5 STUDENTS COUNCIL Topic What I ve done so far Next steps President Report Commuting Students I ve been collecting evidence over the last couple of weeks through QoTM on what activities commuter students get involved in and what barriers they face. The report will help shape next steps Analyze the findings of the QoTM. Work with College of Business, Law and Social Sciences on their C2C (commute 2 campus) campaign as a pilot scheme for all colleges to engage commuting students Masterplan EIC Social Spaces Student Centre and Square MFC Masterplan student communication week 7 th 11 th November. Q&A session with Chief Operating Officer 9 th November. Begin working on structured plan of student consultations. Partnership Agreement Student Mentoring Student Voice Formal document brought to both University Board and Students Union board. It was well received and signed early October. The agreement allows us to lay foundations for our working relationship with the University. A meeting was set up with University to review current mentoring at UCLan and to look at new services we can provide. One of the action points of the partnership agreement was to review student voice at UCLan. 5 Create a list of action points from the partnership agreement in line with the Union Plan to ensure it is not just a document that collects dust but a lever for change! I will be visiting/contacting other Unions and reviewing mentoring schemes to put forward proposals of best practice of SU mentoring to the next meeting. A project group has been set up with the university that I will be

No member shall speak more than once in the debate except for the proposer who will have one opportunity to respond to comments either immediately before the vote or in blocks at the Chair s discretion Phoebe Dearden - To amend Bye-law 8 section from "all items for discussion will be submitted via an online petition" to "all formal motions proposing the creation or amendment of Union Policy or Bye Laws" - To amend Bye-law 8 section 7.1 bullet point 3 from "items submitted by members for debate" to "formal motions submitted under 5.1.2" - To add to Bye-law 8 section 7.1 bullet point 4 the following text "items for discussion submitted to the Chair at least 15 minutes ahead of the meeting which the Chair considers are unable to be considered in an alternative forum and which do not create or amend policy or bye laws. Freeze the Fees Votes 59 (Likes 57, Dislikes 2) Tasmia Salim - To lobby the University to demonstrate a genuine commitment to the financial access of students rather than raising fees year on year. - To encourage the University to invest in its teaching and learning to ensure all students at UCLan receive an engaging, quality academic experience that allows them to succeed post-study. 8
9 - To mandate the Student Affairs Committee to campaign against the University raising tuition fees above 9000 year on year, for incoming students. - To mandate the Education Officer to campaign for a quality education for UCLan students at the current fee level and lobby the University to invest in teaching and learning at UCLan. Play Pulse in the Union Votes 72 (Likes 69, Dislikes 3) Hannah Mason - Pulse Radio to be played in all feasible areas of the Union - Look at the feasibility of streaming Pulse TV content on the Union s screens Keep Wednesday Afternoons Free Votes 77 (Likes 75, Dislikes 2) Ed Evans - To make sure the university stick to their policy regarding no lectures after 1pm on a Wednesday - Encourage students to use that free time to engage in more extra-curricular activities offered by the Student Union Extend Cafeteria Opening Hours to accommodate more Students Votes 109 (Likes 107, Dislikes 2) Suntosh Kaur - Extend the opening hours of the main cafeterias, such as Harrington, the Factory & Foster building cafeterias until at least 5pm, in order to cater for more students. - Investigate the possibility of all future cafeterias that are built having flexible opening times to suit student demand Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment Votes 64 (Likes 61, Dislikes 3) Renaye Roberts- Sinclair - Educate about the effects of sexual violence and harassment on campus through training sessions for various student groups - Continue to build upon the #SayNO campaign in order to empower people to challenge and report any type of harassment that they see or experience - For the Union to work with the University to change the culture of 9

Richard Crake and Samantha Edwards both stood as candidates. 23 votes, 1 spoilt, RC 12 votes, SE 10 votes. RC elected as Vice-Chair of Students Council for 16/17. Report from President Appointment of External Trustee Sana outlined her report and answered questions about the campus masterplan and mentoring scheme.
