1 Lake Charles Yacht Club The Tacking Times Newsletter SEPTEMBER 2014 THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE LAKE CHARLES YACHT CLUB Commodore s Corner Sunday afternoon and sails on the lake. We are starting some of the best weather for sailing of the year. The heat of summer is over. Winds are great. Come on out and enjoy our club. Our club depends on volunteers to keep moving forward. From experience in several positions, I can say that there is lots of satisfaction that comes from seeing the club grow and improve. There are positions open on the board for next year. Please consider serving. James Latour is chairing the nomination committee. Volunteer or recommend someone to serve. Our yacht club continues to be the best deal in town for wet or dry slips. We are nearly full on wet slips, but are committed to building more as we need them. If you know someone with a boat needing a great place to store and use it, tell them about Lake Charles Yacht Club. We have accomplished most of our goals for this year. Painting the clubhouse is still to do. Jimmy Berry has ideas to liven up the club house with a new color scheme. Please encourage with your support. I wish fair winds and full sails to all. Jimmy is coordinating the effort with the Junior members. Hello, I am working to help organize SEISA, the South East District for High School sailing. We are trying to promote High School sailing and are looking for individuals who can/are interested in: Help to promote and/or help organize HS Sailing in the region Their own children sailing in High School, currently or in the future Forward information on to others who may have an interest in HS sailing If you know someone who may be interested in participating in High School sailing, or helping in any way, please forward this on. A High School team can be as small as 1 person for the singlehanded sailing, and can range from a loosely organized parent-sponsored team (within one high school attendance area) to a full athletic team at a high school. Can contact Eric at $1, O Day 322 good condition, central a/c, lots of extras, $20K Mike Dronet Hunter 30, good condition, central a/c $20K Charlie Williams Catalina 22 sailboat with trailer and hp Nissan ASKING $7900 Clean, in great shape, ready to sail Call Sheron at Ship to Shore Ken Abrahams has 3 motors for sale, 7 hp Sears (Eska), 2 hp Honda and 3.5 hp Mercury. All were used on sailboats. All have tanks as part of the motor. 7 hp Sears: This is an older Sears motor. It is air cooled and is standard shaft length. It has a neutral clutch. (F and N) It is rough looking but runs fine. Two cycle. $300. The vent screw is messed up and doesn t seal very well. 2 hp Honda: This is an air cooled, 4 cycle, long shaft, and twist grip throttle motor with idle clutch. Rotate for reverse. This is a sweet little motor but I have a love/hate relationship with it. The fuel ports must be very tiny and clog up occasionally and must be sent to the shop for carburetor cleaning. Right now the motor runs but the choke must be on for the motor to run properly. Someone familiar with carb cleaning can probably take care of it. $ ½ hp Mercury: I bought this motor to use on my Mariner 19 to replace the Honda. I then sold the Mariner but the buyer didn t need a motor. This motor is long shaft, 4 cycle, twist grip throttle, F/N, rotate for reverse motor. It is practically unused. $900. Flying Scot #966 Sailboat - $3600 (Lake Charles) Solid boat (hull / deck) Dry Sailed -New Main from Schurr Sails - raised only ~4 times -Jib in great shape. -Flying Scot boat cover -Trailer / bearings replaced recently -Recent upgrade to all standing and running rigging -Extra sails

8 THE TACKING TIMES NEWSLETTER Page 8 On the Lake Board News We are still looking to fill three open positions for the 2015 board. The open positions are Commodore, Vice Commodore, and Grounds. If you would like to help improve the club, please mention your interest to a board member. The board member phone numbers are listed by the LCYC phone at the club house. Board Meetings are normally at the Club House on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 5:30pm Please Remember Lock the gate when you leave. Please clean the clubhouse after use Please do not leave the air conditioners running. If you took it out (boats, gear, sails, silverware, whatever), put it back. Pick up your trash and dispose of it in the garbage cans or the dumpster. For extra credit, you can pick up someone else s trash they left out If something on a club boat breaks, report it to a member of the Board or Ship to Shore so that repairs can be made
