We work hard to ensure you receive the finest instruction available, on the best boats, in a great location. Your GROUPON purchase is our two-hour "Introduction to Sailing" course, designed to give prospective new sailors a taste of sailing and sailing instruction, without committing a lot of time or expense. You'll learn to sail our 22' Catalina Capri keelboats, selected for their responsive sailing performance, comfort and stability. Enjoy a great afternoon on the water while you learn valuable sailing and team skills. You may find yourself hooked! Sail Solomons is an award-winning American Sailing Association (ASA) school, and all our instructors are USCG-licensed captains and ASA certified sailing instructors. We've been awarded "ASA Outstanding School" from ! We d love for you to continue sailing with us after your Introduction to Sailing course, and can give you all the information and materials needed. You have the option of applying your $95 GROUPON credit immediately to a two-day Learn to Sail course, if you d prefer to jump right in. To confirm your introductory course and ensure you are best prepared, we ask that you please read this package carefully. 2 INTRODUCTION TO SAILING Information Packet for GROUPON Sailors is an American Sailing Association (ASA) affiliate sailing school, offering both certification and non-certification courses in sailing, seamanship, docking, navigation and marine weather. We specialize in tailored sailing courses, designed to meet your busy lifestyle. We've been awarded "ASA Outstanding School" from ! We look forward to sailing with you very soon here s how to proceed with your sailing adventure! Scheduling. Our "Introduction to Sailing" courses are run Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with additional availability for weekdays, too. Sessions run: 1:00-3:00 pm, and 3:30-5:30 pm. We need a minimum of 2 students for a "go", and we have a maximum of 4 students onboard. See more on our Sailing School or News & Resources ( pages, then click View Availability and Register Online ( ). You ll have two options from there: 1. New students Sign Up : add your name, phone, and create your password. We don t need your credit card info; you ve already purchased your GROUPON! Indicate your GROUPON # in the Comments section. Now log in, look for "Intro to Sailing"; the number to the far right is the number of open seats in that session. Book your course! We ll then contact you to confirm. 2. If you d rather book with a human, check the availability online (no need to Sign Up or Log In ), pick one or two options and then call or info@sailsi.com to schedule. We'll need your name, , contact phone number, and GROUPON number. 3. If you have ANY questions or would like an upgrade to a longer course, don t hesitate to call us! Time and Location: Students should meet 15 minutes prior to class starting time at, located at Solomons Yachting Center, 255 Alexander Lane,. Sail Solomons is about an hour's drive from the DC beltway, down Route 4 or 5, in Southern Maryland. Driving directions are attached, and also found at: with a link to Google Maps. is located in the cabin next to the main marina office building. Look for the SAIL SOLOMONS sign and flag! Facilities Onsite: Sail Solomons is home-ported at Solomons Yachting Center (SYC), in Solomons MD. SYC marina facilities include parking, restrooms/showers, marina-wide wi-fi, grassy picnic areas, pool and bar. You ll have full access to the marina facilities on your instruction day, so bring a swimsuit and a picnic! 2

You ll head out for your on-the-water lesson, learning how to hoist the sails, steer the boat, and maneuver with the wind. You ll learn some nautical terminology, too.

3 What to Expect: When you arrive at Sail Solomons, you ll be met by your instructor, who will ensure you re ready to sail, and lead you to the boat. There you ll receive a safety brief and an orientation to our Catalina Capri 22 keelboats. The boats each have a small cabin, so you can stow a soft-sided bag onboard don t forget your camera! You ll head out for your on-the-water lesson, learning how to hoist the sails, steer the boat, and maneuver with the wind. You ll learn some nautical terminology, too. Upon return to the marina, you ll have an opportunity to discuss further sailing opportunities with our staff and pick up some sailing literature. Relax at the marina pool and bar, as you enjoy the spectacular waterfront view! Good Hydration: Students should bring drinking water or another non-alcoholic beverage to stay well-hydrated while onboard. Afterwards, you re welcome to enjoy a cold beverage of your choice at the marina s pool bar! Safety and clothing: Sailing instruction is conducted in a variety of weather conditions, and students must be prepared with appropriate personal gear to maintain health and safety. The following guidelines apply: Footwear: closed-toed shoes with non-slip, nonmarking soles (eg. tennis shoes, boat shoes, Crocs, Keens) Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, shirt, pants A pair of sailing gloves to protect your hands while handling lines. Bike or weight-training gloves are good substitutes. Comfortable clothing that you can easily move around in. Be able to cover up from the sun and stay warm in cooler weather. We recommend the layered approach. Rain Gear: your option. Personal Flotation Device (PFD) will be provided onboard, but students may wish to bring their own USCG-approved PFD. All students must complete and sign a Liability Release Form, attached in this package. On this form, students should also indicate whether or not they are swimmers. Students with special health conditions or medication requirements must make these known to your instructor before instruction begins. 3

When passing the Solomons Rec Center (on the right) stay in the right lane, exit for Solomons Island Road South, which takes you UNDER the Gov. Thomas Johnson bridge. From Baltimore - Take I-97 south, follow signs to Annapolis / Bay Bridge / Rt 50 E. After joining Rt 50 E, exit immediately for Aris T. Allen Boulevard exit (Route 665), then follow signs for Solomons Island, Route 2 South. Go south on Route 2, following signs for Prince Frederick. Route 2 will join with Route 4 - make a left onto Route 2-4 South. Follow Route 2-4 South/East to Solomons. When passing the Solomons Rec Center (on the right) stay in the right lane, exit for Solomons Island Road South, which takes you UNDER the Gov. Thomas Johnson bridge. From Richmond - Take U.S. route 301 north into Maryland, then State Route 234 east to State Route 5, south on State Route 5 passing Leonardtown, left on State Route 4 across the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge (lower Patuxent River Bridge). Take first right at base of bridge, turn right onto Solomons Island Road. Once at Solomons: follow Solomons Island Road South (Calvert Marine Museum on your left, field and Patuxent River on your right) towards the island. Watch for the sign on your right for Solomons Yachting Center (SYC) make immediate left onto Alexander Lane. Follow the road back and right, behind the white/green church, pass through the gates for SYC. Sail Solomons office is located in the cabin next to the SYC office building.
