2 23rd June: STEM DAY Plan Period STEM Activity 1 Science Students meet in under the COLA after roll call Student go to hall where they will listen to presentation by Air force personnel or context and receive sheets Students to identify aim, predicating outcomes, Identifying variables and collect materials 2 Maths Students to take materials to math Maths to look at measuring area and enlargement ratio. Students to cut out shapes from materials 3 Maths Technology Continue to cut out materials Students to take materials to technology, test initial designs and suggest modifications 4 Engineering Students to make three parachute designs 5 Science Students to test and record data from each of the three designs Students to work out the average and choose best parachute to compete in the heats 6 Contest Presentation Students compete with parachute in set heats Winners presented with award

3 Parachute Context: On the 10th of June 2017, a meteor struck the earth with such force that is destroyed much of civilisation as we know it. The few survivors are stranded remote island, away from immediate but too far from life saving supplies. Your mission, should you choose to accept it... Is to create a working parachute design that will safely deliver necessary supplies to the survivors on these Islands. The Big Question is: What shape is most suited to safely land supplies t0 a remote settlement? At the end of the day you and your group will be expected to compete in a parachute drop competition where the slowest parachute will win.

7 T is for Technology E is for Engineering Now that you have your information from both the science and technology parts, you need to start constructing your design. By now you should 3 different shapes in order to construct your parachute. During the next 2 periods you will need to make and test your designs, Criteria: You need to make your 3 parachutes inflate effectively TEST > Record happened Modifications ( what can we do to make it inflate?)
