He writes grant applications & administers them to ensure compliance requirements are met. He is very outgoing always willing to help up to and including changing light bulbs or hauling items to storage. He makes himself available when help is needed. He exemplifies ASCOG s spirit. GRAMLING, age 89, passed away on June 30, Lloyd was on ASCOG s Board of Trustees from when he was the Mayor of Newcastle. Prior to that he served on the OKC Police Department retiring in 1985 Lloyd Gramling as the Chief. ELTON D. BROWN, age 99, passed away on July 17, Elton was the Mayor of Apache from 1977 to He was also on ASCOG s Board of Trustees from Prior to that he served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 Elton Brown years. Both men were great Trustees for ASCOG. 2 AREA AGENCY ON AGING MEETING SCHEDULE All three meetings will take place at the Red River Technology Center in Duncan on August 28, Elderly Assistance Inc. Meets at 9:00 a.m. AAA Advisory Council meets at 10:30 a.m. Oklahoma Silver Haired Legislature meets after Advisory Council meeting. For more information, contact KEN JONES at (580) PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE Inventory will begin mid-august and run through December The goal is to complete all 8 counties to ensure an accurate audit of forestry equipment assigned to all departments. Some departments are finishing efforts to equip new trucks while others are starting their projects. Training is a top priority for later summer and fall with Fire Fighter I starting soon at the Red River Technology Center in Duncan. Classes are also being taught at Addington Fire Department. The meeting will be in Conference Room 1 in Building 200. REAP APPLICATIONS Three key points to address NOW to ensure your REAP application can be submitted before the deadline: 1. Select an eligible project that can be fully funded including leveraged dollars, 2. Obtain cost estimates from an eligible source, and 3. Take formal board action: a. to approve the application including authorization identifying appropriate signatures to submit the application, b. to approve a 5-year Capital Improvement Plan, and c. to approve any cash leverage from the applicant agency. Keep in mind that these matches are not required but do figure into the scoring system. No objective points will be given for in-kind matches this year REAP projects must begin within 6 months from the contract signing and be completed by June 30, Please remember, ASCOG CED staff will write your REAP application for a $150 fee. If the application is not funded, there is no charge for writing subsequent grants the following year for the same project. This fee must be paid for by the applicant and not out of REAP funds. The purpose of this option is to ensure every REAP applicant has the potential to submit a competitive, wellwritten application. Having ASCOG CED staff write your grants does not guarantee approval, but it does ensure that your grant is well-written where the scorers can fully understand the importance of the project. See upcoming events below! 70th ANNUAL RUSH SPRINGS WATERMELON FESTIVAL August 9 - August 11, 2018 Since its beginning in 1948, the Rush Springs Watermelon Festival has served up countless slices of ice-cold watermelon. Over 50,000 pounds of watermelons are purchased from local melon growers and served to festival visitors each year. The event attracts tens of thousands of people. The family friendly event also features seed-spitting contests, arts and crafts, food vendors, a car show, carnival rides and more. COME OVER AND HAVE SOME OLD-FASHIONED FUN! TUTTLE RODEO August 3 - August 4, 2018 Schrock Park Arena Join the citizens of Tuttle for two evenings of rodeo thrills and excitement. Events include a parade, bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, team roping, calf scramble, barrel racing and mutton busting. Lots of good food and live entertainment! LAWTON RANGER RODEO August 8 - August 11, 2018 LO Ranch The Lawton Rangers PRCA Rodeo is one of the top 25 rodeos in the U.S. Over 400 of the most skilled cowboys and cowgirls in the country compete in tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding and barrel racing. Grab your cowboy hat and head over for some great entertainment.

4 AMERICAN INDIAN EXPO August 13 - August 18, 2018 Caddo County Fairgrounds Anadarko Long championed as the first and only all-indian operated cultural event of its kind, the Expo features the arts, crafts and traditions of 13 plains Indian tribes. This event also features one of the largest American Indian parades in Oklahoma. CARNEGIE TRI-COUNTY FREE FAIR August 16 - August 18, 2018 Carnegie Park Come join the fun at the Carnegie Tri-County Free Fair and enjoy nightly entertainment by local musicians, games and livestock shows. Take an exhilarating spin on a carnival ride or browse through a variety of exhibits and vendor booths, including a wealth of handmade arts and crafts. The Carnegie Tri-County Free Fair also offers visitors plenty of delicious food to choose from. Feast on fair favorites such as corn dogs, cotton candy and funnel cakes. The Carnegie Tri-County Free Fair is held in conjunction with Carnegie's annual Canna Festival, held that Saturday. ELGIN RODEO August 17 - August 18, 2018 Kenney Road and Miller Road The Elgin Rodeo is a southwestern Oklahoma tradition. For several years, thousands of people have gathered in this small town each summer to witness this open rodeo. Come see traditional rodeo events and cheer for your favorite cowboys and cowgirls. There will also be live entertainment, vendors with unique items and concessions where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cool drink. Following the rodeo, there will be a live band on Saturday night. Get ready to kick up your heels and enjoy live music from great local bands.

5 DOXA EXTREME RODEO August 22 - August 26, 2018 Alex At DOXA, over 50 different events across five arenas fill the day from early in the morning to late at night. Whether its chasing eight seconds of glory during the L.J. Jenkins Bull riding Tour, watching the precise riding of the barrel racers, competing in a true fenceless ranch style rodeo, bronco busting or even running with the bulls, this event stampedes through the boundaries defining a traditional rodeo. Legendary bull rider and entertainer Dale Brisby will be hosting all the action. Another unique aspect of Doxa is open entry to many of the events, bringing together both beginners and pros. STEPHENS COUNTY FREE FAIR August 23 - August 25, 2018 Stephens County Fair and Expo Center The Stephens County Free Fair, held annually in Duncan since 1907, offers visitors endless family-friendly entertainment in August. Come to this much -loved county fair for live entertainment, a trade show with a wide variety of commercial vendor booths, a rodeo, arts and crafts and a carnival with amusement rides for both kids and adrenaline-loving adults. If nothing else, come to the Stephens County Free Fair for delicious food including homemade pie by the slice, barbecue brisket sandwiches, Indian tacos and charcoal-grilled hamburgers. Numerous other food vendors will also be available. HINTON FAIR August 23 - August 25, 2018 Hinton Fairgrounds Bring the whole family out to one of Oklahoma s oldest community fairs in Hinton. This locally owned and operated fair offers safe, clean and inexpensive fun for all ages. The midway, exhibits, entertainment, food booths and stock shows at the Hinton Fair all open at 7pm. A horse show will also be held on Saturday morning at 8am.
