OVERVIEW OF THE CONVAL 8 SERVICE RELEASES Starting from version CONVAL is compatible to Microsoft Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit). CHANGES IN BUILD MISCELLANEOUS Revised: Now all messages - including error messages - can be hidden in the print-out. Revised: Approximate calculation of the density of liquid air with the optional Thermodynamic module. Bug fix: With certain mixtures according to GERG 2004 the dew-point pressure and the vapour pressure were reversed. CONTROL VALVE Revised: Improved stability in the two-phase module. Bug fix: At the calculation of silencers with bores larger than 10 mm the bore spacing a was stated to small. Bug fix:. The flashing data at the calculation of liquid natural gas according to GERG 2004 is not always updated on changes of the inlet temperature. Bug fix: The sound pressure level of liquids according to IEC ( ) with valves with different inlet and outlet sizes and without input of the seat diameter was calculated inaccurate. Bug fix:. The input of the pipe wall thickness, needed for the sound prediction, was not checked. Bug fix:. Under certain conditions the information of the valve construction got lost when the input language changed. Bug fix: In the two-phase module an empty area was printed in some cases. Bug fix: The Cv 100 value of the valve Leusch LTR 43 Class 150 / PN 25, DN 150 is 998 GPM instead of 928 GPM. DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FLOW ELEMENT Revised: Improved stability. Revised: Improved online help for orifice plates without upstream pipe according to ISO/TR 15377:2007. SAFETY RELIEF VALVE New: Standard valves according to API 526 ( ) were added to the database. Bug fix: Using the French or Polish user interface, the values of the valve modifiers of generic valves weren t set correctly in all cases. Bug fix: The selected valve size was missing in the print-out of the two-phase module. DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FLOW ELEMENT Bug fix: With humid gases the input fields for the volume flow at standard conditions disappeared, if the calculated value was changed from qm to d and vice versa. SAFETY RELIEF VALVE Bug fix: At the calculation of the inlet pipe the permissible flow resistance coefficient was calculated too high. THERMODYNAMIC-MODULE Bug fix: In some cases old calculations could not be opened. Bug fix: The calculation of property data failed, if the steam quality was entered. Although percentage values were indicated for the input of the steam quality in the mask, the calculation required values between 0 and 1. COM-SERVER New: The COM-server has a new function for showing and hiding detailed values (+/- view). PROPERTY DATABASE Bug fix: The dynamic viscosity of sodium hydroxide solution with the concentrations 30%, 40% and 50% was too small around the factor

CHANGES IN BUILD MISCELLANEOUS Bug fix: In some cases, changes to user-defined fields were not saved when closing the calculation. CONTROL VALVE Bug fix: The name of the calculation and the associated characteristic not always matched. Bug fix: In rare cases, the pipe wall thickness was not consistent with the selected nominal pressure class of the pipeline. ACTUATOR FORCE Bug fix: In some cases a warning message was issued even though the pressures were in the acceptable range of the nominal pressure class. DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FLOW ELEMENT Bug fix: When opening calculations, which were created with CONVAL 5 or 6, the data of the material were lost in circumstances. RESTRICTION ORIFICE PLATE Revised: The calculation basis for the restriction orifice plates are now documented in the help system. PRESSURE LOSS Revised: Improved calculation for gases with a real gas factor other than 1. Bug fix: If the linear coefficient of thermal expansion was not calculated based on the material data but has been entered manually, the coefficient was not considered in the calculation. PRESSURE SURGE Revised: It was not always checked whether there are any missing input values. SAFETY RELIEF VALVE Revised: Improved stability. Possible side effects with several open calculations are resolved. Revised: Improved calculation of pressure drop in the discharge pipe for gases with a real gas factor other than 1. Revised: If the mass flow of flashing liquids is calculated without Omega, the mass flux G is marked as approximated Bug fix: An already existing DN value was not deleted, if a valve without size specification is selected from the database. Bug fix: The Size and pressure class (metric or ANSI) was not always correctly set when a valve from the database was selected. Bug fix: The pressure loss in the discharge pipe was calculated incorrectly for gases, if the nominal size of the discharge pipe was chosen too small

THERMODYNAMIC MODULE Bug fix: After the chart was drawn, an access violation occurred under certain conditions. The program continued to function. CONTROL VALVE DATABASE Revised: The series of manufacturer Metso - Neles were extended and updated. SAFETY RELIEF VALVE DATABASE Revised: The tool for maintaining the safety relief valve database has been revised: Relief valves without size specification can be gathered. Bug fix: A warning with outlet velocities above 3 m/s is only given with possible cavitation damage and not generally at choked flow conditions. Bug fix: In the characteristic form of the two-phase control valve module resistance structures could be selected, although these cannot be computed for two-phase media. Bug fix: The IEC export template was modified, the Cv 100 value was not handed over. Bug fix: The pressure class of the valve could not be changed with valves from the data base. Bug fix: The notification, whether a valve from the data base has curves, did not work always correctly. Bug fix: Sometimes an error occurred at the computation of the sound curve in the characteristics, so that the sound pressure of the operating points stood out against the remaining curve. ACTUATOR FORCES Revised: New default values for the factor of the seat tightness

DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FLOW ELEMENTS Revised: It was not obvious that the required outlet section of Venturi tubes is a multiple of the throttle opening instead of the pipe inside diameter. RESTRICTION ORIFICE PLATES Revised: Improved calculation of incipient cavitation for liquids at high pressures. Bug fix: In some cases the choked flow notification was missing, although the critical differential pressure p c was calculated correctly. SAFETY RELIEF VALVES Revised: Improved computation of the outlet conditions and of the discharge pipes for gases and steams. Revised: For valves with compressible media without discharge pipes it is considered, that due to high flow rates with Mach numbers higher than 1 at the valve outlet, the pressure at the valve outlet becomes higher than the ambient pressure. Bug fix: Improved stability with computations of compressible media with very high pressure and several discharge pipes. Bug fix: The rated coefficient of discharge for two-phase flow could not always be corrected manually. TANK DEPRESSURIZATION Revised: Improved performance. Revised: Improved time forecast and simulation of calculations with large remaining pressure difference. Revised: The input of the Cv value apart from the Cv 100 value is not required any longer. MATERIAL DATA CALCULATION Bug fix: The parameter t max had the incorrect caption minimum operating temperature instead of maximum operating temperature. COM-SERVER New: A new interface IConcentration for access to substance compositions is available (further information in COM server documentation). New: A new interface ICVCharacteristics for better control over the characteristics graphics is available. Features include reading parameters (ruler values) in dependence on stroke or flow (further information in COM server documentation)

CHANGES IN BUILD USER INTERFACE Bug fix: At the export to MS Excel and other formats the values of the parameters were not written in the current unit but always in the SI unit. Bug fix: Various issues with the language change-over were addressed. Bug fix: The function save under the name of the identifier did not consider points in file names correctly. Bug fix: User-defined data were not aligned as the regular calculation parameters in the print-out. Bug fix: The character font of the parameters shorthand symbols could not be changed in the print-out. Bug fix: In order to ensure the compatibility of old COM server applications with CONVAL 8, the sequence of the entries of the parameter PipeClass was changed. Bug fix: With plastic piping the speed of sound of the material was computed partially wrong. Bug fix: Data could be lost at the import of CONVAL 7 flow resistances into the new data format. CONTROL VALVES Bug fix: Improved program stability. Bug fix: Using Silencers with holes larger than 10mm the number of holes was not computed correctly. Bug fix: After a language change-over the sound pressure level according VDMA ( ) of a gas was indicated too low for valves with perforated plugs. Only after renewed change of input parameters the volume was computed correctly. Bug fix: Issues after a unit change-over were addressed, like for example incorrect displaying K v and/or C v in the computation mask. Bug fix: During two-phase flow with small flow rates corrections for non-turbulent flow were not accomplished. Revised: The determination of the optimal Cv 100 value with two or more given operating points was improved Revised: The flow direction of the valve was added to the table of the controllability parameters. Revised: The data of the manufacturer Fisher were supplemented by the series 461, EWD FTC, EWND/EWNT FTC, EMS FTO and Baumann Revised: The control valve data base was extended by the series 4040, 7020, and 8020/21 by Schubert & Salzer. Revised: The computation of the necessary actuator forces of globe valves was revised. DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FLOW ELEMENTS Revised: The products of Systec in the pitot tube data base were updated. RESTRICTION ORIFICE PLATES Revised: The accuracy of the computation of liquids at choked flow conditions was improved. The simplified equation for the critical differential pressure p c, used so far, is sufficiently exact only if the vapour pressure p v is substantially smaller p c

THERMODYNAMICS MODULE Bug fix: The diagram of the phase equilibrium for mixtures according GERG 2004 was not available. SAFETY RELIEF VALVES Revised: Standard and medium-dependant default values for the rated coefficient of discharge K d are now indicated and marked as looked up. The field remained empty so far. Revised: The estimation of the rated coefficient of discharge K d,z for two-phase flow based on the gas volume portion of the two-phase system was revised. The value is now rewritable

IMPORVEMENTS AND NEW FUNCTION IN CONVAL 8 GENERAL, NON-MODULE-SPECIFIC IMPROVEMENTS IN CONVAL 8 INTERFACE The Export of calculation was improved and simplified. With gases at standard conditions besides molar mass, standard density and specific gas constant the specific gravity can be given. In the substance selection dialog the aliases of the selected fluid can be shown. New pressure unit kgf/cm² and for liquid density specific weight. Graphics exports as wmf, bmp, jpg and pdf files. An auto-save function allows recovering calculations after an abnormal program termination of CONVAL. The performance of the dependency graphs was optimized for multi-processor systems and multi kernel processors. In the dependency graphs a history list and incremental parameter search was introduced. When changing the pipe class from metric to ANSI and vice versa the nominal size and pressure class was converted. SUBSTANCES Improved density calculation of liquids from the substance database. The calculation of mixtures according to new GERG2004 XT08 in the liquid phase, in the gaseous phase, or for two-phase systems. Apart from an improved computing speed and stability the GERG2004 was expanded with further components.
