1 Travel in Newham will be affected during the Games Olympic Games: 27 July 12 August 2012 Paralympic Games: 29 August 9 September 2012 Transport for London

2 Plan ahead for easier journeys This year brings the largest sporting event in the world to the UK the Olympic and Paralympic Games. During this time, London will become a massive sporting and cultural venue, with up to one million more visitors expected in the Capital each day. Roads and public transport will be much busier than usual and we will be working hard to help host a great Games and to keep London moving. The information here will help you understand where the transport network will be busiest and how your journey could be affected. The Olympic and Paralympic Route Network (ORN/PRN) and Games Lanes The ORN/PRN is a network of roads connecting venues, accommodation and transport hubs across London and will be open to all normal traffic. A number of temporary road changes will be in place to ensure reliable journeys for athletes and officials. In Newham, these changes will include banned right turns, suspended bus lanes, relocated bus stops and changes to loading and parking. Some roads on the ORN/PRN will also have a designated Games Lane. These will be clearly signposted and will only be available for use by accredited vehicles including athletes, officials, media and blue light emergency vehicles when in operation. The adjacent lane will be open to normal traffic. In Newham, Games Lanes will be on sections of the ORN/PRN along Stratford High Street and Great Eastern Road. Games Lanes will typically be in operation and enforced between 06:00 and midnight, but this will vary in some cases (check the times of operation on the roadside signs). Vehicles that are driven in the Games Lanes, load, park or stop illegally on the ORN/PRN will be removed and will face a 130 Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). To avoid being issued with a PCN, motorists should not drive in the Games Lanes when they are operational. They will be easily identifiable by clear markings on the Lanes and signs along the roadside. Key dates In the weeks leading up to the Games, a large programme of temporary changes to the road network need to be implemented: From 1 July, road markings will start to be put down along the ORN but these will not change the operation of the roads. Adjustments to over 1,300 sets of traffic signals will also begin from 1 July, before traffic levels significantly increase as thousands of athletes and media descend on the Capital. These adjustments will have minimal impact on road users as they will be balanced out by the complete ban on all planned roadworks along the ORN and on A and B roads. To ensure as little disruption to local residents and road users as possible, the physical changes along the ORN, including installing temporary traffic islands and barriers to simplify junctions will be mostly carried out at night. This will start at 21:00 on Friday 20 July and finish the morning of Wednesday 25 July. The operation and enforcement of the ORN, including the Games Lanes, will begin on Wednesday 25 July, a couple of days before the Opening Ceremony. It will end operation a couple of days after the Olympic Games and will not be in operation between the Olympics and Paralympics. The smaller Paralympic Route Network (PRN) will come into operation just a couple of days before the Paralympic Games. Once Games events are completed at a venue, such as Wimbledon, the ORN will be removed. There will be additional changes to roads and local parking around Olympic venues. These are being put in place by the organisers of London 2012 to ensure that resident and business parking is protected and the venues can operate safely. Full details of changes and timings can be found at london2012.com/local-residents.

4 Olympic and ExCeL venue A parking protection area for local residents and businesses is being introduced across the whole borough during the Games. In advance and during the Games, parking controls will operate from 08:00 to 21:00, seven days a week. These changes to parking and local access will discourage spectators from parking in the area and help minimise disruption. There will be additional restrictions around the venue for security and operational reasons. For example, there are proposals to restrict access on Angel Lane, Leyton Road, Rick Roberts Way, Manor Road and a section of Warton Road except for resident and business access permit holders. Spectator walking routes will be very busy before and after events. The Greenway will be closed to the public between Stratford High Street and Wick Lane. There will be no access at Victoria Gate (Wick Lane end) from 30 April and at the eastern end (by Pudding Mill Lane station) from 18 May. Access will be restored in October Road events Some Olympic and Paralympic events will take place on London s streets. Race routes and surrounding roads will be closed to traffic, however emergency and local access will be maintained as far as possible. Road closures in the City of London will begin from early in the morning with roads re-opening after the race as soon as it is safe to do so. Local parking and vehicle access will be restricted during these events. When road events take place on the ORN/PRN, athletes, officials, workers and media will use alternative routes. Olympic Torch Relay The Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Newham on Saturday 21 July. There will be rolling road closures as it travels through the borough. Advice for road users Roads in central London, around the ORN and Olympic venues will be very busy during the Games. Those affected by road events will be closed for periods at a time. Drivers are advised: To avoid central London, the area around the ORN and Olympic venues from mid-july That every day of the Games is different, so if driving is essential, plan ahead and allow more time for your journey To avoid the areas surrounding the road events on competition days If using buses during the Games, especially those with routes near to Olympic venues or the ORN/PRN, please check for any diversions that may affect your journey Plan your journeys during the Games by using the Temporary Road Changes tool at GetAheadoftheGames.com. The central London Congestion Charge will continue to be in operation Monday to Friday between 07:00-18:00 (except public holidays) throughout the Games. The charge is 10 a day if you pay in advance or on the day of travel. To pay the charge and for more detailed information, including a map of the charging zone, visit cclondon.com Public transport Some stations and lines will be particularly busy, including Stratford, Stratford International, West Ham, Canning Town, Custom House and Prince Regent. The Jubilee and Central lines will be much busier than normal. You can minimise disruption to your journey by avoiding affected stations at the busiest times. In addition, Pudding Mill Lane Station will be closed throughout the Games (14 July-12 September) and Maryland station will be closed during the Olympic Games only. Buses will run more frequently on many routes to cater for additional passengers during the Games. However, some bus services will need to be temporarily diverted and some stops moved or suspended as a result of the road changes that will be in place, such as for the ORN or road events. In your area Stratford City bus station will be closed during the Games. Bus routes 97, 241, 339 and D8 will serve Stratford bus station instead. Route 276 will be diverted via Hermit Road, Grange Road and Upper Road due to the part closure of Manor Road. Routes 97, 158 and 308 will use Major Road in both directions rather than Leyton Road. Routes 308, W15 and N26 will use Eastway and Lee Conservancy Road due to the restricted right turn from Ruckholt Road into Homerton Road. In addition, during road events, such as the Marathon, some bus routes to and from central London may be affected and may be on diversion, terminate early or be temporarily suspended. Please leave more time for your bus journeys and plan in advance to understand how your whole journey may be affected. Information will be available nearer the time at affected bus stops and online.

5 Plan your journeys To find out more about how roads and public transport will be affected and how to get around more easily visit GetAheadoftheGames.com. You can also sign up for free alerts to help you plan your journeys at Games time. Alternatively, follow us on or call * * You pay no more than 5p per minute if calling from a BT landline. There may be a connection charge. Charges from mobiles or other landline providers may vary. All information correct at time of going to print June 2012.
