During that span, OSU has posted a 65-4 mark and has gone undefeated five times. The Cowgirls had a 48-game non-conference winning streak, which came to an end in 2010 against No. 5 Duke. Year Record Noteworthy All six WNIT wins came at home Lone loss was to No. 5 Duke Started 0-3 before winning the last five SEEKING SEVEN With their WNIT appearance in 2012, the Cowgirls extended their school-record string of postseason appearances to six. The run began with NCAA Tournament berths in 2007 and The 2009 campaign resulted in a WNIT appearance and was followed by another NCAA appearance in 2010 and a WNIT run in WIN CAMPAIGN OSU s victory over Colorado in the quarterfinals of the WNIT was its 20th of the season. The win marked the 11th time the Cowgirls have reached the 20-win plateau in a season. OSU tacked on two more victories and its 22 on the season is the fifth-highest total in school history. One game later, Jim Littell became the first-ever Cowgirl head coach to log 20 wins in the first year on the job. WNIT RUN OSU never trailed in the second half of any of its six WNIT contests and never trailed at any point in two of those games. The Cowgirls largest deficit was seven points and OSU only trailed for a total of 15 minutes and 44 seconds during the entire tournament. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS With its victory over James Madison, the Cowgirls became the second Big 12 school, joining Kansas State s squad, to win the Women s National Invitation Tournament. NO PLACE LIKE HOME For the third consecutive season and fourth time in the last five years, the Cowgirls set a new singleseason mark for home victories in a season with 18 a year ago. OSU set a new record in 2008 with 14 wins before tying the mark in The 2011 campaign resulted in 15 victories before the Cowgirls shattered the mark with last year s total. BACK IN BLACK For the first time since the season, the Cowgirls will have black road uniforms in the rotation. The last year OSU wore black was a significant season in the history of the program. That year, the Cowgirls posted a record, marking the largest turnaround in the nation and earned the program s first NCAA Tournament berth in 11 years. EXPERIENCE ABOUNDS Among head coach Jim Littell s priorities in the offseason was filling out his staff and, simply put, he knocked it out of the park with a pair of impressive hires. Filling his former role as associate head coach will be Candace Whitaker, a former Big 12 player who was lured away from her head coaching position at UMKC. With Bill Annan being promoted to assistant coach, Littell called upon former OSU assistant and Iowa State associate head coach Jack Easley to fill the role of director of player development. After tying the national high jump record while in high school, Young took a hiatus from the sport until last spring. In her return, sh e earned All-America status and achieving the Olympic Trials A Standard. The latter gave her the opportunity to compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic squad. GIVE AND TAKE Tiffany Bias proved to be a very generous teammate in , setting a new school record for assists in a season with 229. Her 6.7 assists per game ranked second in the Big 12 and set a new school record for assists per game by a sophomore. On the flip side, she was also one of the stingiest defenders in the Big 12, tallying 84 steals on the season to rank fourth at 2.5 per contest. CHARITY WORK Liz Donohoe made the first 21 free throws of her collegiate career and finished the year as one of the most prolific free-throw shooters in the Big 12. As a freshman, she connected on 86.6 percent of her attempts from the charity stripe, which was the second-best percentage in the league. A CENTURY S WORTH OF WORK The WNIT title game marked the 100th of senior Lindsey Keller s career. Hot on her heels is classmate Toni Young, who will enter her final campaign with 99 career games played. The duo will begin the campaign 16 and 17 games, respectively, from entering the school s all-time top 20 list for games played. THE NUMBERS GAME As a junior, Toni Young became the 19th player in school history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau for her career. She will begin her final season ranked 13th all time on the school s scoring chart and is one of just two players in school history to record 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocked shots. The OSU roster returns 88 percent of its scoring and 77 percent of its rebounding from a year ago. The seven returning players on this year s roster also combined to make 142 of the possible 170 starts. Four of those players played in all 34 games with one other playing in 33 contests. VICTORIES OF NOTE Not only did the postseason produce memorable victories during a trying season, the regular season produced several wins of note as well. The Cowgirls 19-point win over No. 23 Texas was OSU s largest margin of victory against a ranked opponent in four years. OSU s victory over Oklahoma snapped an eightgame losing streak to its in-state rivals. The Cowgirls win at Missouri halted an 11-game Big 12 losing streak on the road. OSU also emerged victorious over Texas A&M, the defending national champions, in its final trip to Stillwater as a member of the Big 12. HIGH-FLYING ACT During Homecoming and Hoops each of her first two years, junior Toni Young displayed her athleticism. The Del City, Okla., native dunked easily on both occasions, leaving Cowgirl fans wondering if and when she will become the first OSU player to do so in a game. Young s ability to play above the rim should come as no surprise as she tied the national high jump record while attending Del City High School. If she is able to dunk during a game she would join an elite list of women s players. Only seven females have previously dunked in a game. West Virginia s Georgeann Wells was the first, doing it twice in She was followed by North Carolina s Charlotte Smith 10 years later. Tennessee s Michelle Snow had three slams during her career, while Houston s Sancho Lyttle and LSU s Sylvia Fowles each had one. Tennessee s Candace Parker had seven and most recently Baylor s Brittney Griner has dunked seven times through her first three collegiate seasons. 6 COWGIRL HEAD COACH JIM LITTELL One game into the season, Jim Littell took over the Oklahoma State women s basketball program under unthinkable circumstances and admirably guided the Cowgirls through the most trying season in program history. Following the tragic deaths of head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna on Nov. 17, Littell assumed his current role and directed the Cowgirls to the 11th 20-win season in program history and saw his squad extend its school-record string of postseason appearances to six in a row. For the previous six years, Littell had served as OSU s associate head coach and was an integral part in the resurgence of the Cowgirl program. After serving in an interim capacity for his first four games, Littell was officially elevated to the head coaching position on Dec. 9. It didn t take Littell long to write his own chapter in the school s record books, leading the squad to the Women s National Invitation Tournament title in his first season as head coach. The Cowgirls notched their first win over a Top 25 program under Littell s guidance on Jan. 7 with a triumph over No. 23 Texas. It took OSU just 17 days to earn its second win over a ranked team with Littell at the helm as the Cowgirls knocking off the defending national champion, Texas A&M. Sandwiched in between OSU s Top 25 triumphs was a down-to-the-wire Bedlam victory over Oklahoma, which snapped the Cowgirls eight-game losing streak against their in-state rivals. In the midst of a four-game losing streak, Littell rallied the Cowgirls with three consecutive victories to close the regular season and prime the squad for its postseason run. OSU s WNIT semifinal victory over San Diego resulted in Littell s 20th victory as head coach, making him the first coach in program history to achieve the feat during their first season. A season-best crowd of 6,157 filed into Gallagher-Iba Arena and helped propel the Cowgirls to a victory over James Madison in the title game. Individually, Littell s first campaign resulted in a pair of players earning postseason recognition with Tiffany Bias garnering second-team All-Big 12 honors and Liz Donohoe being named the league s freshman of the year. As associate head coach, he was instrumental in the Cowgirls producing the nation s largest turnaround and the program s first NCAA Tournament berth in more than a decade in He also helped OSU to NCAA berths in 2008 and 2010 as well as WNIT appearances in in 2009 and Prior to his move to the Division I level, Littell constructed a hall of fame career during his 14-year tenure at Seward County (Kan.)
