1 JUNIOR FAIR 4-H ACTIVITIES TENT EXHIBITS ENTER ONLINE AT JUNIOR FAIR ONLINE REGISTRATION OPENS MAY 1, 2108 JUNIOR FAIR ONLINE ENTRIES DEADLINE IS JUNE 9, Criteria for Evaluation: The judging/evaluation process for 4-H projects will include: a. An interview with a judge(s): b. Exhibition of a project item and/or educational display; c. A completed project book; d. For more information, please check each division under this department, the 4-H Pre-Fair Packet and /or the Franklin County 4-H Project Requirement Guide. 2. Criteria for 4-H Project Items/Displays: A project item includes item(s) made, constructed, created, produced, grown and/or designed by the exhibitor based on project guidelines and requirements. An educational display may be a poster, exhibit board, mobile, model, collage, kit, storyboard, or other creative presentation of project work unless otherwise noted in the Franklin County 4-H Project Requirement Guide. A project book does not constitute a project item, exhibit, and/or display. 3. Evaluation Ribbons for 4-H Projects: Blue, Red and White Ribbons are based on judge s interview and review of the project book. 4. Superior, Outstanding and Honorable Mention Awards for 4-H Projects: Superior, Outstanding and Honorable Mention Ribbons will be awarded at the discretion of the judge. 5. Age Requirements: Projects marked Junior & Senior are separated into two age divisions: a. Junior: ages 13 and under b. Senior: ages 14 and over 6. Evaluation Check-In Time: 4-H exhibitors should arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to their scheduled project evaluation judging time to complete check-in procedures at the Junior Fair Activities Tent. For complete check-in procedures and times, review the 4-H Pre-Fair Packet. 7. Special Awards for 4-H Projects: Best of Class/Show, 4-H State Fair Selection, and 4-H State Fair Alternate selections are explained under each division, if applicable and/or if available at time of Junior Fair Premium Book posting. Only members with completed project books and a Blue Ribbon are eligible for 4-H State Fair Selection, 4-H State Fair Alternate, Honorable Mention or Best of Class/Show Awards. Members who participate in make up evaluations are not eligible to receive these awards. 8. Awards Ceremony: Project awards are distributed by the judge. Additional awards may be awarded at the completion of the event. 9. Questions: Questions regarding project evaluation should be directed to the 4-H club advisor. 3 Clothing/Quilt Exhibitor Rules and Regulations 1. Evaluation Times by Project: Check the 4-H Pre-Fair Packet for specific times for each 4-H project. 2. Eligibility for Awards: Only 4-H clothing project members who meet all of the following are eligible for 4-H State Fair Selection and State Fair Alternate Awards, Modeling, Construction, and Honorable Mention Award: A. All project requirements, a completed project book, and a blue ribbon B. Participation in both the Evaluation and Fashion Revue & Quilt Show 3. Eligibility and Quotas for State Fair Selections and Alternates: All 4-H clothing and Quilt classes are eligible for State Fair Selection and State Fair Alternates. The number of State Fair Selection and Alternates will be chosen based on criteria written in the State Fair Guide Book. 4. Requirements for Evaluation : A. 4-H member must bring completed project book. B. 4-H member must be prepared to have the constructed item inspected and critiqued by judges while modeling or displaying the item. C. 4-H member must provide a Description/Fashion Revue & Quilt Show Form describing the garment/item(s) constructed or selected as part of their 4-H project. D. 4-H member must bring all pattern pieces used. E. The Junior Fair Office will be available for members to change clothes prior to their evaluation. 5. Fashion Revue & Quilt Show Check-In: 4-H participants will be expected to be at the Activities Tent 30 minutes prior to the start of the 4-H Fashion Revue & Quilt Show to register. There will be a dressing space available to change into the Junior Fair Office. 6. Modeling Awards Criteria: A top modeling award will be given to a Junior and an Intermediate/Senior 4-H Clothing Project. Judging is based on poise, personality, style, and how well the garment is presented. Eligible ages of exhibitors for modeling awards are as follows: Junior (8-11 years old), Intermediate/Senior (12-18 years old) as of January 1 of the current year. 7. Construction Awards Criteria: A top construction award will be given to a Junior and an Intermediate/Senior 4-H Clothing Project. Selection is based on the judge's inspection of clothing construction during Evaluations. Eligible ages of exhibitors for construction awards are as follows: Junior (8-11 years old), Intermediate/Senior (12-18 years old) as of January 1 of the current year. 8. Exhibits: Following the Fashion Revue & Quilt Show, all exhibitors must place their 4-H clothing/quilt project in their 4-H club booth. It is strongly recommended that exhibitors cover their 4-H project with clear plastic to protect them from dust.

9 must be served and/or stored cold or hot must meet specific temperature guidelines to be eaten safely. Prepared food items may be tested with a thermometer by the judge(s)/fair official(s). 11 2. Evaluation Times by Project: Check the 4-H Pre-Fair Packet for specific evaluation times for each small animal class. 3. Evaluation Criteria: Evaluations will be based on the condition of the animal, the project record and the member's knowledge as shared in the interview. Ribbons will be awarded based on the evaluations. 4. Required Project Exhibit: At the conclusion of the awards for each class the members and their projects are released. Please remember to place a representation of your project in your booth. 5. Small Animal Responsibility: Each member is responsible for the care and safety of their animal. All cats are required to be in a cat carrier when not being judged 6. No Wildlife Permitted: Wildlife animals will not be permitted in the evaluation. 7. Other Requirements: All small animals must be in the continual care of the Junior Fair Exhibitor on or before May Cat Requirements: a. Cats must be a minimum of 15 weeks old by the day of evaluations. Kittens less that 15 weeks are not permitted at evaluations. b. Cats must be immunized against Feline Panleukopenia (FPL), Feline Viral rhinotracheitis (FVR) and Feline Calcivirus (FCV), OR vaccinated according to the veterinarian s vaccination protocol. All cats MUST be immunized against Rabies. All vaccinations must be current through the day of evaluations and given by a licensed, accredited veterinarian. c. Proof of vaccinations must be on the County Companion Animal Day Certificate of Vaccination for Cats and Ferrets and signed by a licensed, accredited veterinarian. 9. Ferret Requirements: Ferrets must be immunized against Rabies and Canine Distemper, OR according to the veterinarian s vaccination protocol. All vaccinations must be current through July 23, 2016 and given by a licensed, accredited veterinarian. a. Proof of vaccinations must be on the County Companion Animal Day Certificate of Vaccination for Cats and Ferrets and signed by a licensed, accredited veterinarian. 10. Health Inspection Fee: is not necessary for Small Animal Evaluations 11. No dogs should be brought to evaluations for All About Dogs (200) 12. Educational Display: The exhibitor must present an educational display on a topic of their choice related to their vegetable, flower, field crops, lawn care or self - determined horticulture project. 5. Evaluation Check - In: 4-H exhibitors should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled project evaluation/event judging time to complete check-in procedures at the Junior Fair Activities Tent. For complete check-in procedure and times, review the 4-H prefair packet. 6. Project Display in Club or Organization Booth: All exhibitors are required to place an educational display in their booth.

13 VEGETABLE DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS FOR JUDGING: Exhibitors must display their vegetables on plates, a tray or in a basket. No glass items may be used. 4-H members should follow these requirements for displaying vegetables: a. First and Second Year Members - 3 plates of vegetables OR 1 tray/basket display of three different vegetables (see suggested exhibits and amounts). b. Third Year Members and Over - 6 plates of vegetables OR a tray or/basket display of 6 different vegetables (see suggested exhibits and amounts). Suggested Vegetables and Numbers of Vegetables for Vegetable Display: White or Red Potatoes, 5 semi - mature Snap Beans, 10 pods, semi - mature Yellow Wax Beans, 10 pods, semi - mature Lima Beans, 10 pods, semi - mature Red Onions (outer scale remaining), 5 White Onions (outer scale remaining), 5 Table beets (smooth, taproot remaining), 5 Carrots (cut tops), 5 Sweet Peppers, 5 Cucumbers, 5 Red Tomatoes (without calyx), 5 Banana Peppers, 5 Summer Squash, 3 Yellow Tomatoes (without Calyx), 5 Salad Tomatoes (pear, cherry, or paste, with Winter Squash, 3 semi - mature calyx), 15 Cabbage (two sets of outer leaves remaining), 1 head Any Other Vegetables of members choice Sweet Corn (husk and silk removed from side of ear, top to bottom) 5 ears FLOWER/PLANT DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS FOR JUDGING: First year - One or more of the following: a. Eligibility: Any youth age 5 and in Kindergarten through 2nd grade enrolled in the 4-H Cloverbud program is eligible to participate in the 4-H Cloverbud Show-n-Tell H Cloverbud Show-n-Tell Requirements: a. Bring one item the Cloverbud has made in conjunction with 4-H during the current year (during a club meeting or as a result of a club activity). Animals and food items are not acceptable items to bring. b. Share the item, describe how the item was made, and what you learned from the experience c. If the member completed the book, My Cloverbud Year, they may bring it to Cloverbud Show-n-Tell also. (This is not a requirement.) Revised
