3 Huskies Rated No. 3 in the RPI UConn is rated No. 3 in the final edition of the RPI as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, November 8. North Carolina is rated No. 1 while Old Dominion, Maryland, and Syracuse round out the top-five. UConn has played three of the RPI s top-1 teams this season and is 3-1 against those teams. BIG EAST in the RPI UConn - 4 Syracuse - 5 Louisville - 31 Villanova - 42 Rutgers - 51 Providence - 55 Georgetown - 74 Stevens in the BIG EAST Tournament Head coach Nancy Stevens, who is in her 22nd year in charge of the UConn field hockey program, has led the Huskies to each of their 11 BIG EAST Tournament titles. In fact, she has guided UConn to all but one of its BIG EAST Tournament wins as Stevens sports a 29-1 record in BIG EAST Tournament contests. Reaching the 15-Win Mark... Again The University of Connecticut field hockey program is in its 33rd year of existence and UConn has won at least 15 games in 24 of those 33 seasons. The Huskies, 19-2, reached the 15-win plateau for the 1th year in-a-row. Fifteen of those 15-win seasons have come under Nancy Stevens. In fact, UConn has posted at least 15 wins in 16 of the last 18 seasons under Stevens. Huskies Against ODU and Maryland Connecticut comes into the Championship round with a 1-23 record against Old Dominion, including a 1-4 mark against the Monarchs in NCAA Tournament play. The Huskies defeated ODU in the semifinals of the 1981 NCAA Tournament en route to winning the national championship. Connecticut also defeated ODU in the 1985 National Championship game. UConn is 1-3 all-time against Maryland. UConn is -2 against the Terps in NCAA Tournament play. Six Huskies earned a spot on the First Team and Jestine Angelini was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Chloe Hunnable was honored as the Rookie of the Year, an award that had not been given out since the 2 season. A Husky has been honored as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in each of the last six seasons. This season, the Huskies clinched the Regular Season crown and fell, 3-2, at No. 3 Syracuse in the BIG EAST Tournament Final. Hunnable leads the team with 13 goals and is third on the squad with 3 points. Hunnable has recorded at least one point in all but five games this season. Hunnable has posted multiple points in seven of the last 12 matches in which she has seen action. A 211 All-BIG EAST First Team selection, Mansfield boasts a career record of 35-8 entering the NCAA Semifinal and has posted 13 career shutouts, including seven this year. Goalkeeper of the Year was not an award given out by the league this season. Lots of Double-Digit Scorers The Huskies have 1 players who have registered double-figure point totals this season, eclipsing last year s total of seven. Four Huskies have tallied double-digit goal totals. BIG EAST Weekly Award Winners Five different Huskies have been honored by the BIG EAST this year as either the offensive or defensive player of the week. Chloe Hunnable has been named Offensive Player of the Week twice and Anne Jeute earned the award once.
