Our Club s membership built the facilities at our site, and volunteers continue to maintain them. While we have every right to be proud of our achievements, we should also look for opportunities to share our time and skills with the community where we can. For several years we have connected with the Friends of El Dorado Lake, who promote the area as a significant resource for the people of Kansas, and seek to develop and implement improvements and educational programs. We keep in touch with them, and continue to look for areas of common interest and advocacy. Adventurous Babes Society is a women s group dedicated to the pursuit of challenging fun. The Society is always looking for chances to get their members to try new experiences. They went sailing with us in 2015, and would have been aboard twice, but for the flooding which disrupted our schedule. We will be exchanging publicity with them at the Women s Fair this month (more on this event later) and offering more sailing opportunities. Envision s mission is to improve the quality of life and provide inspiration for the blind and visually impaired. Sailing for people who are visually impaired is an area that we are especially able to contribute to, given Bill Clark s inspiration and example. Not only young people who think sailing may be out of their reach, but also their parents who are looking for beneficial activities, can enjoy a day out at the Club. We have the resources and the experience to fulfill this. The Club has a booth at this year s Women s Fair, in the Century Two Convention Center, from the 19th to 21st of February. This is an opportunity to put ourselves in front of the community and welcome potential new members. Cheryl Wertheimer is coordinating teams for set-up, staffing the booth, and tear-down, and needs our help and support. If you are not already involved, please contact her and find a task to fill. There are outreach opportunities within WVSC too. As your board prepares to plan and resource this year s Club programs, the emphasis will be on inclusive and all-age activities. We do not want any section of the membership to feel they are not welcome, either on the water or at a social event. Our Club is for everyone: cruisers and racers, dinghies and yachts, novices and experienced, families and singles. Let s build on our common interest of sailing. The STEP board presented their annual report to their corporation stakeholders (a.k.a. the BOG) last month. Recognizing the need to begin building a succession plan for the experienced and dedicated team that has run this activity since 2001, they have two new members appointed to their board: Deann Gadalla and Paul McCausland. This year s program has a new and wider scope to it, including something for STEP graduates to work on after their course is completed, as well as a program of clinics on the water and ashore to provide new experiences and skills for all of us. Some of these activities will share talent between the training team and our pool of experienced sailors. Also at the last board meeting the social committee presented a full calendar of varied events, to be coordinated with racing and sailing activities before publication. The membership committee will be checking the Club handbook, which will be edited and re-printed for 2016; all members are requested to read their personal details and give corrections and updates to Ardie Condon by 11 February. Individuals are going out of their way for the good of the Club and the community in many areas, bringing credit to the spirit of the Club. They deserve encouragement and support from all of us who have the energy, experience and goodwill needed to make these activities a success. Tim Miller, Commodore timmiller2@cox.net 1

You move into position and become at one with the boat, wind and water. Share this experience by taking the helm in the initiative to invite others into the sport of sailing. How did you begin this adventure? Reach out now to others so they also may experience the joys (and character-building challenges) of sailing. How to do this in winter? New Social Committee for 2016 We have 3 wonderful new sailors who are going to bring some new ideas and events to WVSC. Let s give Joanna Bequette, Julie Barth, and Nancy Mercer a warm welcome! Joanna has stepped up to be the social chair and will appreciate any and all help! Plans are being made for fun and games for our dining pleasure. Please help us make this season one to brag about. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Whole Blood and Platelets Are Needed The AMERICAN RED CROSS still needs your whole blood and/or platelet donation NOW. The Winter Season is no better than any other time of year the need is always present, and you can help fill that need. Only humans can make human blood! Call or contact the Red Cross today to set up your donation. Call for platelet donation or for whole blood donations. You can make a big difference for someone. Delegation, coordination: Commodore thanked board liaisons and committee chairs for timely organization and encouraged their initiative. Break-in to Dry Storage Area: Club pursuing options to strengthen security measures. Club members requested to submit any damage, missing articles, to the State Park. Park is compiling the inputs for distribution to local and state law enforcement. Our inputs are needed to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those accountable. Change to Club Notification: Board to work through Jenn Pasternak (web site coordinator) to send club-wide s to our membership. 5. Minutes of the December BOG Meeting Approved with following change: Include Motion to continue suspension of club initiation dues for Motion approved Member Concerns: John Trumpower discussed a potential security upgrade for the club s consideration. Buildings, Grounds, Harbor, Dry Storage - Gene Nold: Materials available to repair Dry Storage fence, need to check dock substructure. Larger dry storage slots: Board requested Dry Storage team to develop a plan to convert six 10 ft. wide areas into four larger, 15 ft. wide slots. Net revenue to club will be neutral, with guidance to charge 1.5 X the amount for larger slots. f. Public Relations - Cheryl: Womens Fair plans are underway for Feb at Convention Center. Cheryl outlined plans, charges and activities within budget. Still seeking club members to fill a few open time slots please support this activity.
