On Friday, olumbia will battle Buffalo, before heading to Binghamt for a Sunday matinee. ABOUT BUFFALO The Bis have seen the Lis in acti earlier in the year at the New York State hampiships. That tournament for Buffalo was e of just two open tournaments this year that the team has participated in, as the Bulls have put together a 5-7 record in dual competiti. OLUMBIA VS. BUFFALO Although Buffalo was able to finish e spot ahead of olumbia at the New York State s, the Lis went 1-0 in the A Bracket against the Bulls. oor Sutt was respsible for this, knocking off Justin ooksey, 12-3, at 149. ABOUT BINGHAMTON Much like Buffalo, Binghamt has taken part in mostly dual matches this year, as well as the New York State hampiships and the Midlands hampiships. Barth Head oach of Wrestling oach Frhofer embarks his fourth seas at the helm of a program that has found success the natial stage. Frhofer led four Lis to the NAA hampiships in , which include returners Markus Scheidel, Shane Hughes, and Zack Hernandez.Frhofer first joined the program in 2008 as an Assistant. Prior to the 2011 seas, the former All-American at the University of Pittsburgh was named the Andrew F. Barth Head oach of Wrestling at olumbia. 8 OLUMBIA WRESTLING RESULTS Wrestling ompetes At Michigan State 11/2/2014 EAST LANSING, Mich. - The olumbia wrestling team had a nice start to the seas at the Michigan State Open Invitatial, in East Lansing, Michigan. The Lis were e of 29 teams that took part in today s match. Two olumbia wrestlers earned third place finishes, in Markus Scheidel at 157, and Zack Hernandez at 184. Scheidel earned a trip to the semifinal after victories over Purdue s Dustin Schultz, Lake Erie s Isaac Morisette, and Michigan s Jake Salazar. After falling to another Wolverine in Brian Murphy in the semifinal, Scheidel w in a tiebreaker over Spartak hino of Ohio. Hernandez w three matches in a row before dropping a decisi to Notre Dame s Joey Davis in the semifinal. The junior finished the day 4-1 after an injury defeat over John Rizqallah of Michigan State. Two Lis both had impressive outings at 149 in Tyler Pte and oor Sutt. Pte finished in fourth place, going 3-2 the day, while Sutt battled back after a secd round loss to go 6-1 for fifth. Another pair of olumbia wrestlers came in at sixth place after going 4-2 the day. Shane Hughes was a sixth place finisher at 174, while first-year Garrett Ryan ended up in the same spot at 285. 9 RESULTS Lis Fall To Lehigh In Dual Acti 11/21/14 NEW YORK - The olumbia wrestling team battled, but ultimately fell to Lehigh in the first dual-meet of the seas in frt of a packed house at the New York Athletic lub. Markus Scheidel earned the le match victory for the Lis, as the Mountain Hawks came out top, In the first match of the day, Johns Mai fell to Scott Parker of Lehigh at the 1:52 mark in the first period Angelo Amenta had a tough battle with Mas Breckman of Lehigh, who has been ranked in the top five of several preseas polls. The two grapplers felt each other out in the first period, ending the frame scoreless. Breckman was able to grab two points in the secd period, taking a lead into the third. Amenta earned an escape point in the final frame, but ultimately fell, 4-1. Wrestling Takes Mats At N.Y. State hampiships 11/23/14 ITHAA, N.Y. - The Lis posted a number of top performancess today, including a secd place finish from oor Sutt, and four third place finishes in the A divisi at the New York State hampiships. Overall, olumbia finished fifth out of the 20 teams that took part in the event. ornell was the overall wier with points, edging out Hofstra at 144. Army took third at 128.5, Buffalo was fourth with 121.5, while the Lis managed points the day Johns Mai was e of the third place finishers, after going 4-1 the day. In the B divisi, Britain arter took secd place, earning four wins the day First-year Jacob Macalolooy came out aggressive against Randy ruz, but it would not be enough as ruz topped the olumbia first-year, oor Sutt trailed 3-0 after two rounds, and battled back against Lehigh s Drew Lgo. The first-year for the Mountain Hawks ultimately topped Sutt, Scheidel looked to be in ctrol throughout a closely ctested match, earning the le Li win, 6-4. The sophomore improved to 5-1 the seas with the win First-year Tyrel White hung with a fifth-year senior in Santiago Martinez throughout the entire match. In the third, Martinez earned a late escape and added a point in riding time to win, Senior tri-captain Shane Hughes was out-lasted by Marshall Peppelman of Lehigh, dropping a 7-2 decisi Zack Hernandez of olumbia and Nathaniel Brown of Lehigh went back-and-forth in the first two rounds, going in to the final period in a scoreless tie. Brown scored three points in the final period and added a point riding time to knock off Hernandez, John Bolich of Lehigh got to work, and forced a fall of Matt Idels 55 secds in to the first period First-year Garrett Ryan went down to the wire with Doug Vollaro in the final match of the dual. Vollaro took a 4-3 lead into the third period, and surpassed Ryan, Angelo Amenta also took third, going 4-1. The junior defeated Rocco Rosso of Brockport State 10-2, in his final match. JP Ascolese was a champi in the B divisi, wiing all four of his matches Jacob Macalolooy went 2-2 today, earning his two wins via a 15-0 tech fall, and a secd round fall Sutt was the highest placing Li the day, taking secd at 149. After receiving a first round bye, the junior w three straight matches, advancing to the final, where he ultimately lost to Hofstra s ody Ruggirello. Tyler Pte finished the afterno at 1-2, wiing 6-4 in his first match of the day Markus Scheidel went 3-3 for sixth, including a win with a tech fall and a fall. 10 Hernandez Highlights olumbia s Weekend At liff Keen Invitatial 12/6/ RESULTS LAS VEGAS - One olumbia wrestler advanced to the secd day of the liff Keen Invitatial, after the Lis battled some of the top competiti in the country today at the Las Vegas venti enter. Zack Hernandez made it to day two, after going 3-1 the first day at 184. The junior w his first match by a score of 10-4, before dropping a 4-1 ctest. Hernandez topped Army s Austin Wilding 5-0 in the final match of the sessi, advancing to this evenings sessi. In his final match day e, Hernandez topped N State s Michael Macchiavello 10-7, earning a rematch with Brown s Ophir Bernstein the secd day. Down 6-3 in the final round, Hernandez was unable to regain positi the senior for the Bears, dropping a 7-3 match. Jacob Macalolooy earned a win by fall in the secd period of his first match of the day. The first-year at 141 then dropped a 17-7 match to the three-seed, Nick Dardanes of Miesota, in his secd bout. Macalolooy then earned a 10-2 victory over Joeseph Duca of Indiana to advance to the night sessi, where he dropped his final ctest. At 133, Angelo Amenta opened the liff Keen with two wins, before dropping his next two matches. Markus Scheidel (157), Matt Idels (197), and Garrett Ryan (HWT.) also w their first matches of the day, but the trio ended 1-2, en route to becoming eliminated from the competiti. Ryan laims Seventh At Midlands hampiships 12/30/14 EVANSTON, Ill. - In the secd day of competiti, olumbia first-year Garrett Ryan earned a seventh place finish in the heavyweight divisi, while Tyrel White lost his ly match at 165 in the 52nd Aual Ken Kraft Midlands hampiships. In his first match of the day, Ryan scored a first round takedown Brock Horwath of Wiscsin with ly three secds left in the round. The first-year was able to rack up the riding time in the secd period, before taking the bottom positi in the third. Horwath was unable to move Ryan in the final period, preserving a 2-0 win for olumbia. Against Daws Peck of Maryland in his secd match, Ryan was unable to get points back after being taken down in the first round. Neither wrestler scored a point in the secd and third rounds, leading to Peck s 2-0 victory. In the last olumbia match of the day, Ryan earned a chance to claim seventh place against Jake Henders of Old Domini. Ryan impressed his way out, earning a 10-1 major decisi over the seven seed in the tournament. The first-year now sits at 13-8 the seas, after posting four wins in the tournament. White dropped his ly match today, unable to overcome four first period points by al State Bakersfield s Adam Fierro. The olumbia first-year tallied a takedown in the third period, but time ran out with him trailing, 4-2. By posting four wins at the Midlands, White improved his record to 13-9 the seas. olumbia finished the tournament in 24th place with 19.5 points.
