Whatever your age or experience, TREC could be the sport for you. TREC develops the skills a horse and rider needs while out hacking, with three phases testing your ability in orienteering, negotiating obstacles and basic flatwork. With competitions throughout Great Britain catering for all levels of rider from beginners to experts, TREC is a sport for everyone. The sport consists of 3 phases: Orienteering phase - riders follow a set route (either singly or in pairs), which they have copied onto a map themselves, at a range of pre-determined speeds. The routes vary in length from 10-40km and riders lose points (from a maximum of 240) for using an incorrect route or being too fast or too slow. At the higher levels riders may be asked to navigate using grid references or compass bearings only. Control of paces phase - riders must demonstrate their control over their horse's paces by cantering as slowly as possible along a track and then returning in walk as fast as possible. Points (out of a maximum of 60) are determined by the time taken for each pace. PTV [obstacle] phase - riders complete a course of 16 obstacles which are designed to be formalisations of things that could be found on a ride, each of which is judged out of 10 (maximum points available 160). The course has a time limit and points are deducted for exceeding this limit. Obstacles may be required to be completed ridden or led, and include things like riding through water, opening and closing a gate, jumping a small fence and riding or leading up or down a slope, over a bank or through a dip. Two training sessions with Tina Griffen. There will also be unmounted POR & Map reading training/exercises Camping & Coralling is available as an extra if you would like to arrive the day before (before the Training day with Tot Wall). Accommodation if you don t wish to camp there are a couple of places that have been recommended in the past (ask for more details) Catering Just across the road is The Dog & Bull pub which has a great reputation for its food. Open every evening (booking recommended at weekends) but may not always be open at lunch time. Best to check or Local Takeaways available in Wem (4 miles) and Whitchurch (5 miles) and Prees (3.8 miles). Some offer delivery. Ask for details. 3 Training with Tot Wall on Sunday 21 st Sept at Harthill Stud Farm Ride, Malpas, Cheshire Tot is an accredited British Dressage trainer who competes three horses at dressage, eventing, showing working hunters, showjumping and trec. She was chef d'equipe and a selector for the senior teams representing Great Britain at Trec in She is happy to teach the bold or nervous, young or old at all levels. 2-3 hour ridden session with PTV Obstacles & Control of paces, on the 3.5 mile farm ride in groups of 4-6, includes steps, water complex, road crossing with ditch (coffin), arrow heads, corners plus lots of galloping tracks So what does it cost? 4 CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE OF BOOKING The following rules will apply. 1 Horse passports need to be valid and up-to-date if you are staying at the Chestnuts. Please check now that they are correct so all is in order. 2 Do not ride off the yard for lessons or a ride leaving one person on their own or struggling to mount, or with a distressed horse. No one likes to be left. 3 Respect must be given to the yard and of their equipment. 4 No horse is to be let loose on the premises. 5 The gates to the yard/field and yard must be kept shut at all times. 8 Please be on time for your scheduled training sessions so we make the most out of each day and do not impact on other people. 9 The event organisers have taken all reasonable precautions to ensure the HEALTH AND SAFETY of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the officials for the duration of the event. Neither the event organiser nor the land/course owners can accept responsibility for loss or injury to persons or animals howsoever caused. 10 Insurance cover is provided with BHS or BRC membership so if you are NOT a BHS or BRC member please enclose evidence of your Public Liability insurance cover. If you do not provide evidence of Insurance, you will be required to join TRAC before you can participate in any training. 11 Withdrawal Refund Policy - If you withdraw and your place can be filled, then a full refund will be given less a 10% admin fee. 6 Clinics, Lessons & Training Release of Liability Agreement: I, acknowledge that I have voluntarily applied to attend or participate in an instruction class, demonstration or clinic with TRAC. I acknowledge that horse riding is a dangerous sport, which carries inherent risks of injury or even loss of life, as well as damage to my horse, my property and myself. I knowingly assume all risks, whether known or unknown, of watching, grooming, handling, or riding either my horses or horses provided for my use. I also knowingly assume all risks, whether known or unknown, of participating in this lesson or clinic or spectator. I release TRAC, host facility and sponsors, and their agents and employees from all liability for any act of negligence or want of ordinary care. In consideration of my participation in this lesson or clinic, I waive, release and discharge TRAC, host facility and sponsors, and their agents, employees, representatives, heirs, executors and assigns from any and all claim or liability for injury to myself, my animals or my property (including theft/damage to vehicles/tack) arising out of participation in this lesson or clinic.
