Christin Chadwick posted a record and a 1.13 ERA to lead the Rockets on the mound and Sherri Magnuson led the team with a.331 batting average. Head coach Cheryl Sprangel was named MAC Coach of the Year for a third time. In addition to competing against conference schools, the Rockets travel across the nation to play some of the elite teams in collegiate softball. Over the past few years, UT has competed in tournaments in Chapel Hill, Kennesaw, Kissimmee, Tuscaloosa, Chattanooga and Fresno to name a few. This year, UT will visit Charlotte and Clearwater, Fla., in its pre-conference schedule. The Rocket softball program has won the secondmost regular-season titles (three) in Mid-American Conference history. UT is also one of four schools to appear in the College World Series, advancing to the 1989 tournament in Sunnyvale, CA. The Rockets finished seventh after dropping decisions to Oklahoma State (3-1) and Fresno State (3-0). All-Time MAC Standings Team W L T PCT 1. NCAA/College Softball World Series Success The University of Toledo softball team has made its mark at the national level through the years, appearing in the NCAA Tournament twice and winning three MidAmerican Conference titles. The Rockets defeated Creighton twice and knocked off Big Ten champion Iowa in regional play in 1989 to advance to the College Softball World Series. UT eventually lost to Oklahoma State and Fresno State to finish tied for seventh, the furthest any UT women s team has ever advanced on a national scale. Toledo duplicated its 1989 feat by winning the MidAmerican Conference title in 1992 and advancing to NCAA Tournament play. The Rockets earned their way by winning 23 of their last 25 games and posting a 27-4 league mark, the best in school history. In addition, UT notched 11 shutouts, including a nohitter and a perfect game along the way and posted its second-most victories ever (39). All those accolades earned the Rockets a ranking of 18th in the nation and a No. 16 seed entering the NCAA Tournament. ROCKET SUCCESS MAC CHAMPIONS 1985 MAC champions with a school-record 44 victories Toledo (44-23) captured its first Mid-American Conference regular-season title with a 16-2 league mark under head coach Cheryl Sprangel. The conference championship was also the first by a UT women s program. Tami Johnston posted a 26-8 win-loss mark and led the MAC with an amazing 0.24 ERA and also registered a conference-best 262 strikeouts in innings pitched. The Rockets finished as the runner-up in the MAC Tournament after losing a pair of nine-inning games to eventual champion Central Michigan by 1-0 and 8-7 margins. Rocket Travels 31
