1 2014 MARLOW MINI RUGBY TOURNAMENT INFORMATION PACK DATES The Tournament is being played over two days: Saturday, 29 March 2014: Sunday, 30 March 2014: U7 s U8 s U9 s U10 s U11 s U12 s VENUE The Tournament will take place at Marlow Rugby Club, Riverwoods Drive, Marlow, Buckinghamshire SL7 1QU. IN CASE WE HAVE TO POSTPONE OR CANCEL In the event that we are forced to postpone or cancel the 2014 tournament, we will utilise all possible means to inform entrants as soon as we can, including via , text messages, social media and the internet. We encourage you to check online before setting off: Twitter Marlow Rugby Club website PARKING Only authorised vehicles will be allowed into Marlow Rugby Club. Entry will be strictly controlled. Where possible, we encourage you to share cars or travel by coach. See PDF with for maps and approach routes of parking areas for cars and coaches. 2 FIRST AID AND CHILD WELFARE Each participating team is expected to bring a First Aider with them. Your Age Group control team will have the contact details for all First Aiders. An ambulance will be summoned for serious injuries. Please advise players / parents / supporters to bring clothing and equipment appropriate for the weather. Teams should come kitted up and ready to play. DISCIPLINE Coaches, players and spectators are reminded of the Codes of Conduct and their requirements. Any disciplinary complaints regarding coaches, players, spectators or referees received by us will be dealt with in the same manner and treated with the utmost seriousness. We reserve the right to discipline any participating club as considered appropriate under the circumstances. Abuse of officials, players or other spectators will be subject to disciplinary action either through the deduction of league points or through formal proceedings via club or county disciplinary panels. REGISTRATION Registration will take place at the relevant Age Group control tent. Teams are expected to bring their completed forms with them and register with the relevant Age Group Control before 09:30. BRIEFING FOR REFEREES AND COACHES These will happen at 09:30 at the relevant Age Group Control tent. TOURNAMENT START TIME The first matches for each Age Group will commence at 10:00 each day. POOL DRAWS AND GAME TIME Pool draws and fixtures for each Age Group will be available at Registration. No player will exceed the RFU regulation of 60 minutes of rugby during the event. Page 2 of 10

5 RFU RULES U7 s, U8 s, U9 s and U10 s will play according to The RFU s New Rules of Play. U11 s and U12 s will play according to the RFU s Continuum Rules. TOURNAMENT RULES Matches times will be as per the fixture schedule issued for each Age Group. Teams must be at the allocated pitch two minutes before the scheduled match time. Teams that are more than five minutes late will be deemed as no-shows, will forfeit the match and have a 6-0 result recorded against them. Referees will manage timings for their games. Only the referee is allowed on the pitch with the players. There is no injury time. Referees may stop time for serious incidents. Coaches are to remain off the pitch during all games, including breaks in play. They may attend to an injured player and come on at half time. Half time is limited to two minutes only. Mouthguards are a requirement for all players from U9 upwards and are recommended for U7 s and U8 s. Game times for each Age Group match are as per RFU guidelines. The try differential rule will be applied for all matches. This means that if one team gets six tries ahead, the match will end and the score will be recorded. o The match may continue to full time, if both coaches and the referee agree but the score at the end of this extension to the game will not be put forward. Substitutions will only be made during a break in play with knowledge of the referee, unless the referee has agreed to accept rolling substitutions at the start of the match. Substitutions are otherwise unrestricted. Team positions for the pool stages will be decided on match points, awarded as follows: o Winning Team: 3 points o Drawn Match: 1 point for both teams o Losing Team: 0 points o No show: 0 points and a 6-0 loss will be recorded. 6 WHEN TEAMS ARE LEVEL AFTER POOL STAGE If two or more teams have the same number of match points the following rules will be applied in sequence to decide their finishing position: Rule 1. Differential of tries scored: The number of tries scored both for and against each team will be totalled and the team with the greatest positive differential shall be declared to be ahead of the other team/s that were tied on match points. Rule 2. Tries scored: If after applying Rule 1 teams are still level, only the number of tries scored by those teams (tries scored against them will not be taken into account) will be compared and the team with the highest tries scored will be declared to be ahead of the other team/s that were tied on match points. Rule 3. Previous match played between them: If after applying Rules 1 and 2 teams are still level, the result of the league match (if applicable) between those teams shall be decisive. The winning team of the league match will be declared to be ahead of the other team that were tied on match points. Rule 4. Rock, Paper, Scissors: If after applying Rules 1, 2 and 3 there are two or more teams still level on match points then the team captains will compete against each other in a best of three game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine the finishing order. WHEN TEAMS ARE LEVEL AFTER FINALS There will be no extra time and Finals will not be determined by a golden try. Teams that are level at the completion of Finals will be declared joint winners. 7 U7 TOURNAMENT FORMAT Our U7 competition will be played to the RFU New Rules of Play. The Tournament will be split into an A and B competition. We're keen to allow as many U7 players as possible to participate in our Tournament and as the New Rules of Play state that games should be 4 v 4, we've amended our U7 Tournament structure. As per our Tournament invitation, each U7 squad should consist of 10 players (you'll need a minimum of eight players per squad). So if you have entered both an U7 A & U7 B squad, we'll be expecting you to bring 20 players (minimum of 16). Each squad will play four matches in the league stage of the competition. A match will consist of a squad from one club playing the squad from another club in two 4 v 4 games, played at the same time on adjacent pitches. This means that 16 players would be involved in the match, not eight. The scores from both games will be combined to arrive at an overall result. EXAMPLE. An U7 A match between say, Aylesbury and Beaconsfield, might play out as follows: Aylesbury U7 A (1) v Beaconsfield U7 A (1) [4 players v 4 players] Result: 3-1 Aylesbury U7 A (2) v Beaconsfield U7 A (2) [4 players v 4 players] Result: 1-4 Combined result: Beaconsfield win the match 4-5 The combined result of each match will be used to determine the league table (as per our Tournament rules), and thus which Final each squad will play in (if they finish in the top four). Again, a Final will consist of two 4 v 4 games played simultaneously on adjacent pitches. The scores from the two games will be combined to produce the overall result of the Final. Page 7 of 10

8 PHOTOGRAPHY By entering children in this Tournament parents/guardians implicitly agree and accept that photographic images may be taken of their son/daughter during the normal course of rugby activity by accredited photographers and/or other parents/guardians. The images may be used in the local press or in club publicity, in line with the RFU guidelines for the welfare of young people in Rugby Union. NO DOGS ALLOWED We operate a strict NO DOGS policy at the grounds during this Tournament and this will be enforced. Please ensure players and their parents are aware of this policy. FOOD & DRINKS We recommended that you bring sufficient water and refreshments although food and drinks will be available to purchase on site. Page 8 of 10
