2 THE BIG HALF IS A BRAND NEW ONE DAY FESTIVAL ON SUNDAY 4 MARCH 2018 WHICH WILL BE A TRULY GLOBAL AND UNIQUELY LOCAL CELEBRATION OF THE WONDERFUL CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF THE GREAT CITY OF LONDON. Created by London Marathon Events Limited, in partnership with Sported, the festival is centred around a half marathon running event which is bringing together some of the world s best athletes, including Sir Mo Farah, and thousands of mass participation runners of all backgrounds and abilities. The race for up to 15,000 runners starts at 09:00 by Tower Bridge, passes through Tower Hamlets, Southwark and Lewisham before finishing at the iconic Cutty Sark in Greenwich. The day also includes The Little Half, a 2.4 mile fun run for all ages and abilities, and The Big Relay, a race for teams of four, where each person will run one leg of the course. Advice for residents Some essential road closures that may affect your location are required as part of the event route. This publication provides details of the road closures and the 18 vehicle crossing points through the route that will operate during specific times on the day to allow you access to your property. Please read this leaflet and keep it in a handy place to help you plan ahead for the weekend. Please note: to ensure a safe event, parking bays along the route will be suspended and residents are advised to relocate their vehicles prior to the road closure time to a suitable location. Any vehicle left on the route or parked in a suspended parking bay will be removed. Bands and entertainers will be performing along the route and the day will conclude with live music, food and activities for all the family at The Big Festival near the Finish Area in Greenwich Park until 16:00. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun along the route and at The Big Festival for free, so please do come along and enjoy the day. Advance warning signs will be displayed in affected roads in the build up to The Big Half and stewards will be present on the day itself to help answer your queries. 6 TOWER HAMLETS WAPPING & THE HIGHWAY Road closures from 05:00 to 12:30 LIMEHOUSE & WESTFERRY Road closures from 05:00 to 12:30 Residents and businesses in Wapping will be affected as the route passes along the Highway between the Start Line and mile two and then returns via The Highway, Garnet Street, Wapping High Street and Thomas More Street. Four vehicle crossing points within the road closures will operate throughout the day to allow residents access. However, the vehicle crossing points will be closed during the following times to allow runners to pass safely. Vaughan Way Dock Street 1 Closed for runners from 08:45 to 09:45 Wapping Lane Cannon Street Road 2 Closed for runners from 08:45 to 10:00 Glamis Road 3 Closed for runners from 08:45 to 11:25 Residents and businesses in Limehouse and Westferry will be affected by the route as it passes through Westferry Road, Limehouse Causeway and Narrow Street. There will be one vehicle crossing point at Three Colt Street open until 08:55 and reopening at approximately 11:10. It s closed between this time to allow runners to pass safely. This vehicle crossing point will allow access for residents, who are located south of Limehouse Causeway and are otherwise landlocked by the event. Horseferry Road, normally one way, will be temporarily made two-way for traffic for the duration of the road closures to allow access for residents who usually park in that area. After costs, 100 per cent of LMEL s surplus is gifted to The London Marathon Charitable Trust to provide funding for sport and recreational facilities in your area and beyond. Established in 1981, The Trust has allocated almost 11 million to more than 320 projects in Greenwich, Lewisham, Southwark, and Tower Hamlets. The projects include the Charlton Lido community gym, the Community Centre at Abbotshall, the refurbishment of Southwark Park Sports Complex, and the community sport building in Victoria Park. thebighalf.co.uk

7 SOUTHWARK TOOLEY STREET & JAMAICA Road closures from 07:00 to 14:00 THERHITHE PENINSULA Road closures from 07:00 to 14:00 Residents and businesses in Tooley Street and Jamaica Road will be affected as the route enters Tooley Street from Tower Bridge Road and continues to head eastbound towards Rotherhithe Tunnel. Those premises north of Tooley Street and Jamaica Road have four vehicle crossing points which are available within the event road closures apart from between the specific times listed. Shad Thames 6 Closed for runners from 09:00 to 11:55 Mill Street 7 Closed for runners from 09:00 to 11:55 Bevington Street 8 Closed for runners from 09:05 to 12:00 Residents and businesses in Rotherhithe Peninsula will be affected as the route passes along Brunel Road, Rupack Street, St Marychurch Street, Rotherhithe Street, Swan Road, Salter Road, Quebec Way, Canada Street, Surrey Quays Road and Redriff Road between mile eight and eleven. Rotherhithe Tunnel is open throughout the day north and southbound, and Jamaica Road will be open in a westbound direction only. Access to Hawkstone Road in a southbound direction from Lower Road will also be available while the event road closures are in place. For those residents who are landlocked by the road closure, four vehicle crossing points will operate to allow resident access during specific times. 8 LEWISHAM LOWER & EVELYN STREET Road closures from 07:00 to 14:00 GREENWICH CREEK Road closures from 07:00 to 15:00 Residents and businesses in Lewisham will be affected by the route as it passes through Lower Road and Evelyn Street in between mile 11 and 12. There are three vehicle crossing points located within Lewisham to aid the access of residents who live north of the event route. There is also a fourth vehicle crossing point located at Plough Way which residents of Lewisham can utilise via Grove Street. Plough Way Rotherhithe New Road 13 Closed for runners from 09:15 to 13:05 Rainsborough Avenue Alloa Road 14 Closed for runners from 09:15 to 13:10 Prince Street Abinger Grove 15 Closed for runners from 09:20 to 13:35 Deptford High Street 16 Watergate Street Closed for runners from 09:20 to 13:40 Residents and businesses in Creek Road and north of Creek Road will be affected by the route as it approaches the Finish Line at the Cutty Sark. To help access and to assist residents, two vehicle crossing points will operate apart from between the specific times listed when runners will be passing. Creekside Gonson Street 17 Closed for runners from 09:20 to 13:45 Norman Road Norway Street 18 Restricted access from 09:25 to 13:50 Where possible, local access will be maintained throughout the day at the Norman Road Norway Street crossing point. However, there may be some delay at the peak time, which is anticipated to be from 10:30 to 12:30 when the vast majority of runners will pass. GREENWICH TOWN CENTRE Greenwich Town Centre will be closed to traffic from 07:00 to 15:00 although a local bus service will be maintained on Romney Road, Nelson Road and Greenwich High Road throughout the day. Local access for residents and businesses not directly on the event route will be maintained, but no vehicle access will be permitted into Romney Road or Nelson Road other than local bus services.
