2 Virgin Money London Marathon 2018 Parkinson s UK Supporters Guide Thank you for supporting our team in this year s Virgin Money London Marathon. It means a lot to us and our runners! The runners have put so much into training and fundraising and they re spurred on by your support. So we want to make it nice and easy for you to cheer them on. This booklet tells you how to find our cheering points. We ve also included suggested arrival times, for when runners will begin to pass each point. Most cheerers make a day of it, and then meet up with their runner at our post-race reception. We d love to see you there. Before the big day, your runner will pick up their race number from the London Marathon Expo. You can also visit us on stand 390 to pick up your T-shirts, flags and other items. Our team is on target to raise 325,000 for people with Parkinson s. Without their support and yours we couldn t keep doing what we do. We can answer your questions on or events@parkinsons.org.uk See these pages for more details: Virgin Money London Marathon Expo 4 Greenwich mile Westferry mile 14 8 Canary Wharf mile Embankment mile Strand Palace Hotel post-race reception 14
3 Where to be Our cheering points are within walking distance of the nearest DLR or underground stations. It s best to use public transport, because there is little or no parking near the official start and finish lines or Parkinson s UK cheering points. Just look for our blue and white banners and balloons. If anyone in your party has mobility issues, our cheering points at Greenwich, Westferry or Canary Wharf have full disabled access. What to bring Remember your waterproof coat and an umbrella, just in case. Pack your sunglasses and sun cream we don t want you to burn. Take drinks and snacks there may not be shops close by, and you ll want to stay energised. Wear comfortable shoes, as you may be standing up for most of the day. Don t forget your camera it s a day to remember. Westferry is our recommendation as it tends to be quieter too, so you can get to the front! CHEER! 3
4 Virgin Money London Marathon Expo Wednesday 18 April Saturday 21 April ExCeL London Opening hours: Wednesday 11am 8pm Thursday 10am 8pm Friday 10am 8pm Saturday 9am 5pm All runners need to visit the Expo to collect their race number and timing chip. Pick up top tips for those final marathon preparations and hear from the world s most inspiring runners. There s also dozens of exhibitors to see, from major sporting brands to the massage area! 4 Visit us on stand 390 to pick up cheering materials and meet the Events team before the big day! You can also meet other runners in our team and write your own marathon message. GET READY
5 Travelling to the Expo ExCeL is easily accessible by road, rail, bus, tube and car. As roads in London can be very busy we recommend using public transport if possible. ExCeL is in Transport for London zone 3. By road If driving, follow signs for Royal Docks, City Airport and ExCeL. There is easy access from the M25, M11, A406 and A13. For satnav purposes, use postcode E16 1DR. Onsite pay-and-display car parking is available ( 15 for up to 24 hours). 5
