Green Light Vessels may proceed. Flashing Orange Beacon Flashing Orange Beacon and a Green Light indicates Free Flow is operating and you can transit the lock.

9 Locking procedure Locking Out Once aboard, switch to VHF Ch80 and prepare to depart your berth; call Chichester Marina with your call sign (boat name) and request a lock out. The lock keeper will then ask you to proceed to the lock or ask you to stand by if queuing is in operation. It is vital that you maintain a listening watch on Ch80 to avoid missing your lock slot. When you hear your call sign leave your berth and proceed directly to the lock. As you approach the lock, the traffic lights will be RED or GREEN. If they are red please hold your station until the lights turn green. If green please proceed into the lock. At the lock our staff will pass a stern line to you and then a bow line. When tying the line onto your boat ensure that you make half a turn on the cleat and hold onto the end of the line to allow the line to ease out when the boat ascends/descends, do not tie any lines off whilst in the lock. Once the outer gates are fully open please proceed in turn, or as advised, out of the lock as quickly and safely as possible. Locking In As you approach Longmore Point ensure that your VHF is on Ch80; on passing Birdham Spit pile call the marina using your boat s call sign, advise your position and request lock entry. The Lock Keeper will acknowledge your call and either instruct you to proceed to the lock on a green light or in busy times join the back of the queue for the lock and enter in turn upon a green signal light. While holding position, or approaching, favour your starboard hand to allow room for outbound traffic to pass port to port in accordance with COLREGs Rule 14. To ensure that we handle your vessel as safely as possible and with minimum delay we operate a first come first served queueing system. Please maintain your position in the queue and avoid overtaking while in the main channel; once in the approach channel do not overtake. As you arrive in the lock our staff will pass a stern line to you, and then a bow line. When tying the line on to your boat ensure that you make half a turn on the cleat and hold on to the end of the line to allow the line to ease out when the boat ascends/ descends, do not tie any lines off whilst in the lock. Once the inner gates are fully open please proceed in turn, or as advised, out of the lock as quickly and safely as possible. During Free Flow At certain times, around high water, free flow is in operation. During free flow follow the radio and traffic light signal procedure outlined above. Generally there will be little or no delay in receiving clearance to leave your berth. The Duty Lock Keeper will make an all stations announcement at the beginning and end of free flow. A flashing yellow beacon signifying that free flow is in operation will be illuminated. If you are at the front of the queue to get out, but the lights are RED, please hold your station favouring your starboard hand giving room for inbound vessels (who may be constrained in their ability to manoeuvre due to currents in the lock). When inbound to the Marina follow the radio and light procedure as described in the arrival procedure. Then transit the lock in turn, or as advised, one vessel at a time on a green light signal. If the Red light is displayed hold your position in the vicinity of the end of the outer waiting pontoon - allowing outbound vessels to leave. During free flow the marina is required to close the inner gates at set intervals to facilitate pedestrians crossing the lock - as quickly as safe operation allows. Please note that the marina may not operate free flow if the sea state makes it unsafe to do so.

Pass the church of St Nicholas on your right, 50 yards on, turn left. Do not continue down the road to Itchenor Park Farm but take the left turn which goes to the village hall and go through the small wooden gate. Follow the signed path until you come to a junction with this road and continue until you see the path on the right. The cycle route continues across the field, a gate at the other end takes you through to Sheepwash Lane. Turn right onto Sheepwash Lane. This lane is used by vehicles and horses. Continue until you come to Rookwood Road. Section 5 Rookwood Road to East Head Turn right onto Rookwood Road. You will pass a small row of shops, continue on and turn right into Pound Road. 20 Safety at Chichester Marina General safety in the marina First aid is available from the Marina Reception - usually 24 hours a day. A defibrillator is situated outside the Marina Reception. Familiarise yourself with the locations of the pontoon safety boxes. These boxes house fire extinguishers, throw lines, thermal blankets and first aid kits. Report all accidents and potential hazards to the Marina Reception immediately. Keep the pontoons clear of materials, tenders etc. Do not allow your anchor/davits to overhang walkways. Note the location of fire assembly points - see marina site map in this guide. Where applicable, note Water Evacuation points. Do not ride, or allow children to ride in the marina trolleys. In wet or icy weather, watch out for slippery pontoons. The boatyard has large equipment moving around. Please keep clear of vessels and machinery involved in lifting operations. Ensure that you use the correct size and quantity of mooring lines for your boat. Follow the safety instructions on your electricity supply pod before connecting your boat to the supply.

21 In the event of an emergency dial 999 then call the Marina Reception on VHF Ch.80 or dial For your general safety in the marina and for advice on fire safety in the marina please read opposite. Water safety advice Whilst adjacent to water, life jackets should be worn at all times in accordance with RNLI respect-the-water and RoSPA guidelines. Children should wear life jackets and be supervised at all times when near the water. Wear a life jacket or clip on when on the upper deck of your boat, particularly when alone. When berthed in the marina, drop your boarding ladder to allow easy access back onto your boat in the event of a fall into the marina. Take note of nearby boats that could provide a means of exit should you fall into the marina. Take note of where the marina safety ladders are in proximity to your boat - see marina site map in this guide. Use rescue equipment only in the event of an emergency and advise the Reception if you use any of the equipment. Misuse of this equipment may have life-threatening ramifications for future users. Advice on fire safety in the marina At the Fuel Jetty: No smoking. Turn off mobile phones, VHF radios, engines and cooking appliances. Extinguish naked flames. Follow instructions given by our trained members of staff. Do not use BBQs on boats, jetties or pontoons. Keep minimum stores of petrol, diesel and gas. Install a smoke alarm and test it regularly. Ensure gas installations are in a sound condition and checked regularly by a qualified registered contractor. Make sure your gas bottle (LPG) is secured and kept away from heat sources. Check that your fire extinguishers and fire blanket are serviceable. Always isolate fuel and gas on leaving your vessel. Check electrical heaters, dehumidifiers and 240v equipment on leaving your vessel. In the event of an emergency Do not try to tackle the incident yourself - unless you are appropriately trained for the incident at hand and it is safe to do so. In the event of an evacuation, leave immediately and head for the nearest fire assembly point - see marina site map in this guide. If the route is blocked, make your way to the nearest Water Evacuation Point. Follow instructions given by marina staff, security and the emergency services. Alert neighbouring vessels. Do not waste time collecting personal items.
