2 Event overview ROGAINING? The Santos Take a Breather Charity Challenge involves Rogaining, an adventure sport for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Asthma Foundation SA have partnered with Santos and the South Australian Rogaining Association (SARA) to host this annual event. Teams of 4 navigate with a map and compass to collect points at hidden markers. Strategic planning, networking, and teamwork come into play as teams traverse rolling hills, creeks, ridges, and farmland, breathing in the fresh air with fabulous views. Both community and corporate entrants are welcome. CAMPING & ACCOMMODATION You do not have to camp overnight. However, if you would like to, we suggest you make accommodation arrangements early. Please contact Kuitpo Forest Information Centre. More information can be found at: forestrysa.sa.gov.au CHILDREN All children are welcome to join in. Children under the age of 15 will receive free event entry. Children need to be registered and accounted for, for OH&S and catering purposes. We recommend that children be eight years of age or older. Teams with children can be teams of 6 maximum, with a maximum of 4 adults per team. WHEN Saturday, 1 August hr Rogaine + 3 course dinner WHERE Kuitpo Forest, in the picturesque Mount Lofty Ranges GETTING THERE Kuitpo Forest is situated in the South Mount Lofty Ranges, 45 minutes drive from Adelaide, near the township of Meadows. From Adelaide take Main South Road Turn off to Clarendon and Meadows Then turn off to Echunga and Meadows OR Take the South Eastern Freeway to Hahndorf Then turn off to Echunga and Meadows When you arrive, marshals shall give you parking instructions. CATERING Breakfast snacks will be available and Hudsons will host a coffee cart in the morning; each for a gold coin donation. Water and fruit will be provided at several locations along the course for competitors. A hot 3 course meal and drinks will be available at the Hash House at the end of the event from 4:30pm. Please bring your own mug, wine glass, plate and cutlery, these items will not be provided for you. The Hash House meal is provided strictly for paid rogaining competitors (Non competitors may pay $20 per head on the day, payable to Admin). 3 Fundraising Asthma is one of the most widespread chronic health conditions in Australia. One in 10 children and adults are affected. Tragically, approximately 400 people still die from asthma in Australia each year, despite 70% of these deaths being considered to have preventable factors. All the funds you raise will support Asthma Foundation SA to provide services, education and support to children and adults living with asthma. Asthma Foundation SA does not receive any State Government funding and less than 15% of funding comes from the Federal government. Asthma Foundation SA relies on public donations, bequests and the support of our generous corporate partners to fund its core community programs and services. Your fundraising efforts are greatly appreciated and will help Asthma Foundation SA continue to help more South Australians to breathe better. BE OUR Asthma Foundation SA will help you set up your individual and team Everyday Hero fundraising pages. Need some fundraising ideas? BBQ/Sausage Sizzle - hold a BBQ at work charging a small donation from all who participate. Casual Day - hold a casual day at your workplace and charge a small donation from all who participate. Hold a baking or cook-off in your office at lunch time, and charge an entrance fee. Collection Box - have an Asthma Foundation SA collection box in your workplace to encourage your colleagues to donate their loose change. Raffles! Source prizes from your suppliers and local businesses and raffle items off to your colleagues. Swear Box - have a swear box in your workplace and fine those who fire off a colourful word. Individuals who raise over $400 on their Everyday Hero fundraising page will be refunded their registration fee! Thank you for being an Asthma Foundation SA everyday hero! INDIVIDUAL FUNDRAISING INCENTIVE If an individual raises $400 or more, their registration fee will be reimbursed. TEAM FUNDRAISING INCENTIVES If your team of four collectively raises; $1500* = You will receive a SARA Rogaining coach for 30 mins on the morning of the TBCC, to help you plan your route. $3000^ = a SARA Rogaining expert will arrange to meet with your team (for 1 Hour) pre-event to conduct a personal tips and tricks session, and then they will help you towards your first check point. $5000 = you will receive a special Golden Ticket on the day with a secret clue sheet to help you find some controls faster (not capped). The top fundraising team can nominate one control prior to the start and can hitch a ride in the Asthma Car to a selected location (this will be dependent on road access - we will take you as close as we can). * only available to the first 5 teams who raise $1500 ^ only available to the first 3 teams who raise $3000 TEAM BONUS POINT INCENTIVES FOR THE DAY 50 bonus points = Wear your corporate gear to the event and dress in your corporate colours 100 bonus points = For the best dressed team on the day $700,000 is invested in research annually by Asthma Australia. Over 1,000 people in SA attended asthma information sessions.
4 tips & tricks The South Australian Rogaining Association has kindly offered to provide an indoor and outdoor Tips and Tricks training session in the weeks prior to the event for those who want to get serious, or to learn the basics! RSVP FOR TIPS & TRICKS SESSIONS TODAY! Call Holly on or OUTDOOR TRAINING SESSION Outdoor Training Session Saturday, 27 June 2015 TBC - early afternoon to early evening Woodside Scout Area ($20pp entry fee) Activities: Pace counting exercise. Compass and distance map exercise - short distance navigation exercises to practice your compass skills and use the pace counting skill. A short distance pre-marked 1:10,000 scaled map (A4) giving you a prepared route map with some options for extra controls. An (A3) Full Rogaine Woodside Scout Area course map - 1: scale (similar to the upcoming 5hr Bush Rogaine). There will be a number of training sheets which can be worked on at the site or taken home to look at, at your leisure. A practice string line route marking exercise will be available. Rogaining volunteers will be on site giving talks about the sport and answering your queries and giving advice on how they run rogaining events. INDOOR TRAINING SESSION Tuesday, 20 July :00pm - 7:00pm Santos Building L12, 60 Flinders St, Adelaide Drinks and pizza provided This session will cover: What is rogaining? What does a map look like? Stages of the event: planning, execution & adaption Ways to navigate (contours, pace counting, features) What to wear Food & health tips Event procedures Taking time off work for asthma? 50% said yes.
5 equipment checklist COMPULSORY SAFETY EQUIPMENT One First Aid Kit per team 1 whistle per person 1 emergency foil blanket per person 2 roller bandages per person TIP Print this checklist to make sure you have everything you need prior to the event. Competitors will not be allowed out onto the course without these items. Whistles and bandages will be available for sale at administration on the day. Please bring small change if you need to purchase any of these items at the event. Change will be limited. First aid kits will not be sold at the event. GENERAL EQUIPMENT Eating utensils for Hash House (plate, bowl, mug, knife, spoon, fork and wine glass) Water. Enough required for your personal use, at least 2 litres per person Planning items: paper, pens, highlighter, scissors, map measurer, string, and push pins Compass (use of a GPS unit during the event is not permitted - but may be used to record your track) Watch and pencil Energy food Mobile phone* NAVLIGHT WRIST BANDS A wrist band will be given to team members when you arrive at the event. SUGGESTED CLOTHING Bring thermal top and bottom, waterproof jacket and pants, just in case Walking boots, gaiters, sunscreen, hat, day-pack Bring a change of clothing and shoes for after the event. * MOBILE PHONE USE Mobile phones are great for photos, and are recommended for use in emergencies, or to contact the event organises in the event of an injury or late return. Use of a mobile phone for navigational assistance (eg. GPS) is strictly prohibited. Do you have questions about asthma? 3,500 people call every year ASTHMA. ( )

SAFETY AND PHONE COVERAGE Please ensure you carry your compulsory safety equipment at all times. Head torches (and spare batteries) are recommended given that it will be dark just after the competition finishes and may be useful if you are running late. Check the weather forecasts and plan to take the appropriate wet weather gear if required. There will be on-course locations marked on your map where water will be available to refill drink bottles. Mobile phone reception will vary, dependant on course location, and the carrier you are with. ALL COMPETITORS MUST ABIDE BY THE RULES AND RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY. We are able to run this event by the generosity of the local landowners, please respect their land and property. You are guests on their land; please repay their trust by respecting the following simple rules: Competitors should not pass within 100 metres of a dwelling Keep out of areas marked out of bounds Keep clear of livestock, change your course to avoid herding animals No fires (including smoking) No dogs Do not litter MAP The map is printed on waterproof paper and should not need covering. 38,681 people were hospitalised for asthma in

8 Indemnity form TEAM NUMBER TEAM NAME Event Registration Refund Policy. Participant withdrawal prior to the late date 17 July 2015, or any time for medical or other urgent reason: no refund will be given, however another person can replace the missing participant. Notification to Asthma SA is necessary by 17 July Rogaining is an activity which can involve risk of personal injury or property damage. While it is acknowledged as a challenging activity, the risks ought not be discounted particularly navigating through potential dangers in a bush setting in daylight or darkness. Extreme care must be taken by participants to avoid injuries from falls which can occur at night time. Other, but less obvious, risks will occur because of the nature and type of terrain through which the activities are conducted. The SA Rogaining Association and Asthma Foundation SA require all participants to carry equipment such as suitable clothing, food, torches, compasses, water, first aid kit and any other allowed devices which will limit the inherent risks in the activity. By participating in the activity, each participant acknowledges that the sport of Rogaining involves considerable risk and agrees that by entering the event, they do so at their own risk. The participant binds themselves, their executors, administrators, heirs, successors and assigns as follows: a) The participant agrees to discharge and release the South Australian Rogaining Association, and Asthma Foundation SA, their volunteers, the owners and occupiers of land used in the event, event sponsors and producers, community organisations, State Federal and Local Authorities in which the event may be held and their (its) representatives from all liability for death, disability, personal injury, damage to property, theft, and all foreseeable risks, claims or actions of any kind, howsoever caused, resulting from their participation directly or indirectly in this event. b) The participant agrees to further indemnify and hold harmless all entities and persons mentioned in the above clause (a) above from all liabilities, claims or action, as mentioned above, irrespective of whether the SA Rogaining Association or Asthma Foundation SA or its employees or agents may have been negligent. In particular, the participant agrees to indemnify the SA Rogaining Association and the Foundation for any loss or damage arising from participating in the event and agrees that this indemnity may be pleaded as a complete defence to any legal proceedings or any right the participant may claim against the SA Rogaining Association or Asthma Foundation SA, its servants agents or any owner or occupier of land used in the proceedings. I understand if our team withdraws from the event the team fundraising is not-refundable. I understand that during the event or related activities I may be photographed or filmed. I agree to allow this photograph, video or film likeness to be used for any legitimate purpose by the SA Rogaining Association or Asthma Foundation SA, the sponsors and or assigns. I agree that I will abide by the event rules and I understand that entry may be voided if through my actions or behaviour, in the opinion of the organisers reserve the right to reject any entry without having any justification for their actions. I acknowledge the risks of rogaining and agree to participate on the conditions as described above. If a parent, guardian or other responsible adult allows or encourages a person under the age of 18 years to participate in the activity, then that adult must be warned that the SA Rogaining Association and Asthma Foundation SA cannot accept any liability for injury or loss caused to the other person. I acknowledge the risks of rogaining as described above and agree to indemnify the SA Rogaining Association and Asthma Foundation SA for any injury or loss arising from the above named minor(s) participating, and agree that by signing this indemnity or by permitting the minor to participate, I will accept complete responsibility for any injury or loss caused.
