Welcome Aboard! Thank you for choosing Buon Amici as your charter vessel. Please give her the respect and care she deserves while enjoying her many fine features. We will be more than happy to hear from you concerning suggestions to ensure your cruising satisfaction. Please read the following operations manual and the individual manuals aboard the boat that describe in detail the systems and accessories on the boat. Feel free to make recommendations for changes or additions (especially corrections) as your comments will ensure all information is understood and appropriate for all crews. The individual manuals can be found in the under the starboard couch seat cushion. These manuals should be of assistance with troubleshooting if required. Please return the manuals to the storage under the seat cushion when finished. Once again, welcome aboard! Helpful Phone Numbers: Anacortes Yacht Charters or ** CAUTION** With all the debris we are forced to boat through, we ask that you observe a few simple rules of running: Don t run fast into the sunset or sunrise, as sparkles on the water hide flotsam. When running fast, always operate the vessel from the upper helm. A copy of Chapman s Piloting & Seamanship is in the aft stateroom for reference. Debris will be pushed away from the semi-displacement hull when running slowly and avoid damage to the running gear. A careful lookout will avoid costly damage to the props and/or shafts and worst of all potentially ruin a well planned and deserved vacation. Hopefully you will never be involved in a boating accident but, if you are, remember that an accident report may be required. A sample form is contained in Appendix I. Thanks! 3

Specifications Twin Cummins Turbocharged Diesel HP Cruise RPM 18 Kts (21 mph) Fuel consumption: For best economy cruise, we recommend operating both engines between 1000 and 1200 RPM (8-10 mph) to achieve the best fuel economy (up to 3 miles per gallon of fuel (with slack tide). The faster you go, fuel mileage will be less. Max cruise at 2200 RPM (21 mph) the boat will travel 1.2 miles per gallon of fuel. 6.0 Buon Amici Fuel Economy (Slack tide, Actual GPS sog, Cummins 270B fuel consumption curve) 7 mph (1.2 gph) 5.0 Miles per Gallon (mpg) mph (1.2 gph) 8 mph (2.6 gph) 9.8 mph (3.8 gph) 11 mph (5.0 gph) 12 mph (7.2 gph) 14 mph (9.6 gph) 17 mph (12.8 gph) 19.5 mph (17.0 gph) 22 mph (23.6 gph) Engine RPM 5/27/11 test data 5

B. Upon boarding before departure 1. Turn 110 volt AC main breakers OFF on right side of power panel. 2. Turn shore power breaker OFF at the panel on the dock. 3. Disconnect shore power and store cord and adapters in the lazarette. 4. Power panel: Ensure batteries are charged and 12V DC breakers are ON. 5. Remove all blue canvas covers and stow in front compartment behind hinged seat cushion on flybridge. 6. Retrieve the Humminbird Fish finder from the Forward Stateroom shelf and insert into left mount on the Flybridge. Store the small (black) mount cover behind the captains seat, and the screen cover in the port side stowage compartment so it does not get lost. C. Pre-Start Engine access is obtained by lifting the hatch covers in the main salon, and through the access panels in the aft stateroom & mid-cabin. This access is for checking oil, transmission fluid and coolant levels. Battery access is also available through the mid-cabin (2 access panels). 1. CHECK OIL. Dipstick marks are separated from full to add by two quarts. When the dipstick reads add, two quarts are needed. Halfway between would require one quart. Diesel engines are particularly sensitive to overfilling. Please be careful. The transmission dipsticks can be reached through the rear access panel. The sea strainers can be reached from here as well. Extra gallons of oil and a funnel are stored in the lazarette and in front of the port engine. 2. VISUALLY INSPECT belts, hoses, mounts, sea strainers, fuel filters and coolant overflow tanks. 3. COOLANT. Coolant should be visible in the expansion tanks. If not, you can check coolant tank by removing the cap. Add coolant as required to reach the cold line. A gallon of 50/50 antifreeze and water is stored in the lazarette. 4. BATTERIES. Ensure battery switches (located to starboard of the lower helm station.) are in the on position D. Start 6

1. Be sure all engines transmissions are in neutral and throttles in idle position. The engines will not start unless you are securely in neutral. 2. Turn key clockwise-light will come on indicating preheat is engaged and alarm will sound indicating low oil pressure. Allow up to 30 seconds for preheat (preheat light will turn off) & turn key fully clockwise to engage starter. Engine start should be rapid. Once started, the alarm will stop. Immediately advance throttle to ~800 rpm until warm. Note: Engines may be started and operated from either the Bridge station or the lower helm station. 3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 for the second engine. 4. Visually check overboard exhaust for water flow. 5. Warm engines for approximately 5 minutes before attempting to maneuver to avoid the possibility of stalling an engine. Run at least 15 minutes at slow speed (~800 rpm) to allow engine to come to operating temperature (~185 deg F) and then apply power as required. 6. If an engine warning alarm sounds (possibly due to low oil pressure or high water temperature..normal readings are psig for oil pressure and 185 deg F for water temperature.), shut down the engine immediately. If it is overheating, start troubleshooting with the sea strainers. 7. Constantly monitor oil pressure, engine temperature and fuel levels. Note: If an engine cranks hard or appears to have a weak battery, a parallel battery switch, located on the instrument panel, can be engaged to allow both engine batteries to assist with engine starting. Although there is a blower switch on the control panel, diesel engines do not require a blower. E. Shifting 1. Shift only when the engines are at idle to avoid transmission damage. 2. PAUSE momentarily in neutral when shifting from forward to reverse or vice-versa. F. Engine Shut Down Idle engines at lest 5 minutes to allow cooling of the turbochargers. DAMAGE can occur if hot engines are immediately shutdown after running at cruising speed. G. Fuel * * * * CAUTION * * * * Use Diesel #2 Only! 7

WARNING: The skipper must supervise all fuel filling. Be sure you are putting fuel into the fuel tanks and not into any other tanks. There are multiple fill ports on the boat deck..two for fuel, two for holding tanks and one for potable water. The deck plates are clearly marked, but exercise caution. Also, be sure you are filling with Diesel, not GAS! Avoid spills; don t trust the fuel gauges entirely and do not attempt to operate the vessel with less than ¼ tank per side. A fuel manifold is located in the engine compartment and allows fuel to be drawn from either tank to feed either engine or both engines. This is useful in the unlikely event that the fuel in one of the tanks is contaminated and this tank must be isolated. In normal operation all valve handles should be in the DOWN position. Operation Auxiliary Power Unit (Gen-Set) 1. The 5 Kw Northern Lights onboard diesel gen-set (Auxiliary Power Unit) is located in the aft lazarette. 2. Make sure all AC loads are off at breaker panel before starting the APU. 3. Check to ensure sea cock to APU is open and water is present in the sea water strainer, located just aft of the APU. The sea cock is located under the aft shelf in the aft cabin, on the starboard side. (Note: The port side sea cock controls water to the aft head) 4. Verify oil level is full, and remove heat exchanger coolant fill cap to ensure it is full of coolant. (Note: This model of generator does not have a coolant overflow tank, and after repeated use may require topping off of coolant.) 5. On the electrical panel, depress and hold the Gen preheat switch (upper right hand corner of the panel); after about seconds, simultaneously press the Generator Start switch. If the APU fails to start, pause 30 seconds to allow the starter motor to cool. Once the APU is running, immediately check for cooling water flow off the starboard side. If water is not flowing, shut the APU down and prime the cooling system by adding water to the sea strainer. 6. AC power will switch to generator power automatically when the generator is running, even if already connected to shore power. 7. To shutdown the APU, turn off the Master AC breaker switches; allow the APU to run unloaded for a few minutes and depress the stop button on the APU control panel. The vessel will automatically return to shore power if connected. 8. The APU draws fuel from the Starboard tank. 8

Galley A. Stove/Oven 1. Propane is heavier than air and very explosive. Use extreme caution. The 4 gallon propane tank is located in the locker on the aft deck next to the salon main entrance. One gallon of propane should last for 16 hours of burner operation. The propane tanks are filled regularly. 2. When changing tanks, remember the threads are reversed; or left hand threads. To loosen, turn CCW and CW for tightening. When tightening, lubricate the treads and be careful not to over-tighten. Leak-check can be performed by spraying a soap and water solution on the connection and look for soap bubbles. 3. To Operate: a) Ensure all burner control knobs are in the Off position. b) Open (CCW) the valve on top of the propane tank c) Turn the LP Gas solenoid switch on (located on cabinet between stove and sink.) d) Push and turn burner knob ¼ turn CCW; allow air to purge from line; hold-in and repeatedly turn the burner ignite knob until ignition occurs. Continue holding the burner knob in for a few seconds to allow sensor to register flame. e) Port burner (window side) should be lit before lighting the oven. To light the oven, turn the knob to the desired temperature setting, push in the red Oven Safety button and hold a flame next to the pilot light/heat sensor at the end of the burner on the right hand side. Once it lights, continue to hold the button in for a few seconds. When you release the button, the oven pilot light should stay lit. If not repeat process holding the Oven Safety button in longer. f) It is recommended that the LP Gas solenoid be turned off after each use of the propane stove/oven and that the propane tank be shut off. B. Water System 9

1. Check the water level monitor located on the electrical panel in the top left hand corner. Fill the system as required using the hose and water filter on board. Purge the hose prior to filling water tank. A large water filter is located under the lazerette step which should be connected to the hose when refilling the water tank. Once the tank overflows, cap the tank. Remove the water filter from the hose, empty the excess water, and stow. 2. Water fill is located on starboard side of the deck, just aft of the Waste deck plate. Please do not confuse the two it could ruin your trip! 3. DC master circuit breaker must be switched on (red pair in the top left corner on the panel behind the smoky glass doors by the steps to the aft cabin.) to use the pressurized water system. Engaging the Water Pump switch will turn on the water pump and activate an amber light on the panel. The water pump is located under the bed in the aft cabin, along with the 77 gallon fresh water tank. You will hear the pump running, attempting to pressurize the system. If it does not shut off within 2 minutes it probably cannot establish system pressure. Troubleshooting will be required. 4. Once the system is pressurized, open the hot water faucets especially if the water tank was empty, and allow water to flow until all air is eliminated from the lines and the 11 gallon hot water tank is filled. 5. Hot Water. Please make sure water is in the hot water tank!. C. Refrigerator i. Heats automatically via a heat exchanger installed with the starboard engine. Cruising for about 1 hour will provide 11 gallons of hot water. ii. When connected to shore power on Line 2, the electric hot water heater can be engaged thru the switch in the electrical panel. iii. When at anchor, hot water can be provided from the onboard APU (gen-set) which is located in the lazarette below the aft deck. Start the APU (see the section on APU operation) and the control will automatically switch the vessel to APU AC power. 1. Approximately 15 cubic feet. Combination refrigerator/freezer. 2. Operates from DC (house battery) only. When on shore power, the battery charger maintains 12 volt supply to battery, which powers the refrigerator. If the house battery is fully discharged, the refrigerator will automatically shut off to protect from low voltage. 3. Temperature control/on-off switch is inside the refrigerator on the starboard side. Start with setting 2 or 3 and adjust from there otherwise food in the refrigerator may start to freeze. 10

4. At anchor, the refrigerator is the biggest house battery drain. When using the APU, the refrigerator will operate from this AC source through the battery charger. 5. It is recommended that you turn off the refrigerator when retiring for the evening when mooring without shore power. 6. At the conclusion of your trip, please leave the refrigerator running, with temperature setting at 3. D. Microwave/Toaster/Coffee Maker These are 110 volt AC appliances so shore power or APU operation is required to operate these appliances. See respective manuals for operation. A. Heads Heads/Plumbing The Jabsco marine toilet looks like a household appliance, but the plumbing is entirely different. The hoses that transfer the waste reduce to 1 in diameter, so they cannot transfer the same bulk as the home unit. Pamper the marine head and your trip will be much more enjoyable. 1. Use only biodegradable toilet paper made specifically for marine toilets. Ladies.please do not flush tampons, Kleenex, sanitary wipes, hair, makeup remover pads, etc down the marine toilets. 2. TO FLUSH, flip the lever above the pump handle to the wet position and pump several strokes to wet the bowel before use. Seawater is used for this purpose. Add a small amount of black water tank deodorizer. After use, pump slowly and steadily. Don t force anything. After waste has disappeared, pump several more times, flip the lever to dry and pump until all water has left the bowel. A toilet brush has been installed next to the head to assist with cleaning. 3. If an odor develops 20 Mule Team Borax or Baking Soda can be added to the marine system to control the odor. 4. WARNING: Make sure all guests are versed in the proper use of the marine toilet system. Nothing can ruin a trip faster than an inoperative toilet due to being plugged by material that should never have been put there in the first place. 11

B. Showers 5. If the pump becomes squeaky and hard to pump, there are lubricants designed to be flushed from the bowl and into the pump housing. They soak into the gaskets and seals and improve the ease of pumping. For best results, leave the lubricant sitting overnight to soak into the gaskets and seals. In the absence of this lubricant, salad dressing (vinegar and oil) can be put into the head. The oil helps lubricate the gaskets while the vinegar helps control algae and odors. 1. There are three showers on board: At the aft swim platform, in the aft head and in the forward head. The aft shower, being a separate unit is more convenient than the forward shower. A squeegee has been provided to assist with wiping excess water from the shower walls to reduce mold and mildew. 2. The showers discharge into a bilge area where a separate sump pump transfers the water overboard. If you do not notice water being pumped overboard, an inspection of the sump area may be required to determine the cause of the problem; most likely hair preventing operation. Simple cleaning should restore operation. 3. Conservation of water is suggested due to the relative small size of the hot water tank. (ie; 11 gallons) When using the showers, especially when the engines may have been shut down for an extended period of time and shore power is not available, run the APU, switch the hot water heater ON and wait several minutes for the hot water system to come to temperature. C. Holding Tanks 1. The holding tanks are located (1) under the floorboard at the forward end of the aft stateroom and (2) under the mid-ship berth. 2. Note: The Tankwatch light on a panel in each head. These lights will alert you when the holding tank is full. When the Tankwatch light comes on the crew should not attempt to use the head one more time but use the other head until the full tank can be emptied. This cannot be overemphasized!! Just One more use. can turn into an ugly disaster. 3. To empty the holding tanks; (a) At a marine pump out station.use the deck plates labeled waste at the starboard aft deck, for the aft holding tank; and the starboard mid-ship deck for the forward holding tank. After pumping, following the directions located with the bright orange pump, 12

hose off the deck plates, partially fill the holding tanks with water and empty again to minimize the potential for odors occurring. Finally, flush some deodorant chemical into the tanks to ready for the next use. Borax or Baking Soda may also be added to control odor. (b) Use the holding tank Macerator pumps (only legal in Canadian waters. Never legal in U.S. water of the Pacific NW) this is an option to using a pump out station. Have a crewmember stand at the waste deck plate starboard, either midship or at the aft quarter and observe for waste flow. From the DC panel, depress the pair of buttons labeled S for stern/aft holding tank or B for the bow/forward holding tank. Since there are two pumps, each of them has two switches; they will have to operate individually. When the crewmember at the deck plate observes no more flow, release the pump switches to avoid damage to the pumps by running them dry. Once both tanks have been emptied, add a fresh measure of chemicals to the tanks. Borax or Baking Soda may also be added to help control unwanted odors. D. Thru-hull Plumbing and Y-valves 1. The marine heads draw water for flushing from thru-hull fittings. The valves are open when the handles are pointing up (away form the hull) and ready for flushing. (Valve handles will normally in the open position but should be verified prior to operation of the vessel.) The forward head thru-hull valve is located at the forward end of the engine compartment. The aft head thru-hull valve is located under the aft shelf, on the port side, in the aft cabin. 2. A floor hatch is located at the bottom of the stairs to the forward cabin. Under the floor hatch is access to the Y-valve, shower sump for the forward head and a bilge pump. The seat, to the stern of the aft cabin, lifts up to reveal the aft Y-valve. The valves are labeled with Overboard and Holding Tank. When placed in the Overboard position, black water will be directed overboard from the marine toilets, which is illegal in inland waters in the US. These valves have been permanently fixed in the Holding Tank position, which is what a Coast Guard inspection will require. A fine is possible for removing these retainers. 3. Caution: It is the responsibility of the crew of the vessel to ensure that the Y- Valves are in the correct position and permanently fixed in that position while in inland waters. 13

Cabin Heat 1. Shore Power Turn on the receptacles circuit breakers on the A/C switch panel and plug in the portable ceramic heaters. In the winter, normally leave the heater set on low to avoid drawing too much current for the 30-amp dock circuit. Running both heaters on high on the same circuit will cause the circuit breaker to trip at the electrical panel. 2. Cruise Heat This is the fan that blows through a Red Dot hot water heating system attached to the port engine. If the engine is hot, it will blow in hot air. If not, no heat! The switch is located on the lower helm control panel; port side. 3. Diesel Furnace This boat is equipped with a Webasto AT5500 diesel hot air furnace. The furnace is located on the port side in a compartment adjacent the propane oven, and burns diesel fuel from the starboard tank. The thermostat is located in the aft main cabin above the electrical panel. (Note: If necessary, access to the furnace can be achieved by removing an access panel inside the port side kitchen cabinet, or by a removing a large access panel alongside the oven.) The furnace has three hot air ducts; one located in the aft stateroom (below the bottom step), one located in the mid-stateroom, and one located in the main cabin forward steps. The two stateroom vents have adjustable louvers, and the main cabin steps outlet must remain open and unobstructed. Cabin air return is located under the kitchen oven. To operate the furnace, the on-off switch is located on the thermostat panel. The panel has a digital display that shows current room temperature and desired room temperature. To operate the thermostat, select the desired temperature by pressing the up or down buttons to change the digital display. Release the button, after two seconds, the display will default back to the current room temperature. Recommended operating procedure: This furnace will heat a cold boat very quickly and faster than the thermostat can respond. As a result, the actual cabin temperature will overshoot the desired temperature, until the cabin temperature stabilizes. We strongly recommend heating a cold boat in two degree increments on the thermostat to avoid overheating. Once the boat temperature stabilizes, increase the desired room temperature setting on the thermostat to maintain a constant temperature. 14

Note: Once the desired temperature achieved, the furnace will perform a normal shut down cycle for two or three minutes to cool the system with cabin air before turning off. Also, we recommend not leaving the furnace on overnight while at anchor, as the furnace motor unit will drain the house battery. WARNING: The diesel furnace produces very hot air. It is very important to not block or obstruct the hot air ducts as furnace hot air is up to 180 degrees F, which can melt or burn objects placed too closely. Absolutely do not obstruct the main cabin air vent, or the heater system will overheat resulting in system damage and potentially a vessel fire. If for any reason you smell smoke when operating. Turn the furnace off. Also, the combustion air intake and exhaust are located on port side exterior hull. The combustion exhaust fitting is very hot and can cause severe burns if touched. There is a warning decal below the exhaust fitting. Be sure to warn small children of this danger to avoid the possibility of injury when docked on the port side. 4. APU/Gen Set Follow instructions for APU operation and proceed as if on shore power. Electrical A. DC or Direct Current (Batteries) 1 The DC battery selector switches are located on the starboard side of the lower helm station. 2 There are four DC batteries on board. (1) for the APU Gen-set, (1) House and (2) engine batteries which can be combined in parallel when desired thru a switch on the upper or lower helm stations. The engine batteries are mounted in front of the engines and can be accessed thru the wall hatches in the mid-cabin and the salon. The APU battery is located next to the APU in the lazarette. The house battery is located on the starboard side along with the engine batteries. Mounted at the top of the DC circuit panel is a voltmeter, with a switch, to indicate the relative health of the batteries. 15

3 The DC circuit breakers are all labeled with their respective functions and are being covered during the course of the manual. DC Master must be on for any accessories to function (cabin lights, water pressure pump, etc.) as AC power is irrelevant to operation of these items. 4 Helm switches must be turned off at the station that they were first turned on from. Duplicate switches are located at the upper and lower helm. Therefore, if you turn on the navigation lights at the upper helm, you will be required to turn them off at the upper helm. 5 Remember to turn on the circuit breaker to the 30-amp Pro Mariner battery charging system whenever you are on shore power or have the APU running. B. AC or Alternating Current (Shore Power) 1. The shore power is dual 30 amp with split panel. The shore power cords are normally stored in the cockpit locker. Check the sockets you are about to plug into and determine if they are 30 amp or 20 amp sockets. The cord splitter is under the couch. If you require the splitter, be sure to monitor your amperage to make sure you do not exceed the 30 amp circuit otherwise a trip to the circuit breaker on the dock will be necessary. 2. Ensure the AC master switch is off. Plug the shore power cord into the starboard side mid-ship shore power receptacles. Insert the power cord and twist CW. Tighten the black locking ring. Turn off the circuit breaker at the dock socket. Insert the ships shore power cord to the dock station and restore power with the dock circuit breaker. 3. Check the vessel s AC panel. The red light indicating Reverse Polarity should not be illuminated. DO NOT USE SHORE POWER IF REVERSE POLARITY IS INDICATED. If reverse polarity is indicated and you cannot solve this problem use the onboard APU or DC power. When line 1 and 2 are activated ( Master on) they should each read ~115 volts. C. AC or Alternating Current (APU /Gen-set) 1. See the section on using the onboard APU. The APU can be used to replace shore power when the selector switch is set to the Generator position after the APU start sequence has been successfully initiated. 16

Electronics Electronics There are complete manuals aboard for all electronic equipment. Please familiarize yourself with the operation of these devices during fair weather and in familiar waters. A. VHF Radios The vessel is equipped with a VHF radio at both helms. The radio at the upper helm is located in the equipment locker to the port side. Use channel 16 for hailing only and switch to another channel to conduct a conversation. Make sure at least one other person in your crew is familiar with radio procedure and operation. B. GPS Lower Helm: The vessel is equipped with a Standard Horizons CP 175C GPS with chartplotter and C-Card of the area from Olympia, Washington to Port McNeill, BC. A Quick Guide to the operation of this GPS is included in this manual on the following page. Pay close attention to the zoom feature of the GPS. As you zoom to closer detail more information than you thought available will be displayed. Also, if you go to MENU then ENTER then SETUP then ENTER then GENERAL SETUP then AUTOINFO then ENTER and select OFF. This will eliminate the excessive detail of the area pre-elected on the screen. See page 69 of the GPS manual. Another useful hint is to press Clear Clear twice to center the boat on the display screen. Flybridge: The flybridge has two mounts on either side of the instrument panel. On the left, there is a Humminbird GPS/fish finder (normally stored in the forward cabin), and on the right, a Standard Horizons GPS unit from the lower helm that may be easily relocated upstairs, when navigating from flybridge. Warning: The Humminbird depth finder will display GPS boat location on a surface map, but it does not include detailed navigation charts with water depth and underwater obstructions. Therefore, this unit should never be used as a primary source of navigation information. You must use the 17

Standard Horizon chart plotter, and/or approved charts for navigation purposes. WARNING: DO NOT USE THE RADAR OR GPS AS YOUR SOLE MEANS OF NAVIGATION. ALWAYS REFER TO THE CHARTS ON BOARD FOR THE AREAS WHERE YOU WILL BE NAVIGATING. 18

19

C. Autopilot The vessel is equipped with a Com Nav 1101 autopilot system. If you have experience with this system and feel comfortable with navigating with an autopilot, feel free to use the system. Otherwise, it would be advantageous to completely familiarize yourself with the operation of the system through the operating manual on board, before engaging the autopilot. D. Depth Sounders This vessel has three depth sounders. There is a Garmin fish finder mounted on the salon helm station. On the flybridge, there is an in-dash Humminbird depth finder (with low water alarm), and a Humminbird fish finder on the dash. The Humminbird fish finder is a state of the art unit (2011 model) with high definition screen and digital sonar image processing that provides detail images of objects on the ocean bottom, depth, fish location & size, weather and GPS maps. The salon helm has a Garmin fish and depth finder. WARNING: This vessel draws 4 feet of water. Depth finders may or may not be programmed to include an accurate keel offset. Do not trust the depth sounders to avoid underwater rocks and obstacles when operating in shallow water. Depth sounder sensors are located in the back half of the boat. The bow of this boat can strike an underwater rock long before the depth sounder provides a low water indication. You must always use navigation charts as a primary source of water depth information. E. Radar The Raytheon R10 radar unit is located at the lower helm. As a quick start, press the STBY key and wait ~90 seconds for warm up and then press the XMIT key. Press the up of down keys to adjust the range. This unit can see approximately 7 miles and can receive signals from both RACON and RAMARK radar beacons. Remember, in reduced visibility the Navigation Rules require that the radar be in use. E. Spotlight The spotlight controls are located on the upper helm only. Please check to see that the lighted switch is turned off after use. This is easy to overlook. 20

Note: It is fairly easy to inadvertently bump this switch with your knee when operating the controls. F. Stereo Systems This vessel has four stereo systems. One in the forward stateroom, one in the aft stateroom, one in the mid cabin, and one on the flybridge. The forward cabin has a stereo with IPOD dock, but this unit only operates on shore or APU AC power. To use the IPOD interface, flip open the door on the top of the Blu-ray DVD player and insert your IPOD. Turn the power on for both the TV and the DVD player using the remote controls. Select IPOD on the DVD remote (center button). Your song titles and videos can be viewed on the TV screen. Volume and song selections can be managed using the DVD remote. The stereo on the aft stateroom only works with AM/FM and is integrated into the nightstand. The main cabin stereo has AM/FM, CD, an IPOD cable, and is MP3 capable. This unit is switched to drive four internal cabin speakers, four external flybridge speakers, and a sub-woofer from a central location. The interior and exterior sets of speakers are powered by three power amplifiers. Selection of speakers and subwoofer are controlled by a switch panel. Switch selection: o To the left of the main cabin stereo there four silver toggle switches (in a row from forward to aft) and two (red) lighted toggle switches. The four silver switches change the stereo source for flybridge speakers to either the main cabin stereo only for all speakers, or split mode (separate flybridge & main cabin stereo operation). Place all switches to the Port side for combined operation from the main deck. Place all switches to the Starboard side to split operation (flybridge and main cabin stereos operated separately). o The two red lighted toggle switches turn on power amplifiers for flybridge speakers and a internal subwoofer. The left switch (starboard side) turns on the flybridge speakers. The right switch (port side) turns on the subwoofer amp. o To the right of the stereo deck is a knob that controls sub woofer volume. 21

Main cabin stereo operation: To turn on the stereo, press the SRC (source) button for two seconds. Repeatedly press the SRC button to select AM, FM, IPOD, CD, or MP3 source inputs. An IPOD cable is permanently attached to the unit. Detail instructions are stored on the shelf. Flybridge stereo operation: The flybridge stereo can only be operated when the main cabin source switches (4) are in the Starboard position. If there is no sound when turned on, lower the volume, and move these switches to the other direction and try again. To use the IPOD cable, press the lower right (on/off) button and select Xmedia. To load CD s, press the upper right button, and the motorized stereo face will flip down to expose the CD/DVD slot. G. Flat screen TV s There are two flat screen TV s for watching DVD s. One is located in the forward cabin and the other in the aft cabin. The 32 inch, flat screen TV in the forward cabin will play Blu-Ray and Standard DVD s. The Panasonic sound system is a 6 speaker, home theater, surround sound system. Instructions for use of this system are located in the forward stateroom. The 19 inch, flat screen TV in the aft cabin will play both Blu-Ray and Standard DVD s. When anchored, the aft cabin TV can be easily moved to the mid-cabin to watch DVD movies. If you wish to rent DVD s for your trip, there is a Red Box video rental koisk located in the Market in downtown Anacortes where movies can be rented. Bilge Pumps There are five bilge pumps and two sump pumps on board. Two are located in the companionway sole just aft of the forward cabin. A forward bilge pump, which has an automatic float switch and is wired directly to the DC power source, and shower sump pump are located in this area along with the Y- valve. An aft bilge pump, which also has an automatic float switch and is wired directly to the DC power source, is located behind the removable panels in the aft bulkhead in the aft stateroom. Switches for each of the bilge pumps are located at each helm station. Two additional bilge pumps are located in the engine compartment at the fore and aft end of the engines. One additional bilge pump is located in the aft lazarette to protect the APU, 22

along with the aft shower sump. The packing glands, where the prop shafts penetrate the hull, should drip slowly therefore automatic operation of the bilge pumps can be expected occasionally. Continuous operation of one or more of the bilge pump may indicate a serious problem. Please advise AYC Yacht Charters of this situation. A. Anchors Anchoring & Windlass A 35-pound Danforth anchor is located on the bow roller with 100 feet of 5/16 chain and 170 feet of ½ nylon rode. The chain is marked in 10 foot increments. A second 35-pound anchor is located in the aft lazarette along with 20 feet of chain and 150 feet of 5/8 nylon rode. The anchor locker is located behind the hinged mirror at the head of the forward stateroom. B. Windlass A Lewmar Pro-Series H1000 electric winch is available to raise and lower the anchor. This windlass will exert a maximum force of 1000 pounds and draw 50 amps of DC power during operation. To prevent draining the house battery, the boat engines must be running when lowering or raising the anchor. Extreme care must be exercised to avoid a serous accident while using the windlass. C. Anchoring Position an operator at the upper helm ready to maneuver per instruction. a. Install power to the windlass switches from the electrical panel. b. Remove the anchor lashing. Store in the hatch to starboard c. Open the caps on the windlass buttons to port. Note the directional arrows UP and DOWN. d. Tap the down arrow a few times and gently release the bow anchor from the roller until weight is on the chain. The capstan can be loosened slightly to lower the anchor more quickly. A hand crank is located in the deck compartment on the starboard side of the windlass. Lower at will. A scope of 3:1 for all chain or 4-5:1 for chain and rode is recommended. Recommended scope is 8:1 and 10:1 in heavy weather. e. Secure the rode to the bow deck cleat. f. Back down the engines to ensure the anchor is set. g. Secure the windlass switch caps. 23

h. Set the GPS to anchor alarm to detect movement of the anchor. D. Weigh Anchor Position an operator at the upper helm ready to maneuver per instructions. Engines should be running. a. Install power to the windlass switches from the electrical panel. b. Open the caps on the windlass buttons to port. c. Slowly and carefully retrieve the rode and chain while the boat operator drives the boat in the direction of the anchor. The windlass should have enough power to retrieve the anchor in most situations. If the anchor does not free itself attempt to pull in the opposite direction with modest scope ~3:1. If this doesn t work, secure the rode and run slowly, with taut line, in a wide circle. d. Once the anchor is free make sure the anchor does not strike the hull of the vessel. A free swinging anchor can do severe damage to the gel-coat. e. Wash the anchor, as required, to remove mud and debris prior to stowing. This applies to the chain as well. f. Lash the anchor in place and replace switch covers. g. Turn off windlass switch at electrical panel. Dinghy & Davits An 11 foot Mercury inflatable dinghy is attached to the rear swim platform using a Weaver davit system. The dinghy can be released from the standoff s and lowered into the water using a rope and pulley system. The dinghy will still be attached to the vessel with the Weaver snap davits. Once the dinghy is loaded with gas tank, etc it should be released from the snap davits before boarding. It is powered by a 9.9 HP Mercury 4 stroke outboard motor. Please avoid getting beach sand into the bottom of the dinghy. The sand will chaff through the material quicker than anything. If sand does get into the dinghy please use the freshwater wash-down, near the aft boarding door, to remove as much sand as possible. To lower or raise the dinghy, use the rope and pulley system hanging from the rope hooks on the aft railing. This pulley system will provide a 4:1 reduction in force required to lift the dingy. There are three sections to this set-up: two short pieces with loops on both ends, and a center section with two pulleys, a 35 foot rope & clips. Loop the end of one short section 24

around the top horizontal bar of the aft deck canopy support. Clip a pulley to the other end of the upper rope. Loop the end of the other short section in the slots on the dinghy handle. While standing on the swim step, pull the the rope to raise and lower the dinghy. The Mercury outboard has an integrated shifter and throttle. To override the shifter, there is a button located on the left side that will allow use of throttle only. To unlock the outboard tilt, the shifter must be in the forward position. The motor will need to be tilted slightly to rotate the weaver mount when launching and retrieving the dinghy. Ensure the dinghy is fully inflated before use. A red hand pump is stored in the lazarette. The proper inflation pressure is listed on each valve of the dinghy. A. Berths Miscellaneous 1. The mid-ship berth has excess storage under the headboard which is hinged at the top and lifts up and away from the berth, providing ample space for duffel bags and extra gear. Under the mattress, there is a storage compartment that contains a variety of spare parts such as fuel and oil filters, belts, water pumps, bilge pumps, head repair parts, and macerator pump. 2. The forward stateroom has three deep lockers located under the mattress in addition to the hanging locker. B. Vacuum System 1 The central vacuum system is located under the salon settee along with the hose and attachments. This unit is AC only therefore shore power or the onboard APU must be operational and the circuit breaker in the electrical panel must be activated to use the vacuum. To use the vacuum, lift up the hinged flap on the black box and plug the hose into the opening. This will activate the vacuum. C. Spare Parts & Tools 1. Spare parts are located in the mid-cabin in a compartment underneath the mattress. Additional small parts such as screws, electrical connectors and other miscellaneous items are located under the salon aft settee cushion. 25

D. Canvas 2. Motor oil, coolant and transmission fluid are located in the lazarette. There is additional motor oil stored in front of the port engine, located through the engine room access port in the mid-cabin. 3. The toolbox is located under the settee in the salon. 1. The bridge canvas can be stowed in the storage locker located on the bridge. 2. The bridge bimini top can be extended during inclement weather although it would be prudent to leave the top stowed if wind is expected. They are very difficult to stow during a storm or windy conditions. Securing 1 Once securely moored at the dock, connect the shore power to the AC supply. 2 On the AC panel, leave on the battery charger and AC receptacles. Turn the hot water heater off. 3 Check the inventory (especially fenders and tie off the fender holders so they won t slip below the dock.) 4 Ensure the GPS unit has been removed from the flybridge mount and returned to the salon helm. 5 Ensure the Humminbird fish finder has been removed from the flybridge and returned to the forward cabin. 6 Install canvas covers on the flybridge instruments and seats. Install canvas covers on the forward and side cabin windows. 7 When leaving the boat, close and lock all windows and lower the blinds. Lock the sliding door. 8 Perform a last inspection as you leave the boat, checking for personal gear, locked windows and loose gear onboard. Check the tie-up and fenders once again. Have fun and thanks for choosing Buon Amici! 26
