT appearances (2009, 2011, 2012). In 2012, the Cowgirls won their first WNIT title. This season marks three consecutive NCAA trips for the first time for OSU since a four-year run from If OSU can secure an NCAA berth this season, it would mark just the second time in program history the Cowgirls have made four NCAA appearances in a row. OSU made the NCAA field four consecutive years from THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY Kaylee Jensen is making the old-fashioned three-point play a staple of her game. MARTIN EARNS WEEKLY HONORS Brittney Martin already made program history in the season s early going. Martin was named the league s player of the week on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, marking the 10th Big 12 weekly award and fifth player of the week honor for her. Martin was named the Big 12 s player of the week for consecutive weeks, making her the first Cowgirl to do so. It is just the second time OSU has won the award backto-back weeks with Tiffany Bias and Liz Donohoe doing it in Martin picked up her third player of the week honor on Dec. 28 and her fourth at the end of January. MARTIN EARNS BIG 12 HONOR Oklahoma State senior Brittney Martin was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team with the league s announcement of its preseason women s basketball honors. The awards are chosen by the Big 12 s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. As a junior, Martin received honorable mention All- America honors, was named a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 pick, was chosen as the Big 12 Player of the Week on two occasions and was named to the league s all-defensive squad. METHOD TO THE MADNESS In its preseason list of top 44 teams, College Sports Madness picked the Cowgirls at No. 38. Additionally, the outlet picked Brittney Martin as a member of its five-player All-Big 12 first team. MARTIN NAMED TO NAISMITH LIST Brittney Martin was listed by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on the Early Season Watch List for the Naismith Trophy, which is given to the women s college player of the year. The list is comprised of 50 players and will be trimmed to 30 on Feb. 10. The semifinalists and finalists will be named in March before the winner is announced on Monday, April 4. RESUMÉ BUILDING The Cowgirls have begun building their case to secure their fourth NCAA Championship berth in a row. OSU owns a pair of wins over Top-25 foes in Baylor and Oklahoma. Baylor ranks fourth in the RPI, while OU is 20. OSU has losses against No. 9 (Texas), at No. 40 (South Florida, at No. 44 (Kansas St.) and at No. 88 (Iowa St.) The Cowgirls also have wins over No. 49 Washington St. and two victories just outside the top 100 in Nos. 104 and 114 (North Carolina, Missouri St.) MIGHTY MITE If her performance down the stretch last season is any indication, Roddricka Patton could fill the role of standout point guard that has become the norm for the OSU program since the arrival of Andrea Riley in Patton saw her first significant action in OSU s road win at Kansas, logging six assists. She made the first of 10 consecutive starts in OSU s next contest, a victory against Texas, finishing with 10 assists. She played 40 minutes and dished out 14 assists in a win at West Virginia. She finished with seven steals and six assists in OSU s Big 12 Championship win against Iowa State After scoring 34 points in the squad s first 31 games, Patton scored 23 against FGCU in the first round of the NCAA Championship. She hit five 3-pointers in the contest after entering the game 0-16 on the year. MULTI-TOOL PLAYER Brittney Martin may be the most well-rounded player in the Big 12 and she has the numbers to prove it. A year ago, she ranked in the top 10 among league players in scoring (8th), rebounding (2nd), double-doubles (7th), steals (2nd), offensive rebounds (7th) and defensive rebounds (2nd). Additionally, she ranked 11th in blocked shots and 14th in field-goal percentage. Martin was the league leader in steals as both a freshman and sophomore and was the league s second-leading rebounder as a sophomore. 4 Regardless of if she s playing the 2, 3 or 4, Brittney Martin is a threat for a double-double. A long wingspan and big hands help her harass guards on the perimeter and snatch rebounds from bigger post players. Her high release makes it tough to block or change her shot and she s particularly good when she s fading away. OSU returners combined for 45 starts a year ago with Brittney Martin accounting for 31 of those. Kaylee Jensen made one start, Roddricka Patton had 10 and Katelyn Loecker was in the starting five on three occasions. OSU won its first eight games to start both the and campaigns. The following season, the Cowgirls won their first 11 games to set a new school standard. Two years ago, OSU broke that mark after reeling off victories in its first 12 contests. Last season, the Cowgirls won 10 of their first 11 nonleague games with the lone loss coming at North Carolina. ROARING 20S The Cowgirls made history last season, posting a 20-win campaign for the fourth year in a row. The feat was the first time in program history OSU has done so and the Cowgirls 89 wins during that stretch are also the winningest four-year run in program history. The season produced a 25-win campaign as well as the program s third NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. OSU reeled off a school-record 12 consecutive wins to start the year. Coached Tiffany Bias to honorable mention All-America status. Bias went on to be drafted by the WNBA s Phoenix Mercury In , Littell guided OSU to its first NCAA Tournament berth since The Cowgirls got out of the gate quickly, starting the year with 11 consecutive victories to log what was the best start in school history at the time. Coupled with its six wins to close out 2012, Littell s squad held the nation s longest winning streak for six weeks. Littell coached Tiffany Bias and Toni Young to honorable mention All-America status, while Brittney Martin was named a freshman All-American. Community College. A 2009 inductee into the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame, Littell compiled an eye-popping set of numbers at his former post as the Lady Saints won 87 percent of their games, tallying a ledger and producing nine Jayhawk West Conference titles. A nine-time conference coach of the year, Littell was named the WBCA National Coach of the Year in His 2002 squad produced three All-Americans, a perfect 38-0 mark and the school s first-ever national championship in any sport. He was named the NJCAA National Tournament Coach of the Year that same season. Under his watch, the Lady Saints recorded seven 30-win seasons. After finishing with a record during his first season, Littell s squads never produced less than 25 wins in a season and averaged nearly 32 wins per year against less than four losses over the course of his final 13 seasons. I will be the first person to send her a graduation card and wish her nothing but the best... I would say if Brittney Martin is not unanimous first team all-conference and if she s not in the conversation for player of the year then she should be. The kid is an All-American, she s not just All-Big 12. She s done a lot of stuff for this school and she s done a lot of stuff for this league and she s done it in a classy way. That s what impresses me about her. She s a great player but she appears to be that kind of a young lady, too. Iowa State Head Coach Bill Fennelly Well, I think (Brittney) Martin proved statistically how good of a player she is. She is deserving of being on the Wade Trophy Watch List and a potential first-team All-American. (She) affects the game in so many different ways on the stat sheet, but where she affects the game even more is just in your plan, how you re going to slow her down and limit her. We just don t have someone we can guard her man-to-man with without taking one of our 4 s and match up with a little bit of size. If you do that then your 3 s have to guard their 4 s. Just not a good matchup for us. We played four different defenses trying to be disruptive in some form or fashion. Kansas Head Coach Brandon Schneider
