The walls were repainted (thanks to the volunteers!) and new flooring is now in place. The last step will be to include a bar area in the back. Contact Ralph for info. The sailing lessons took place 4-8 June from 5:30-7:30 daily. See page 11 Welcome to several new members: Paul Guillory, Joseph and Lauri Vincent, Robert Self, Ian Garbutt. If you meet them at the club, make them feel at home! The Texas 4000 cyclists stopped by the club on 8 June as part of their loooong ride from Austin to Alaska to raise money for cancer. They left a nice note on the board downstairs to thank the club for our hospitality. The social Cheeseburgers in paradise took place on 16 June. It was a lot of fun as usual! Thanks to the Unglaube for organizing the event. See page 14. The August social will be on 25 Aug. Theme TBD. Mark your calendars! James Latour: our Wednesday series is going very well (see plenty of race results in this newsletters). The Contraband days regatta took place on 12 May (plenty of photos page 4). The next big race is the flag day regatta on 23 June (12:30 skippers meeting). Scott Cesar: The dredging is now done. Boat owners can return to their original slip. 2 2 On the water: Wednesday series 2 race 2 (2 May) James Latour: Here are the results for the WNS 2 Race 2. It was a nice afternoon on the water. The wind was 11 mph SSW at the start of the race and dropped to 9 mph by the end. The first mark was E. Hope to see you on the water for the Contraband Days Regatta this Saturday.

3 3 On the water: Contraband Days regatta (12 May) James Latour: Here are the results from the Contraband Day's Regatta. It was a nice afternoon on the water with 12 skippers signed up to race. The first mark was E with an oscillating wind. Thanks to Guy Richards for bringing out the Donuts and Justin Hill for the BBQ'd chicken and potato salad. Philippe Girard: Many thanks to Jamie for crewing! I promised her a margarita if we won all three races, and she took me seriously. 7 7 On the water: Wednesday Series 2 Race 3 (16 May) James Latour: Here are the results for the WNS 2 Race 3. It was another nice afternoon on the water with a record 18 skippers signed up to race. The winds were from the West at 5-8 mph and variable. The first mark was C. Thank to Guy Richards and Al Rees for discussing racing rules prior to the skippers meeting and John Kalna for volunteering for Kitchen Duty. Philippe Girard: Light winds. Did poorly... But I was happy to introduce one of the French immersion teachers, Philippe Lecapitaine, to sailing. Congrats to Jonathan who broke a stay one hour before the race... and still beat me at the finish line!

8 8 On the water: Wed. Series 2 Race 4 (23 May) James Latour: Here are the results from the WNS 2 Race 4. It was nice afternoon on the water, but the wind did not cooperate. We had a Variable West wind of 1mph to 0mph. I think at some point, we were moving backwards. The course was modified due to the weather conditions. It was a windward leeward course with the first mark being C and then back to finish. Thanks to Mike Petry for discussing the rules and starting strategy prior to the skippers meeting!

9 9 On the water: Race to Prien (28 May) James Latour: Here are the results for the Race to Prien. The Saturday Regatta was rescheduled to Monday due to the rain and lightning that came through at race time. The weather on Monday was nice, but the wind was NNE variable and light. The tide was going out, and it made it difficult with the light winds getting back from Nalmar to the Lake. The course was modified due to the light winds. Thanks to Stuart for cooking hamburgers on Saturday. Also, thanks to those that moved furniture for the clubhouse flooring work scheduled for today.

10 10 On the water: Wednesday Series 2 Race 5 (30 May) James Latour: Here are the results from the WNS 2 Race 5. It was a nice afternoon on the water with a triangle course and E being the first Mark. There were 14 skippers signed up to race, and the winds were from the South at 8-10 mph. Thanks to Scott Cesar and Charlie McAlister for helping with the Kitchen Duty. Philippe Girard: I was surprised by a sudden burst at the start, tipped over, and could never get back up on my own. Thanks to Jim Grindoll for helping me right my boat after he completed the course. I then did the course after everyone, though it didn t count due to the third-party help.

11 11 On the water: Sailing lessons (4-8 June) Philippe Girard: It was a busy week! We had a big group and great weather all week, so we did a lot of sailing every night. Monday: safety briefing, learning how to steer and sheet in with instructors. Tuesday: more instructor time, plus learning how to right the boat. Wednesday: unofficial race with students competing in pairs on their own. Thursday: solo exams. Friday: free time on SF and catamarans in stronger winds. Many thanks to Mary Ann Jacques (paperwork on shore), Alex and Jonathan Unglaube, Brian McCain, John Kalna, Stuart Thibodeaux, Charlie McAllister, Walter Collier (instructors). I couldn t have done it without them! Thanks also to Laura Gayfield for helping host the Texas 4000 on 8 June.

12 12 On the water: Wednesday Series 2 Race 6 (6 June) James Latour: Here are the results of the WNS 2 and Race 6. The Wednesday race counting towards the series was abandoned due to the members helping with the Sailing Lessons. We did complete a race, and almost all boats participating in the race had skippers and crew from the sailing lessons on board. It was a nice afternoon on the water, and thanks to all those that helped with the Sailing Lessons last week. For the Wednesday series 2 there were a total 23 boats that competed.

13 13 On the water: Wednesday Series 3 Race 1 (13 June) James Latour: Here are the results from the WNS 3 Race 1. It was a nice afternoon on the water, and luckily it cleared up in time for the race. The Flag Day Regatta originally scheduled for Saturday June 16th will be rescheduled to Saturday June 23rd. The reschedule is due to the weather forecast and the June Social occurring on the same day.

There is no trailer but the boat is kept on its own storage rack on the beach at Lake Charles Yacht Club, ready to use. You must be a member of the club to keep a boat there.the trampoline is ok and includes a canvas cover to protect it from the sun. It is located on the South beach of LCYC, by the water hose. Please clean the clubhouse after use Please do not leave the air conditioners running. If you took it out (boats, gear, sails, silverware, whatever), put it back. Pick up your trash and dispose of it in the garbage cans or the dumpster. For extra credit, you can pick up someone else s trash they left out! Watch out for power lines! If your aluminum mast touches one, you may be badly burned or worse. If something on a club boat breaks, report it to a member of the Board or Ship to Shore so that repairs can be made.
