2 RUN WALK ABOUT THE FORT LAUDERDALE TURKEY TROT WHEN Thanksgiving Day, November 22, Registration opens at 6:00am. Race begins at 7:30am. WHO All walkers and runners and even kids local and visiting who want to feel the burn and have some fun before they indulge in their Thanksgiving feast. WHAT A 5K run or walk. Event will be timed, with overall male & female winners and age-based category winners. WHERE DC Alexander Park: 501 Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. 5K Race Route is along A1A beginning at SE 5th Street to Sunrise Blvd. and back. Course certified by USATF. WHY: 1. A turkey trot is a fun run or footrace, typically between 5,000 and 42,195 meters, that is held on or around Thanksgiving Day in the United States; The Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot, held on Thanksgiving morning, is a 5,000 meter road race, otherwise known as a 5K. The Buffalo Turkey Trot is the oldest continually running public footrace (established in 1896) in the United States, attracting 14,000 runners. The Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot began in 2011, and has grown to more than 2,500 runners in 7 years.
