1 AUGUST 28, 2015 BEST IN CONNECTICUT We owe a thank you to Connecticut Magazine who named Mystic Seaport the state s best Cultural Attraction for Kids in its 2015 Best of issue this month. Other local honorees include S&P Oyster House (Best Chowder), Oyster Club (Best Raw Bar), and the Engine Room (Best Bar). PILOTS STAFF FELLOWSHIP The PILOTS Staff Fellowship will be accepting applications for the fall. This program recognizes the important role that all Museum colleagues play in the success of Mystic Seaport. The PILOTS themselves are among the many beneficiaries of the dedication and commitment of Museum colleagues. The PILOTS Staff Fellowships are monetary awards that support a wide range of purposeful activities including: continuing education

2 internships research skills development training certification special projects. Eligibility Criteria Candidates for PILOTS Staff Fellowships must be regular full or regular part time employees of Mystic Seaport with tenure of at least 12 months and no open disciplinary actions. Application Process Applications should be made directly to your Department Director in writing in the form of a letter that articulates the following: Employee name and contact information Description of project or activity that will be pursued Date(s) of the program or activity Use and or purpose for the requested funds Explanation of relevance to colleagues role at Mystic Seaport Expected outcomes Supervisor sign off (if not Department Director) Department Directors must approve all applications which will be forwarded to a review panel comprised of one Museum staff member and active members of the PILOTS Corps. Awards Process Upon receipt, the review panel will vet applications and make decisions about awards. Frequency and amount of wards will be at the sole discretion of the review panel. The PILOTS Steering Committee has expressed a desire to cap cumulative award amounts to $10,000 annually. Reporting Process Successful Fellows will be expected to deliver a report, in writing or in person, to the PILOTS corps; about their experiences and the outcomes of their project or activity. Fellows will also be asked to furnish receipts for the expenses covered by the fellowship award. The deadline for submission to the PILOTs fund is September 30, Please forward applications to Jeanne Gade. Join the crew for a great end of summer sailing experience! August Two Day Sail- Board at 9am on Saturday and return at 4pm on Sunday. August 31-Sept 1 - Block Island Schooner Rendezvous- Sail out to Great Salt Pond on beautiful Block Island and join other members of the American Schooner Association for a lobster dinner and evening aboard the Mystic Whaler. Board at 9am on Monday and return at 4pm on Tuesday. Staff can sign up at the discounted rate of $75 which covers the cost of food. Please submit the registration form to Libby in Central Reservations (ext. 5331) by Friday at 9am to reserve your spot. Form.pdf SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR NEMA CONFERENCE NEMA is pleased to offer several scholarship and fellowship opportunities to make the annual conference more financially accessible. Scholarship awards support travel, lodging, and three-day registration for individual members of NEMA and employees of NEMA institutional members unless otherwise noted. The deadline for all scholarship programs is September 18, Only one application is necessary to apply for all scholarships and fellowships. Note: Individual opportunities have slightly differing requirements in the essay portion of the application. All applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. You will be notified of the final award decisions in early October. In the event that your application is unsuccessful, you may still register at the early-bird rate at any time before conference.
