9 EVENT ALERT SYSTEM THIS YEAR WE HAVE INTRODUCED A COLOUR-CODED EVENT ALERT SYSTEM (EAS) FOR THE 10K, WHICH WILL BE USED TO COMMUNICATE THE STATUS OF CONDITIONS ON RACE DAY. The levels range from Low (green) to Moderate (yellow) to High (red) to Extreme (black) based on the weather and other course conditions. On race day, the current status will be communicated via colour-coded flags in a number of places including the Red and Blue baggage areas, plus the start area so keep an eye out for them. YOU VE GOT YOUR PLACE, NOW MAKE IT A LIFE CHANGING RACE We advise participants to familiarise themselves with the EAS prior to the race, remain aware for directions from event staff and take precautions to prepare properly for varying weather or course conditions on race day. 10 GETTING READY FOR RACE DAY IT S IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE SOME TIME TO PREPARE FOR THE BIG DAY, SO THAT YOU ENJOY EVERY SECOND. We re with you every step of the way, so here s a few top tips and handy hints on the days leading up to race day and the night before. LEADING UP TO RACE DAY - Stick to your training plan, if you ve missed a few training runs don t worry just bank those kilometres, move on and consider tapering. - You may wish to increase your carbs in the days before the race. Increase the amount of good quality carbs you eat, making up 60-70% of your daily calorie intake. - Hydration Drink water little and often daily in the week before the race. Start the race well hydrated and be prepared for warmer weather. - Avoid alcohol for the final 48-hours before race day and start the race hydrated. THE NIGHT BEFORE It s the night before the run so here s your handy checklist: - Lay out your running gear and pin your race number to your top with the safety pins in your race pack. Race day is NOT the day to try out those brand new shorts or vest! - Avoid alcohol before race day and start the race hydrated. - Check the weather forecast do you need a hat, sunnies and suncream, or your wet weather gear? Be prepared! - Have you arranged a post-race meeting point for your family / friends / cheer squad? - Pack a small race day bag you ll probably want a comfy change of clothes, a drink and snack to keep you going after you ve finished the run. Enjoy it, we ll see you on the start line! Brooks DNA cushioning dynamically reacts to your specific weight, pace, gait and running surface to give you a customized ride and super-soft landing. So put your feet into the Glycerin 14 and get some serious cushiness. 18

Martin is an experienced coach, working with people of all abilities and aspirations from first time finishers, PB hunters to aspiring champions, so you re in safe hands. HERE ARE MARTIN S TOP 5 TIPS YOUR PERSONAL BEST AWAITS 1. Eat a light breakfast: cereal, porridge, a bagel, banana or toast 2 hours or so before the event; this will kick start your metabolism and supply your body with energy. 2. Stick to what you know, don t change your eating habits on race morning. 3. Thirst is a really good indicator of hydration if you are thirsty, then drink! 4. Start the race well hydrated, but be careful not to drink too much, there s no need to glug litres of fluid prior to the start, trust your body. 5. Finish the race at a steady pace and go for a gentle warm down jog after you have recovered, this should reduce stiffness in the days after the race.
