1 Hit The Road 2018 Frog and Toad Meet at Mile End Park. See joining instructions for more details. Sign in so that we know you are there. Chat with friends who you haven t seen since last year and OFF WE GO!!! Up the steps and across the Mile End Road via the Garden Bridge. From here bear left to go down to walk along the side of the canal. Continue for just over ½ mile and then turn right to walk along Hertford Union Canal. Page 1

2 Continue along the Hertford Union Canal towards the Queen Elizabeth Park. When you get to the road, turn right and across the bridge. Continue along the road and under the bridge. Then turn right into the Olympic Park. Walk across the park as shown. Past the London Aquatics Centre on your left and the Arcelor Mittal Orbit on your right. You will pass a café with toilets close to the Arcelor Mittal Orbit. Public toilets Continue almost as far as you can go and then go down the steps. Beyond this you will see a footpath closed sign. Cross the road at the small roundabout and continue down to Stratford High Street via Warton Road. Page 2

3 When you reach Stratford High Street, Cross the Road and turn right. You will soon see The Greenway. You will continue along the Greenway for about 2.5 miles. You will pass Newham Hospital on your right. Look for Brampton Manor Academy on the right. After this, you need to take the first exit from the Greenway on the right. Walk along Stokes Road and then turn left into Roman Road and then right into Noel Road. You will then cross the A13 using the footbridge. When you come off the footbridge, turn left and you will immediately take a footpath on the left. Page 3

4 Continue as shown along small roads and footpaths. At Tollgate Road, continue straight across and along footpaths again. Continue until you get to Stansfield Road. Turn left on to a footpath. Turn right at the first footpath on the right. Follow the path round and then turn right again. You can see from map that if you get to Parry Road, you have gone a bit too far but you could turn right here to get back on track. Possible toilets in sports centre?? Page 4

5 At the end of this footpath, you will see Beckton Park Station opposite. Don t go into the station. Turn left and walk along Strait Road. At the end of Strait Road turn right and walk through Cyprus Station and into UEL. Walk through UEL until you get to the water (Gallion s Point Marina). Turn left and walk along the marina. When you come to the Sir Steven Redgrave Bridge, cross the marina here. Page 5

6 Continue across a smaller bridge. If you look to the left, you will see the Thames which is where you are heading. Cross the road and turn left into Fishguard Way. There is a gate here and a button opposite to open it. Public toilets Continue straight across to get to the Thames. Turn right and walk along the side of the Thames. Keep as close to the Thames as you can. You will see the Woolwich Ferry which is where the Woolwich foot tunnel is. Page 6

7 Entrance to Woolwich Foot Tunnel. Cross the river via the Woolwich Foot Tunnel. When you exit the tunnel, you will need to head in the direction of Richmond. Don t worry, you are not walking that far!! Turn right out of the tunnel and right again and through Woolwich ambulance station. You will see the again. Cross over and go past this down to the Thames again. If you are doing the 11 mile walk from Woolwich, your instructions start here. Continue alongside the Thames and you will see the Thames Barrier. It looks like you can get there along the Thames but BEWARE, you can t. You will pass some cannons and then after this some steps and a slope to continue. 11 mile walkers join here 11 mile walkers should walk along here from Woolwich Arsenal DLE station Page 7

8 Soon after the cannons, you will see a sign to turn off the Thames Path on Thames Path Interim route. Don t be tempted to continue as you will have to go back. The diversion is very well signposted and you will return to the Thames just after the Thames Barrier. You will pass along Harlinger Street, Ruston Road and Woolwich Road. You will pass the Windrush School and Royal Greenwich Trust School. At the little park, turn right (as indicated). When you get close to the Thames Barrier, bear left and head back to the Thames. McDonalds From here, you will continue along the Thames towards the O2. You will be able to see the Emirates cable car and should soon see the TCT balloons (if they didn t lose them all at the start) and the start of the short walk. Meeting Point for Short Walk Page 8

10 You will soon see this sign. The sign says to turn right towards Cutty Sark but the path is blocked because of building work. So turn left and follow the path to the road which is the main road into the Blackwall Tunnel. These signs should help you to find your way. Page 10

11 You will be on the main road into the Blackwall Tunnel for a while and then move to a parallel road, Tunnel Ave. You will pass the Meantime Brewery. Continue along Blackwall Lane. You will see a sign directing you right to follow the Thames Path. Please IGNORE IT and continue along Blackwall Lane to the end. Turn right into Trafalgar Road. Page 11

12 Continue along Trafalgar Road and cross over to turn left into Maze Hill. You will see it is signposted to Maze Hill Station. You are coming to a STEEP HILL!!! If you really cannot face his hill, please enter the park at the first gate and walk across where you can meet your friends when they leave the park. Just past Maze Hill Station, you will see Greenwich Park. Enter the park and continue in the same direction, up the hill. You should pass 2 park gates on the left. When you get to the next one, turn right and follow the path across the park. At the road, turn right and head down towards the Royal Observatory. Follow the path down the hill and out of the park. Continue along King William Walk and down towards the river. You will pass the Cutty Sark. Continue to the Greenwich foot tunnel. Head down the Greenwich Foot Tunnel and across the river. Page 12

13 When you exit the foot tunnel, walk straight across towards Island Gardens DLR station. Bear left and enter Millwall Park. Keep to the paths on the left and exit the park near Mudchute Sation. Follow Spindrift Ave until you see a sign for South Quay. Turn right and walk along this footpath. Page 13

14 When you get to the water, make sure that you follow the path on the right. Cross the dock at Glengall Bridge. Turn right and continue to walk along Millwall Inner Dock to Marsh Way. Page 14

15 At Marsh Wall, cross the road and continue through the buildings to South Dock. Turn left and cross the South Dock at the bridge. Walk through the Obica building and at the other end continue straight and pass Canary Wharf Station on your right. Page 15

16 Turn left and follow the Middle Dock. Turn right and cross Cabot Square and down the steps to the bridge. Turn left off the bridge, continue past the Museum of London Docklands to the Ledger Building Page 16
