72 CHARITIES & COMMUNITY Ready, Set, Run for a Reason! Crossing the finish line of the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon or El Paso Corporation 5K is a well-deserved reward for the hard work runners endure while training for their race. By participating in the Run for a Reason charity program, that hard work does more than get runners to the finish line; it offers help and hope to the thousands of people who benefit from the charities in this program. Linking runners with 57 participating nonprofits, the Run for a Reason program provides an avenue for race participants, individuals and organizations to collect donations on behalf of an official charity. In addition, the program offers a platform for charities to raise awareness and educate others about their important cause. Last year, the Run for a Reason program raised a record $2,086,000 for 52 charities, and to-date, has surpassed $13-million raised for local nonprofits since its inception in Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers based on total number of dollars raised.
