5 Southsea Marina Located in Langstone Harbour and just 15 minutes from the Solent, Southsea Marina has a tidal gate that offers unrestricted access three hours either side of high water. When waiting for gate access, you may tie up to the outer pontoon and wait for the tide to turn, or alternatively, make use of the time by refuelling. Back on land, if you would like to stretch your legs, the beautiful sandy beaches of Hayling Island are just a short distance away. But if you are looking for real tourist attractions, you can always head off to the funfair at Southsea Seafront, go for a swim at the Pyramids Leisure Pool, or opt for the outlet shops, restaurants, multiplex cinema and nightclubs of Gunwharf Quays. High life aside, most boaters prefer to stay onsite and relax in the laid-back atmosphere of the marina - simply because it is such a charming place to be. After nearest main line station with regular Havant, branch left (signposted trains to Chichester, London and Southsea). From the West - take Southampton. Fratton is the nearest FI.G FI.R.5s N the M27 following signs to Portsmouth and then onto the A27. From London and the A3 - head south on the A3 following signs to station. National Rail Enquiries By sea Portsmouth. Continue along the The approach to Langstone Harbour A3(M). Merge onto A27. Branch left, is easy in most weather conditions, Southsea Marina signposted Southsea. At Eastern Road roundabout take the first exit but best from High Water 3 to +1 hour. Once on the A2030, travel for almost four miles, between the East and West Winner drying banks, which offer some protection. Once close to the Fairway Towers(31) (R Lts) Range Lts F.R Oc(2)Y10s &Y (0ccas) Q.R Gunner PT turn left onto Milton Road (A288), signposted Eastney. Turn left into Bransbury Road, continue forward into Henderson Road, turn left into Ferry Road, signposted Hayling Ferry. After 0.2 miles turn left into Beacon, approximately one mile to the South of the harbour entrance, in line with a conspicuous chimney, steer 344º to just clear East Winner. The entrance itself deepens and favours the West side. The harbour Southsea Marina. speed limit is 10 knots and 5 knots in the marina approach channel.

7 Southsea marina channel When you are approaching the marina channel please contact the marina on VHF Ch.80, call sign Southsea Marina to be given your berthing instructions. The entrance to the Southsea Marina Channel is just past the Hayling Ferry pontoon. Seven starboard hand and nine port hand markers mark the approach channel, the first of which are lit piles. Of the remaining eight port hand markers, the 4th, 6th and 9th are all lit. None of the starboard hand markers made up of two buoys and a further three piles are lit. The western waiting pontoon is marked with a starboard hand light. The marina channel is dredged to 0.5m below chart datum, although this can vary and vessels with a draft of 1.5m or more should exercise caution when approaching at LW 2 to +2 hours. Entering the marina Craft enter the marina via an automatic cill gate that rises and falls according with the tides. This gives approximately 6 hours of access per tidal cycle. Please be aware the red and green lights at the marina entrance show if the cill gate is up or down. They are not used to control traffic. Red light - cill gate up. No access. Green light - cill gate down. Access allowed, but check the gauge outside the marina to ensure that there is enough water depth to give you clearance. The cill gate uses the laws of buoyancy. When the water outside the marina is level with the top of the cill gate, the weights connected to the gate and the cill gate itself are balanced. When the sea level rises, the weights become (relatively) lighter allowing the cill gate to lower. This continues until it eventually lies flat. At this point there is 1.6m depth of water conditions and air pressure. 11 Southsea Marina useful information Marina Reception The Marina Reception is open Weather forecasts Weather forecasts are available Electricity If you require electricity during friendly fashion. Contact the Marina Reception for information. 24 hours a day. You may contact reception on VHF Ch.80, telephone or call into the reception at any time. 24-Hour security CCTV cameras are in operation and monitored 24 hours a day. There are also regular security patrols. Each pontoon bridgehead has a key fob access control system. Notices to mariners Notices issued by the Queen s Harbour Master are displayed in the Marina Reception and on our website. from the Marina Reception. Access and free boat movements Marina staff can move your boat to or from the waiting pontoon to ensure greater flexibility for your journeys. This option is free to berth holders. Please give staff 24 hours notice ( Monday to Friday). Fuel bay and gas The fuel bay is located on the outer waiting pontoon and sells both diesel and unleaded petrol. The fuel pontoon is open your stay, please contact the Marina Reception. Premier WiFi Enjoy broadband speed WiFi via hotspots located throughout the marina, provided free of charge for three devices at a time. Please visit the Marina Reception for login details. Launderette The launderette is opposite the entrance to G pontoon. There are token operated washing and drying machines plus an iron and board. Tokens may be purchased Convenience store and cash point Eastney Convenience Store is five minutes walk away and is open seven days a week, (17.00 Sundays). There is a cash point in store. The local shops in Milton, a 15 minute walk away, include a supermarket, bank, chemist and post office. Refuse and recycling Premier has full recycling facilities onsite. All recyclables, such as cans, plastic, paper and cardboard should be disposed of in the Dry Harbour dues Harbour dues are payable in Langstone Harbour. For more information please call in the summer and in the winter. Gas cylinders are also available from the Marina Reception. Please call on VHF Ch.80 before heading for the fuel bay. from the Marina Reception. Entry can be gained by using a key fob. Pump-out facilities There is a manned pump out facility on site, which is open daily. Boat Mixed Recycling bins. Glass bins are also provided and food and general waste can be disposed of in the bins marked General Waste. Waste disposal areas are situated at each bridgehead and for the owners should dispose of their waste disposal of waste oil, please in a responsible and environmentally contact Marina Reception.

15 Southsea Marina is situated in Langstone Harbour and offers a relaxed and friendly haven in which boating enthusiasts can escape the pressures of everyday life. It s the perfect hideaway from the busy Portsmouth cruising waters and an ideal place in which to sit back and enjoy the ambience of the harbour. On rainy days, there s a unique range of shops to visit in Southsea, an aquarium, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home to three famous British warships and The Pyramids Leisure Pool on the seafront. Further away Gunwharf Quays with its designer shops, a multiplex cinema and the Spinnaker Tower is well worth a visit. 16 Safety at Southsea Marina General safety in the marina First aid is available from the Marina Reception - usually 24 hours a day. A defibrillator is situated outside the Marina Reception. Familiarise yourself with the locations of the pontoon safety boxes. These boxes house fire extinguishers, throw lines, thermal blankets and first aid kits. Report all accidents and potential hazards to the Marina Reception immediately. Keep the pontoons clear of materials, tenders etc. Do not allow your anchor/davits to overhang walkways. Note the location of fire assembly points - see marina site map in this guide. Where applicable, note Water Evacuation points. Do not ride, or allow children to ride in the marina trolleys. In wet or icy weather, watch out for slippery pontoons. The boatyard has large equipment moving around. Please keep clear of vessels and machinery involved in lifting operations. Ensure that you use the correct size and quantity of mooring lines for your boat. Follow the safety instructions on your electricity supply pod before connecting your boat to the supply.

17 In the event of an emergency dial 999 then call the Marina Reception on VHF Ch.80 or dial For your general safety in the marina and for advice on fire safety in the marina please read opposite. Water safety advice Whilst adjacent to water, life jackets should be worn at all times in accordance with RNLI respect-the-water and RoSPA guidelines. Children should wear life jackets and be supervised at all times when near the water. Wear a life jacket or clip on when on the upper deck of your boat, particularly when alone. When berthed in the marina, drop your boarding ladder to allow easy access back onto your boat in the event of a fall into the marina. Take note of nearby boats that could provide a means of exit should you fall into the marina. Take note of where the marina safety ladders are in proximity to your boat - see marina site map in this guide. Use rescue equipment only in the event of an emergency and advise the Reception if you use any of the equipment. Misuse of this equipment may have life-threatening ramifications for future users. Advice on fire safety in the marina At the Fuel Jetty: No smoking. Turn off mobile phones, VHF radios, engines and cooking appliances. Extinguish naked flames. Follow instructions given by our trained members of staff. Do not use BBQs on boats, jetties or pontoons. Keep minimum stores of petrol, diesel and gas. Install a smoke alarm and test it regularly. Ensure gas installations are in a sound condition and checked regularly by a qualified registered contractor. Make sure your gas bottle (LPG) is secured and kept away from heat sources. Check that your fire extinguishers and fire blanket are serviceable. Always isolate fuel and gas on leaving your vessel. Check electrical heaters, dehumidifiers and 240v equipment on leaving your vessel. In the event of an emergency Do not try to tackle the incident yourself - unless you are appropriately trained for the incident at hand and it is safe to do so. In the event of an evacuation, leave immediately and head for the nearest fire assembly point - see marina site map in this guide. If the route is blocked, make your way to the nearest Water Evacuation Point. Follow instructions given by marina staff, security and the emergency services. Alert neighbouring vessels. Do not waste time collecting personal items.

19 Dry berthing service with unlimited summer launches Our dry berthing service will be of special interest to racing yacht owners and RIB, motor boat, fishing boat and ski boat owners who will appreciate the marina s location and will welcome the convenience of dry berthing as an alternative to the grind of towing, launching and recovery. Keeping your boat out of the water pays additional dividends as it reduces the risk of osmosis and prevents the build-up of marine growth on the hull. Boat owners can request the launch of a boat with just four hours notice during normal working hours and when you return, you simply leave your boat on the waiting pontoon with a member of staff and we arrange for it to be lifted ashore, washed and safely stored. Normal lifting hours are between Monday to Friday, Unlimited launching and retrieval is available from April to September as part of your annual dry berthing fee.
