THIS WEEK: The Jacksonville Jaguars return to Alltel Stadium for a three-game homestand as they host AFC South rival Tennessee on Sunday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m. EST. The Jaguars, 3-0 at home in 2006, are one of only four NFL teams undefeated at home (Indianapolis, San Diego, Chicago) and have won nine of their last 11 home games. This will mark only the second time in franchise history the Jaguars will have three consecutive home games in successive weeks (2000). The Jaguars enter the game with a 4-3 record after claiming their first road win of the season last Sunday at Philadelphia, The Jaguars defense held the NFL s top-ranked offense to only 227 total yards and two field goals. The Eagles entered the game averaging 417 yards and 28.6 points per game. Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew led a rushing attack that registered a season-high 209 yards on 46 carries. The Jaguars sacked Donovan McNabb four times and did not allow a score until late in the third quarter. This is a huge win for us. It was big, under difficult circumstances, and against a very talented football team, Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said. So we knew it was going to be tough circumstances against a good team on the road in their place with their crowd and all of that. It was a big win for us. Now we go home. We will be home for a while to start November, and it s nice to go back to work after a big victory like that. Guys are real happy right now and they should be. I m real proud of the locker room right now the players and the coaches and the effort that was given. The Jaguars and Titans have met 22 times in the regular season with the Titans leading the series, The Jaguars have won three of the last four games and own a 3-3 mark against the Titans under head coach Jack Del Rio. The Titans enter the game on a two-game winning streak with wins at Washington and last week against Houston. The Jaguars have played the Houston/Tennessee franchise more than any other NFL team as they have met twice a year since The Jaguars swept the season series in 2005 with a win on 11/20 at LP Field and a win in the season-finale on 1/1/06 at Alltel Stadium. The Jaguars are looking to go 4-0 at home for only the second time in franchise history (1997). Following Sunday s game, the Jaguars will play a second consecutive AFC South game as Houston visits Alltel Stadium. 3 JAGUARS RANK AMONG NFL S BEST FROM : The Jaguars have a mark (64.1 pct.) in the last four seasons under head coach Jack Del Rio, the seventh-best mark in the NFL. The Jaguars were one of only seven NFL teams with winning records in both 2004 and 2005 (Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, New England, San Diego, Denver, Seattle). JAGUARS PICK UP ROAD WIN AT PHILADELPHIA, 13-6: The Jaguars improved to 4-3 overall with a 13-6 win at Philadelphia last Sunday. The Jaguars rushed for a season-high 209 yards, led by Fred Taylor s 103 yards, and held Philadelphia without a touchdown for the first time this season. The Eagles entered the game as the NFL s top-ranked offense, averaging 417 yards per game and 28.6 points, but the Jaguars held them to only 227 total yards and two field goals. The Eagles won the coin toss and elected to receive, but were forced to punt after three plays. David Garrard, starting for injured Byron Leftwich, engineered a seven-play, 48-yard opening drive for the Jaguars that culminated with a Fred Taylor 15-yard touchdown run. The Jaguars played stout defense as they did not allow an Eagles first down until the second quarter. Rookie Maurice Jones-Drew, who finished with 21 carries for 77 yards, fumbled late in the first quarter and the Eagles recovered on their 28-yard line. Rookie linebacker Clint Ingram sacked Donovan McNabb on first down and the Eagles were forced to punt two plays later. Following a Jaguars punt, McNabb directed a 11-play drive, but the Eagles failed to convert a fourth-and-five at the Jaguars 36- yard line. Bobby McCray and Rob Meier combined to sack McNabb on fourth down. On the ensuing possession, Taylor raced 54-yards to the end zone on first down, but the play was nullified on a holding call. The Jaguars took a 7-0 lead at the half. Both offenses stalled to open the second half and a punt gave the Jaguars the ball at the Eagles 46-yard line. Taylor raced 16 yards on first down and then Jones- Drew rushed six consecutive times for 19 yards. Garrard was sacked for a 11-yard loss and the Jaguars settled for a 40-yard field goal by Josh Scobee to increase the lead to The Eagles answered with a 13-play, 59-yard drive that resulted in a 25-yard field goal by David Akers at the end of the third quarter. The Jaguars responded with a 11-play drive, highlighted by a 24-yard reception by Matt Jones, to set up a 27-yard field goal by Scobee. Both teams moved the ball on their next possessions, but couldn t produce any points. The Eagles got the ball back with 2:35 remaining and went 63 yards on 11 plays to set up a 28-yard field goal to cut the lead to six, Akers onside kick was recovered by the Jaguars Daryl Smith to seal the win. LEFTOVER NOTES FROM WIN AT PHILADELPHIA: The Jaguars rushed for a season-high 209 yards on 46 carries, the 12th-most rushing yards in team history and most since the club had 221 at St. Louis on 10/30/05. The Jaguars have rushed for 200-plus yards five times since The 46 carries were the most since 9/25/05 at the New York Jets (47 carries, 139 yards). The Jaguars held Philadelphia with Donovan McNabb at quarterback without a touchdown for the first time since 11/7/04 at Pittsburgh, a span of 23 games. In addition, McNabb did not throw for a touchdown for only the fifth time since The Eagles entered the game having scored 20-plus points in each of their first seven games. Fred Taylor, who has 40 career 100-yard rushing games, went over the 100-yard mark for the second time in three games with 103 yards. Taylor finished with four runs of 10-plus yards. David Garrard improved his overall record to 6-3 as a starter with wins in five of his last six starts. Rookie Maurice Jones-Drew recorded a career-high 21 carries for 77 yards, the second-most rushing yards of his career. Defensive end Bobby McCray finished with one sack, with a half of a sack in the first and second quarters, and has recorded at least one sack in four of the last six games. McCray moved into ninth place in team history with 14.0 sacks, surpassing Renaldo Wynn s Rookie linebacker Clint Ingram picked up his first career sack while fellow rookie defensive end Brent Hawkins recorded a sack for the second consecutive game. The Jaguars shut out the Eagles in the first half, marking the third time this season an opponent has failed to score in the first half. Ernest Wilford extended his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 25 games, the longest on the team. Alvin Pearman had a career-long 29-yard punt return in the second quarter. TENNESSEE TITANS, NOVEMBER 5, 2006 SUNDAY S OPPONENT: Formerly the Houston Oilers, the Tennessee Titans were a charter member of the American Football League, starting play in They won the first two AFL Championships behind the duo of George Blanda and Charlie Hennigan, then lost the 1962 AFL title game. Behind the running of future Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell, the Oilers advanced to conference championship games in 1978 and 79. They struggled again for a number of years, then advanced to the playoffs every season from 1987 to 1993, though losing in the first round of the playoffs five times and then falling to 2-14 in In 1995, they rebounded to a 7-9 record under coach Jeff Fisher, and were 8-8 for three straight seasons. The Oilers moved to Tennessee in 1997 and played in Memphis for a season before moving to Nashville and playing at Vanderbilt in In 1999, the Titans finished 13-3 and appeared in the AFC Championship game and advanced to the Super Bowl after beating Jacksonville. In 2000, they finished 13-3 again and won the AFC Central Division, before slipping to 7-9 in In 2002, they finished 11-5, winning the AFC South and advancing to the AFC Championship game before falling to Oakland. Tennessee won a wild-card playoff berth in 2003 after going The Titans finished and 4-12 last year. HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER: Jeff Fisher is in his 12th full season as the Titans head coach. He has posted a record during his 12 seasons (he was interim coach for the final six games of 1994). Fisher has led the Titans to four playoff appearances (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003) including the franchise s first AFC championship in 1999 and a trip to Super Bowl XXXIV. Fisher owns the franchise record for victories by a head coach, surpassing Bum Phillips in 2000, and was the fourth-youngest head coach (46) since 1960 to reach the 90-win plateau. He ranks second behind Pittsburgh s Bill Cowher in seniority among current NFL head coaches. Fisher became only the fifth coach in NFL history to lead his team to consecutive 13-win seasons (1999, 2000). TENNESSEE TITANS, NOVEMBER 5, 2006 THE LAST TIME: The Jaguars finished the regular season with a win over visiting Tennessee on January 1, Several of the Jaguars starters did not play as the club clinched a playoff berth the previous week. The Jaguars outscored the Titans 40-0 through three quarters. The Jaguars began the game scoring on five of their first seven series including touchdowns on their first two possessions. Alvin Pearman scored the first touchdown of his career on a six-yard run on the opening series and following a Titans punt, LaBrandon Toefield ran for a career-long 32 yards for the Jaguars second score. Toefield finished with a career-high 102 yards on 25 carries. Josh Scobee increased the Jaguars lead to 20-0 with two field goals (46, 38). The Titans turned the ball over on downs on a failed fourth-and-two attempt midway through the second quarter and Derrick Wimbush scored his first career rushing touchdown on a six-yard run to give the Jaguars a 27-0 halftime lead. Quinn Gray replaced starter David Garrard in the second half and led the Jaguars to back-to-back touchdown drives in the third quarter. Gray connected with Matt Jones on a 10-yard TD pass and then hit Ernest Wilford on a 14-yard TD pass. 14 MEIER MAKES MOST OF OPPORTUNITY: Rob Meier mostly sees action as a reserve in the Jaguars defensive tackle rotation, but 18 of his 23 starts have been at defensive end. Meier sees action behind Pro Bowl tackles Marcus Stroud and John Henderson, but the opening day injury to Reggie Hayward moved Meier back into a starting role at LDE. He moved back inside and has started at DT the last three games with Stroud out with an injury. Meier, who was a seventh-round pick in 2000 from Washington State, ranked third on the team in 2005 with a career-high six sacks and led all AFC defensive tackles. He picked up where he left off in 2006 as he has recorded 2.5 sacks. Meier has played in 98 games with the Jaguars with 23 starts and has 13.0 sacks and 200 tackles. He started eight games at defensive end in 2004 before suffering a fractured fibula at Minnesota on 11/28. WILLIAMS AND GREISEN ADDED IN OFFSEASON: The Jaguars added a starting right cornerback and outside linebacker in the offseason. In addition, there are 13 players on the roster who were with the team prior to Jaguars guard Chris Naeole is one of five current NFL players from Kahuku High School in Hawaii. Kahuku joins Dillard (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Ely (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, Calif.) and Dorsey (Los Angeles, Calif.) as the high schools with a NFL-best five players in the NFL.
