2 THURSDAY 14 JULY :15 STANDARD CHARTERED GREAT CITY RACE Welcome to the Standard Chartered Great City Race. We are looking forward to seeing you on the Start Line on Thursday 14 July. On the evening of the race the roads within the Square Mile will be closed to traffic, giving you an excellent opportunity to see some of London s great landmarks at close quarters including Tower 42, the Bank of England, Guildhall and St Paul s Cathedral. The Honourable Artillery Company Ground lawns are the perfect assembly area before and after the race. We hope you and your colleagues will stay on after the event as there will be drinks available, plus music and entertainment that will continue well into the evening. We hope you have a great time! 3 BEFORE THE EVENT Running Number Pin your number to the front of your T-shirt or running vest using the safety pins provided in your pack. Spare pins will be available at the Information Tent on the day. You must not, under any circumstances, use someone else s running number, nor let someone else use yours. Imagine the anxiety caused to either set of relatives and friends in the event of misidentification should there be a medical emergency. The entry system for the race closes on Tuesday 5 July at 17:00, and runners can be substituted up to this time. Please note that London Marathon Events Ltd, the organisers of the Standard Chartered Great City Race, reserves the right to disqualify runners who have swapped numbers. IPICO Sports Tag Your IPICO Sports Tag, along with two wire twist ties, is enclosed with this pack. Fix this to your running shoe in accordance with the instructions on page six. Remember, no tag means no time. Before Leaving Work Make sure you have the following items before you leave for the race: running number and safety pins, IPICO Sports Tag and these instructions. If you lose any of these items before the race they can be replaced you should come to the Information Tent as soon as you arrive at the Honourable Artillery Company Ground. Deciding Not To Run Please remember that it is very foolish to run if you have had any sort of virus or fever in the last four weeks. It is equally foolish to run with an injury in these circumstances, please DO NOT run. If you decide not to run for any reason, you must return your IPICO Sports Tag. Please use the special Freepost envelope enclosed with this pack. 4 ON THE DAY Getting There The start/assembly area is situated at the Honourable Artillery Company Ground, just 500m away from Moorgate Station. There are two main entrances to the site: one on Finsbury Street, just off Chiswell Street, and one on Bunhill Row. Driving to the event is not recommended as parking is restricted and from 18:30 until 20:30 road closures will be in place around the race route. From Moorgate Underground Station Walk north along Moorgate for around 250m then turn left into Chiswell Street and the main entrance is on your right. From Old Street Underground Station Take the exit marked Honourable Artillery Company and walk south down City Road until you reach Bunhill Fields Cemetery, then turn right and continue to the end of the cemetery. Turn left and you will arrive at the Bunhill Row entrance. From Barbican Underground Station From the main exit, cross Aldersgate Street and walk along Beech Street for approximately 400m. The road then becomes Chiswell Street. Walk for another 50m and the main entrance is on your left. From Liverpool Street Station Exit from the Liverpool Street entrance and proceed west towards Blomfield Street. Turn right and follow the road left into Eldon Street. Continue west along Eldon Street for 100m. The road then becomes South Place. At the traffic lights turn right onto Finsbury Pavement then at the next set of traffic lights turn left into Chiswell Street. The main entrance will be on your right. By Bus The nearest bus stops within walking distance of the HAC Ground are as follows: Old Street / City Road for buses: 21, 43, 76, 141, 205, 214, 271 Liverpool Street Bus Station for buses: 11, 23, 133, 153, 214, 344 Liverpool Street / Bishopsgate for buses: 8, 26, 35, 42, 47, 48, 78, 135, 149, 242, 344, 388 For more information, call or visit Start/Assembly Area Once inside the Honourable Artillery Company Ground you will be directed around the assembly field by signs and our PA system. There are toilets, changing facilities (please note there are no showers), meeting points and an Information Tent. There will also be a stage with music throughout the evening. Warming Up There is a great warm up arranged on the stage in the main assembly field. Make sure you join in as it s an enjoyable way to loosen up and stretch out muscles before the race. Your Belongings We do have a changing facility but cannot accept any responsibility for any items left inside. We suggest that you leave any valuables with a friend or colleague who is coming to support you. The Start The Standard Chartered Great City Race starts at 19:15; from 18:50 you will be encouraged to line up ready for the 4 CR Final Instructions 2016V2.indd 4 15/06/ :40

5 start inside the Honourable Artillery Company Ground. Pace signs will instruct you where you should line up at the start. Faster runners based on predicted finish time will have a coloured sticker on their running number and will be directed to a faster zone. Find the sign that corresponds to your intended pace and line up there. Do not attempt to promote yourself to a faster zone. You will then be walked forward to the Start Line under the guidance of our event marshals. Late Starters Please ensure you arrive in good time for the race start at 19:15. We are not in a position to allow late starters, as the roads must reopen to traffic immediately after the race. The Course See the map on page eight for details; you will be guided at all times by barriers, cones and marshals. Each kilometre will be clearly marked. The Finish After crossing the Finish Line you will return to the Honourable Artillery Company Ground to collect your finisher s bag containing Buxton Natural Mineral Water, your finisher s medal and various food and drink items. Teams of marshals will be collecting the IPICO Sports Tag from runners on the main field after the race. Please help by giving up your tag when you see our marshals. Teams will also be positioned to collect the IPICO Sports Tag at each exit gate from the Honourable Artillery Company Ground. Finisher T-shirts All finishers will receive a sized T-shirt, which you should collect from the Finisher T-shirt Collection Tent (see map on page seven) after you finish the race. ONE FOR THE ROAD Fuller s and Standard Chartered Bank have teamed up to offer all runners a well-earned complimentary drink, so after the race why not relax with a pint or, if you prefer, a soft drink. In order to take advantage of this fantastic offer, please see your company captain who will hand over a voucher to you, which can then be exchanged at the Fuller s London Pride bar for your drink. 6 START & ASSEMBLY AREA, Picnics The Honourable Artillery Company Ground is a great venue for a post-race picnic. There s no parking on site but you are free to bring whatever you and your teammates can carry. No BBQs are permitted. First Aid First Aid will be available at the Finish Line and at various points on the race course. There will also be a First Aid Point inside the Honourable Artillery Company Ground throughout the evening. Results Results will be online at from 12:00 on Friday 15 July. Prizes Individual prizes will be awarded on the night to the first, second and third placed male and female finishers. Team prizes for the first team in the men s, women s and mixed team categories will be awarded after verification of the team results. Please make sure that you run across the mats at the Start Line, at the split locations throughout the race and at the Finish Line. STEP 1 Loosen the laces of one of your running shoes. STEP 2 Thread the wire twist ties under the laces. STEP 3 Thread the IPICO Sports Tag onto the wire twist ties. 8 RACE COURSE PLEASE NOTE Due to ongoing Crossrail works taking place in the Moorgate area (highlighted on the map in yellow) the final section towards the finish will be narrow. The route will be clearly marked for your safety and marshals will advise you as you approach. Please take care at this point and be mindful of fellow runners.
