1 Monster Dash Race Guide Welcome to the 2017 Monster Dash Half Marathon, 10 Mile, 10K, 5K, 2.5K & Mt. Doom Challenge Thank you for taking part in the Monster Dash along the banks of the Mississippi River. Please read the following information carefully for your safety and for the safety of all the competitors at this year s event. We hope you have a fun on race day and check for updates. Friday October 27 th, 2017 Monster Dash Packet Pick up Time: 11:00 am 7:00 pm Location: CHS Field 360 N Broadway St. Paul, MN Monster Dash Weekend Events Schedule: Packet Pick-Up Parking: Please bring photo ID and bib number. This can be found at the Bib Look Up books at packet pick-up or online. You can also pick up bibs and race gear for your friends and family. Bring a copy of their photo ID and bib number **If you purchased mail-out, you do not need to attend packet pick-up. If you did not receive your packet in the mail, please teamorthokelly@gmail.com. 2 Half Marathon/10 Mile: Cathedral Hill (239 Selby Ave, St. Paul, MN 55102) 7:30 AM: Race Village Opens 7:45-8:15 AM: Costume Contest Half/10 Mile (Get ready to show your costume!) 8:30 AM: Half Marathon/10 Mile START Bag drop closes at 8:30 am 10K, 5K & 2.5K: CHS Field (360 N Broadway, St. Paul, MN 55101) 8:00 AM: Race Village Opens 8:15-9:00 AM: Costume Contest 5K (Get ready to show your costume!) 8:30 AM: 10K START 9:30 AM: 5K-Timed START 9:45 AM: 5K-Untimed START 9:30-1:00 PM: Post Race Party 10:30 AM: 2.5K START *All participants who want enjoy a FREE glass of Lake Monster beer should be sure to have a photo ID and wristband. Wristbands will be at all entrance tents on race day or at packet pick-up. Parking Please check our website for all up to date parking information Monster Dash Athlete Village Athlete Village is located in the Harriet Island Pavilion and will have the following areas: Bag Check Please use the clear we will provide. Please write your bib number and name on bag. Restrooms Located near Athlete Village Pre-Race Water Located inside athlete village Finish Snack & bottled water Information/Registration Answer any questions, lost children and Lost and Found articles location, Pre-Arranged Race Day Pick Up. Registration can be changed here, but a processing fee will be required plus any difference in cost. Gear Exchange Unwashed, unworn Monster Dash jackets can be exchanged at CHS Field limited sizes available. Open from 8:00am-noon Store Monster Dash gear will be for sale on race day. All sales are final. There will be a large store at CHS Field and a small store at the Cathedral. BOGO for $1 Deal! Volunteer Check In THANK YOU to all of our amazing volunteers! Post Race Party Beer is sponsored by Lake Monster Brewery. Starting Your Race Race number should be worn on the front of your shirt and outside of your clothing. 2

3 Runners will line up in their assigned start corral. A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H (Located on your bib) Please arrive to the start corral 5 minutes before the scheduled start time, corrals are spaced 3 minutes apart. Half Marathon (Starts at the Cathedral): 8:30am Race Start (See above for start corrals) 7 Water Stops (Plus start & finish) First table is Gatorade Energy Gel (GU & Hammer Gels) provided for the Half Marathon Runners at the 4th water stop at mile 8.5 Port-a-potties are located at athlete village, water stops and finish. At the finish, all racers will get their finisher s medal, snack, bottle of water & bag drop from the Cathedral. 3.5 Hr time limit No shuttles are provided from Half Marathon finish to the start 10 Mile (Starts at the Cathedral): 8:30am Race Start 5 Water Stops (Plus start & finish) Energy Gel (GU & Hammer Gels) provided for the 10 Mile Runners at the 4th water stop at mile 8.5 Port-a-potties are located at athlete village, water stops and finish. Shuttles will take you to the finish of the half marathon where you can collect your bag drop bag. 2.5 Hr time limit 10K (Starts at CHS Field): 8:30am Race Start 2 Water Stops Port-a-potties are located at athlete village and at water stops. 5K (Starts at CHS Field): 9:30 am Timed Start 9:45 am Untimed Start 1 Water Stop Port-a-potties are located at athlete village and at water stop. 3

4 2.5K (Starts at CHS Field): 10:30 am Race Start Port-a-potties are located at athlete village. Mt. Doom Challenge: 8:30 am 10K Race Start 9:45 5K Race Start 10:30 am 2.5K Start Water Stops Port-a-potties are located at athlete village and at water stops. After you finish your final race you will receive your Challenge medal at Athlete Village Prepare for running in cold temperatures Dress for the weather Hydrate properly Watch course for flag warnings Medical: o Energy Gel provided for the Half Marathon Runners at 3rd water stop Medical Aid Stations will be located on course and at the start/finish areas of the race. In addition, there will be bike patrol medical responders on the course, identifiable by their red jerseys with the white cross. If you have any additional medical concerns please check our website. Finish Line The finish line will be a secured area. Racers will receive their stained glass Finishers Medal for their distance. General Information: Monster Dash follows USATF rules; including the acceptance of ipods and other headsets during competition. For more details on rules and regulations go to If you do not complete each prescribed segment of the race, do not cross the finish line. Your timing chip is disposable. You do not need to return it. 4

5 The race director, officials, coordinators and volunteers ask all participants to be as kind and respectful as possible. Enormous effort has gone into assuring that each and every competitor has a safe, fun race. Abusive language and unsportsmanlike behavior can result in disqualification. Weather Cancellation Policy: During Monster Series events there is always the potential for extreme or severe weather conditions; lightning, tornado, high winds, extreme heat, etc. We will do as much as we can to make the experience as safe as possible. In the event of severe weather, the race may be delayed as race officials consult public safety officials. If there is more than a reasonable delay, or if conditions persist, race officials research the right to shorten or cancel the race. Entry fees are nonrefundable. Please check the website and your before the race for any changes or cancellation. If you are already at the event, listen to the announcer. Alert Flags will be placed near the Start Line o Green Low Risk o Yellow Moderate Risk o Red High Risk o Black Extreme Risk Always check your for the course conditions and current weather information Event Security: Bag drop bags will be available on race day and will be clear. You must use the provided bag on race day. We recommend participants and spectators not bring backpacks or big purses to the event. If you bring your own bag to bag check specifically, we reserve the right to inspect it for security purposes. We ask that participants and spectators be aware and respectful of sirens and emergency vehicles that may end up on the course. If you hear or see an emergency vehicle, please move to the side of the course. Team Ortho has other additional security measures in place at all points on the course.
